Chapter 345 She Is at High Risk of Permanent Blindness

Lester took Nicole into his arms, holding her close with their faces pressed together. "Has he been here?"

Alyssa was taken aback. After a long pause, she asked, "Lester, you know? Did she tell you?"

Lester shook his head. "I figured it out six months after we got married."

Tears streamed down Alyssa's face as she grabbed Lester's arm. "Lester, I didn't mean to deceive you! At first, it was Mr. Windsor's idea, but after we got married, my feelings for you were real."

"I know." Lester's voice was gentle as he nuzzled closer to Nicole.

Alyssa smiled through her tears. She knew Lester had feelings for her too.

Lester soothed Nicole until she fell asleep. He made a nourishing soup for Alyssa and fed it to her himself.

Alyssa felt happy. She thought Lester wouldn't do anything foolish. Their family was actually quite happy.

Lester watched over Alyssa and Nicole. After Alyssa fell asleep, he gently touched her hair. He knew that living a life of compromise might allow him to stay with Alyssa forever, but he was a man who had once had his hand broken by Oliver and had his marriage arranged by him.

As long as he was around, Sarah would never have peace, and Alyssa would always be under Oliver's control.

He had seen the surveillance footage. He saw Alyssa kneeling before Oliver, begging him to let Lester go.

She was so foolish. He wasn't worth her doing that.

Oliver returned to the ward and forced Sarah to eat.

Sarah drank half a bowl of soup.

Next door, Jacob started crying again. He had been crying day and night for the past two days, his voice hoarse, constantly calling for Sarah.

Sarah's heart ached. But she didn't say anything to Oliver. She didn't want to share anything with him now; she saw him as a familiar stranger.

Oliver watched her quietly. After a while, he said, "You don't care about Jacob anymore?"

Sarah remained silent.

Oliver looked away, put down the bowl, and walked to the next room.

In the next room, Olivia was holding Jacob, at a loss for what to do.

She tried to soothe him, "Jacob, do you want to go out and play? Be good, when your mommy gets better, I'll take you downstairs to play every day."

The door opened, and Oliver walked in.

Seeing him, Olivia quickly handed Jacob to him and said, "Jacob probably misses Mrs. Windsor! Mr. Windsor, why don't you let him see her?"

Oliver held Jacob.

Jacob recognized him and clung to his shoulder, repeatedly calling, "Mommy, Mommy."

Olivia added, "Jacob is so lonely! Other kids his age have their parents with them every day, but he only has these white walls to look at. Mr. Windsor, why not send Jacob to Ms. Windsor's place for a while? They have two kids there, and Jacob would have playmates and be much happier."

Oliver looked at Olivia and said, "You think Jacob is lonely too?"

Olivia nodded earnestly.

Oliver gently patted Jacob's head and smiled faintly, "When Sarah gets better, we'll have another child, or we can adopt one. We could get one around Jacob's age so they can play together and go to school together."

Olivia was stunned. She hadn't expected Oliver to respond like that. Even if Sarah got better, she wouldn't want to have another child, let alone adopt one.

Olivia said, "Who would be so heartless to give their child away nowadays?"

Oliver sat on the couch, gently playing with Jacob, who smiled for the first time in a long while. Oliver looked up at Olivia, his tone calm but with a hint of mockery. "Mrs. Windsor is that heartless; she wants to give Jacob away."

Olivia was speechless, not daring to say more.

From Oliver's words, she could tell he was really unhappy with Sarah's decision to give Jacob away. He was only holding back because Sarah was sick.

Olivia felt a chill in her heart, worried about Sarah's future.

Despite Oliver's domineering ways, Sarah's health was gradually improving under Dr. Scott's treatment. The cancer cells had stopped spreading, and all her indicators were getting better.

Sarah's spirits were lifting day by day.

As Sarah's health improved, Oliver started bringing Jacob to spend time with her. Sometimes, Jacob would fall asleep next to Sarah, and with her care, he grew chubby and healthy.

Olivia was overjoyed.

When Oliver wasn't around, Olivia sat by the hospital bed, comforting Sarah, "Your health has improved a lot. For Jacob's sake, you must live well! Mrs. Windsor, there's no 'what if' in life, and no one comes back after death."

Sarah leaned against the headboard.

Jacob was playing with a small dinosaur egg, smiling adorably with his little white teeth showing.

Olivia wiped her tears. "With your health improving, Mr. Windsor will surely restrain himself. By the way, I heard from Zoey that Mr. Windsor has found a pair of corneas for you. The donor is in Celestia and will come over before your surgery. Mrs. Windsor, you'll be able to see soon."

Sarah responded softly. Her life and death had never been in her own hands.

She reached out to touch Jacob, thinking that when she could see again, she would hold him tightly.

A week later, a nurse brought a report.

Oliver took it, sat on the couch, and reviewed Sarah's health indicators.

Zoey smiled, "Mrs. Windsor can have her surgery next week! When the corneas arrive, we can do the eye surgery too. Everything will be perfect!"

She marveled at the power of money.

Oliver was in a good mood. He read the report several times before finally telling Sarah, "Rest well these days and build up your strength. It will help with the surgery."

Sarah's expression remained indifferent.

At that moment, the door to the hospital room opened, and Stephen walked in.

Oliver was surprised to see him.

He stood up and spoke to Stephen in Fronce's language, "Is there a problem with my wife's health?"

Stephen glanced at Sarah on the bed. Then he replied, "The timing for the patient in Celestia matches Mrs. Windsor's perfectly, and he's willing to donate his corneas. Everything is perfect! But Mr. Windsor, your other patient has had a sudden heart attack and urgently needs a heart. Oliver, you have a difficult choice to make: Mrs. Windsor or Ms. Johnson? Mr. Windsor, I know you value family the most. I think you'll choose Mrs. Windsor."

Oliver frowned. At that moment, a call came in from a hospital in Windcrest, informing him of Ellie's condition, "Ms. Johnson can't wait any longer. She needs a heart transplant within a week, or she will die."

Oliver's Adam's apple bobbed as he looked at Sarah on the bed. He made his decision in about 30 seconds and continued in Fronce's language to Stephen, "Send that patient to the hospital in Windcrest first!"

Ellie couldn't wait, but Sarah's corneas could.

Stephen was puzzled. "Mr. Windsor, you're crazy! Mrs. Windsor can't wait either; she could go permanently blind."

Oliver clenched his fist and, after a long pause, said softly, "That's the decision! And don't tell my wife."

He thought Sarah didn't understand Fronce's language.

Sarah wouldn't know about Ellie, nor would she know that the corneas wouldn't be coming. But he would find another match for her.

He was sure he could find one.
