Chapter 711 Avery: Have You Missed Me These Days? 2
The lavish private room had only a few people in it.
Avery was one of them.
Serafina was bustling around, with Jacob, ever the doting husband, hovering nearby to help, worried she might overexert herself.
The three men who had arrived earlier were playing cards. Just as Isadora walked in, one of them looked up and casually said, "Hey, Isadora, perfect timing! Join us."
Avery spread out his cards, and the man quickly corrected himself, "Ms. Penrose."
Another man nudged him and winked at Avery, "You should call her Mrs. Montague."
Avery, maintaining her composure, let out a light scoff, "Boring."
At that moment, Jacob came over with a mug. As he handed it to Isadora, he chuckled, "Don't talk nonsense, Isadora has a boyfriend! A 26-year-old."
Isadora knew he was teasing and didn't deny it.
She took the mug and thanked him.
Avery looked up at Jacob, her eyes unreadable. Jacob patted her shoulder lightly. "You guys have fun."
Avery's gaze shifted to Isadora, and she gestured for her to sit down.
Isadora merely smiled, accepted the invitation, and joined the card game. Years in business had taught her how to play her hand well, and she and her partner moved in quiet harmony — much to Avery's irritation.
Isadora's partner smiled. "Avery, we're here to celebrate Jacob's birthday tonight. Cheer up. Look at you, all jealous. If Isadora's young boyfriend shows up to pick her up, you'll go crazy with jealousy."
Avery's voice was unusually calm, "I'm just afraid he won't show."
Isadora frowned. "Avery, my business is none of your concern."
"Is it?" Avery's gaze lifted to hers, his tone casual, but there was something in his eyes she couldn't quite name.
Isadora didn't want to continue this conversation. She was starting to regret coming. Avery was a madman.
Clearly, Avery sensed her thoughts and didn't push further, focusing on the game instead.
As more guests arrived, someone sat next to Isadora to watch, naturally pushing her and Avery closer together. Their arms and even their hips were pressed against each other. For adults, such contact was highly provocative, especially for Avery, who had been abstinent for a long time.
Suddenly, he glanced down at Isadora.
While the cards were being shuffled, Isadora's hand was enveloped by a warm palm. She was startled but didn't show it, knowing it was Avery.
He was shameless and bold.
Avery initially intended to release her hand quickly, but after feeling her soft palm, he didn't want to let go. His fingertips gently brushed the tender skin between her thumb and forefinger, a touch so subtle it was both electrifying and intimate.
Isadora couldn't help but look up, her gaze meeting Avery's for just a second.
Something unspoken caught fire.
Then, he released her hand and continued playing cards as if nothing had happened.
Isadora's team kept losing after that, and someone laughed, "Avery's distracting her with that charm of his!"
When the game ended, Jacob was slicing cake while the rest drank and played truth or dare.
Slouched in the leather chair, Avery watched Isadora leave, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "Charm? Please. Against a twenty-six-year-old, I don't stand a chance — she'd pick the younger guy any day.
Isadora turned at the door. "Glad you know."
Jacob came over, placing a bottle of red wine in front of Avery, and chuckled, "Avery, you're slipping!"
Avery stretched out his long legs, resting an elbow behind his head, and smiled. "Don't worry, Jacob. I remember the favor you and your wife did for me."
He then stood up and headed towards the restroom, following Isadora.
In the restroom, Isadora was washing her hands.
When she heard footsteps behind her, she instinctively looked up and saw Avery in the mirror. He didn't come in directly but leaned against the wooden door, pulling out a pack of cigarettes and lighting one slowly.
There was still a hint of desire in his eyes.
Their gazes locked in the mirror for a long time.
Finally, Avery spoke first, "How have you been? Miss me, or too busy romancing your 26-year-old?"
