Chapter 296 They Got Divorced And She's Free
Sarah had no clue what Oliver was getting at, but she was desperate for freedom. Now that he was finally ready to let her go, she didn't dare ask too many questions and risk blowing her chance. She was terrified he'd change his mind.
Her slender fingers clutched the pen as she signed her name. Right after, she felt a wave of dizziness and her ears started ringing.
Sarah figured Oliver must be seeing someone else now and that he'd eventually get married. When that happened, Jacob would be a hassle for him, and maybe then he'd give Jacob back to her.
Oliver didn't say another word. He picked up the agreement, gave it a careful once-over, and then signed his name without a second thought.
He had seriously considered getting a divorce.
As Oliver got up to leave, he glanced at Sarah on the bed, and his heart wavered a bit.
He had married Sarah for revenge. But they had their good times too. In the early days of their marriage, he possessed and loved her every night. She was scared but did her best to please him. That feeling was something no other woman could give him.
A hint of tenderness flashed in Oliver's eyes. He seemed to hesitate for a moment but finally gently patted her head, just like he would with Jacob. She was simple and fragile, but not the same as Jacob.
Late at night, Oliver went downstairs to leave.
In the first-floor hall, Olivia looked anxious. Seeing him come down, she immediately approached and asked, "Mr. Windsor, what arrangements have you made for Mrs. Windsor?"
Oliver guessed Olivia's thoughts. He looked down at the agreement and then said lightly, "Everything stays the same."
Olivia was stunned. She truly cared for Sarah and pleaded for her, with a hint of sincere begging in her voice, "Why not let Mrs. Windsor go? Doesn't she have a brother? I think he would take care of her."
Mentioning Dylan made Oliver's eyes turn cold. He insisted, "I said everything stays the same!"
After speaking, Oliver walked out of the villa. A car was already parked in the driveway, and the driver was waiting by the car.
As he got into the car, he glanced back at the villa. It was brightly lit, shining in the darkness.
Oliver thought, Sarah must be crying, like a kid who lost her favorite toy, like a child abandoned by her parents. To her, he was like a guardian, but he still left her.
The driver didn't dare to start the car. In the back seat, Oliver leaned against the leather seat and said in a not-so-good mood, "Drive!"
The driver nodded, lightly pressed the gas pedal, and the shiny black car slowly started, leaving the villa in the early morning.
Upstairs, Sarah finally came to her senses. They were divorced! She was free!
Sarah ran barefoot to the walk-in closet, found a warm cotton outfit to wear, and took only her passport before running downstairs.
She would find a place to stay for the night and return to Evergreen City in the morning.
On the first floor, Olivia couldn't stop her and watched her run out, wanting to say something but holding back.
At the door, six bodyguards in black stood expressionless and told her, "Mr. Windsor has ordered that you are not allowed to leave and your life will be the same as before."
Sarah was stunned. It took her a long time to realize that Oliver had no intention of letting her go. What did he mean by Jacob belonging to "us"?
He meant that they were divorced, Jacob belonged to him, and she also belonged to him. She was not free!
Sarah was still trapped in this cage, with no family and no contact, like a madwoman waiting here to grow old and die. If he was in a good mood, he would bring Jacob to see her.
The deal was, she had to play nice and not lose it; otherwise, no Jacob.
On Christmas Eve, it snowed, and tomorrow was Christmas.
But that night, Sarah's dreams were crushed. She stood in the wind and snow, snowflakes landing on her hair, lit up by the streetlights, glowing white and bright.
Her face was pale, and she finally got it—divorced or not, he was going to keep her locked up forever.
As soon as Oliver landed, he turned on his phone and saw a bunch of missed calls, all from the bodyguards.
Oliver called back, "What's up?"
The bodyguard stammered and explained the situation.
In the cramped car, Oliver's face grew darker. He thought for a moment and said lightly, "Don't let her get lost."
A few simple words showed how much Sarah mattered. The bodyguard replied, "Yes, sir."
Oliver hung up and rubbed his temples. Traveling back and forth in one day and having intense sex had left him pretty wiped out.
The driver in the front seat turned around and asked softly, "Mr. Windsor, are we heading back to the villa or to Ms. Johnson's place?"
Oliver answered without hesitation, "Back to the villa."
At the Windsor Group building, top-floor CEO's office, Oliver leaned back on the sofa with his eyes half-closed, resting. He had just finished a two-hour important meeting and was physically and mentally drained.
Ellie was behind him, massaging his temples.
She asked gently, "Mr. Windsor, is this pressure okay?"
Oliver grabbed her hand and pulled her close. It had been a while since they'd been intimate, and with the stress from work, he was looking to blow off some steam.
But as he kissed her red lips, he felt nothing.
Oliver let go of her, lit a cigarette, and looked at Ellie through the pale blue smoke. She was beautiful. Dressed in a white Chanel suit, she looked elegant and smart. Moreover, she was considerate and gentle, but he just wasn't into it.
Instead, Oliver thought of that night at Dawnstar when he had Sarah under him, her silk nightgown rolled up to her thighs, revealing a tender leg. He couldn't control himself and didn't even take off his clothes before he thrust into her.
If Sarah hadn't cried so much, it would have been very enjoyable.
Thinking of that, Oliver's fleeting interest in Ellie vanished. He lightly patted her waist, signaling her to get off his lap.
Ellie was unwilling. The atmosphere was perfect, but Oliver wasn't aroused.
She couldn't believe he didn't want her and that Sarah could satisfy him. She had heard that Sarah was mentally unstable and that they were getting divorced.
Ellie boldly moved closer to Oliver, wanting to continue.
The office door opened, and Zoey walked in with a phone. She saw the intimate scene but didn't leave. Instead, she respectfully said, "Mr. Windsor, a call from Ms. Windsor."
Ellie was a bit displeased but didn't dare to show it. She knew that in Oliver's heart, Grace came first. Everything else had to be put aside for Grace, and she was no exception.
Ellie also knew that Oliver didn't love her.
She had stayed by his side for so long mainly because she was sensible and gentle. When he was with her, he often seemed distracted, even during intimate moments.
Ellie couldn't guess what he was thinking.
Sure enough, Oliver dismissed her immediately and took Grace's call.
He talked to Grace for about two minutes before hanging up. Seeing Zoey still there, he asked, "Any news from Dawnstar?"
