Chapter 316 I Don't Want to Wake Up

Sarah was always nuzzled into Jacob's neck, her hot tears soaking his shirt. But Jacob got it; instead of pulling away, he just held her head tight. "Mom!"

"Jacob." Sarah hurried into the house, clutching Jacob.

Oliver stood there, feeling a bit miffed, probably 'cause Sarah hadn't even glanced his way. He figured, in her heart, it was just Jacob and her jerk of a brother.

When Oliver got into the car, he was kinda ticked off. Inside the villa, Sarah listened to the car drive away, feeling a bit lost.

Olivia suddenly noticed Sarah's tear-streaked face and was shocked!

Olivia gasped, "What happened, Mrs. Windsor? Did Mr. Windsor hurt you in Vesper City?"

Sarah gently shook her head. How could she tell Olivia she had liver cancer and less than a year to live? She just whispered, "No! He didn't."

She also mentioned she had remarried Oliver, which floored Olivia. It took her a minute to process before she finally said, "Mrs. Windsor, you must be mistaken! Living together is one thing; Mr. Windsor can leave when he wants. But now that you're married, how will you leave in the future?"

Olivia was really upset; she even wiped away tears.

Sarah gave a bitter smile, "Olivia, do you also think marrying him is a big mistake? But why are there so many women out there who want to marry him?"

Olivia quickly replied, "That's because they don't love Mr. Windsor; they just want money or sex! Mrs. Windsor, you're different. You once..."

Olivia choked up, almost unable to speak. But she forced herself to say, "Mrs. Windsor, you were once treated well, but it turned out to be fake. How could that not make you sad?"

Sarah's pale face showed a faint smile as she thought about Olivia's words. She once thought her feelings for Oliver were real, but in fact, they were all fake. To her, only Jacob, her son, was real.

Sarah slowly pressed her face tightly against Jacob's, filled with love.

She looked at Olivia, her voice tight, "Now that I'm back, I have some things to ask you to help with. I hope you won't refuse."

Olivia felt a sense of unease. After all, she had been serving Sarah all along. Sarah had suffered so much, and if she hadn't been hit hard, she would never have said such discouraging words. But Olivia couldn't get anything out of Sarah's mouth.

In the end, Olivia could only say, "If you need anything, Mrs. Windsor, just tell me! Don't say 'ask for help'; we are not that distant."

Sarah tearfully agreed. She knew her body was deteriorating, and she wanted to get everything done while she still could.

She entrusted Jacob to Olivia's care and went upstairs to change her clothes.

This outfit was bought for her by Dylan when she was 20. It was a light pink gauze dress with a pure white wool coat. Dylan said that young girls looked best in white.

Four years had passed, and this outfit had followed her to Vesper City, to Dawnstar, and now it was back again.

When Sarah put it on again, it didn't quite fit. In the mirror, she was no longer youthful, and her eyes no longer held innocence, only a faint weariness and a sickness that makeup couldn't hide. But she still wore it; she wanted Dylan to see it one more time.

Dylan's law firm.

Even though Dylan got his license back, the recent scandal had trashed his rep in the industry. The once-busy office was now a ghost town.

Dylan sat at his desk, the same old blinds behind him. He looked blank, lightly tapping a cigar in his hand.

His secretary brought Sarah in and gave a symbolic knock on the door, "Dylan, Ms. Miller is here."

Dylan looked up and saw Sarah standing there, wearing her old clothes, her hair draped over her shoulders like before.

Sarah's voice shook as she called out, "Dylan."

They hugged each other tight.

The last time at the detention center, they couldn't really talk, which was a bummer. Now, no one was interrupting their reunion. They had been each other's rock since they were kids.

Sarah's face was buried in Dylan's chest, her voice trembling with sobs, "Dylan, why didn't you tell me before? Why didn't you tell me?"

If he had told her, maybe Dylan wouldn't have felt so regretful. He liked Grace so much!

Sarah thought, Dylan must be in a lot of pain now. The thrill of revenge couldn't make up for a lifetime of loneliness.

She didn't care about family grudges or how her dad died; he was a jerk anyway. She just wanted Dylan to be happy and always be with her. She cried uncontrollably in Dylan's arms.

Dylan gently stroked her hair and said, "Sarah, we can't go back to the past. If we could, Grace wouldn't have so many regrets, you wouldn't have suffered so much, and I might have been able to stay by her side as her friend. Even if I couldn't be her lover, I would still hold a place in her heart. Her kids would greet me warmly whenever they saw me."

Sarah looked up, her eyes blurred with tears, "Dylan, you can still start over now."

She pulled a plane ticket out of her handbag; it was for Dylan.

Dylan was stunned.

Sarah gathered her strength and gave Dylan a smile, "Dylan, go abroad. Go to Swiizarland! It's great there, and you love skiing, don't you?"

Dylan frowned and called her, "Sarah!"

Sarah's lips trembled, "He really has evidence against you! Dylan, he's a madman. I don't know when he'll snap again. When that happens, neither of us will be safe."

She took out a copy, "The original is in his safe."

Dylan looked at it and was shocked. He didn't want to leave; he didn't want Sarah to sacrifice for him. But Sarah gently pushed his hand away, took two steps back, tears in her eyes, and said, "Dylan, I can't leave!"

She was sick and couldn't leave. She didn't want to leave either. But she told Dylan, "I love him! I love him deeply! We have a son together! His name is Jacob; you haven't met him yet. You should meet him, but maybe next time. Dylan, you go abroad first! When Jacob grows up, you'll meet him eventually."

Dylan felt something was off. Sarah kept backing up until she was pressed against the door. With tears streaming down her face, she said to Dylan, "Dylan, just act like you don't have a sister like me. This is my life. I have no dreams, no ambitions. I know he has other women, but I don't care how many. I love him, and I can't leave him!" Her voice softened, "He treats me very well. Yes, very well!"

Dylan could hardly believe it. He said softly, "Sarah, wake up! He's no longer the Oliver he used to be!"

Sarah shook her head bitterly, "Dylan, I don't want to wake up."
