Chapter 348 Lester and His Wife Have Both Passed Away
Alyssa, clutching her baby, dashed downstairs, tears streaming down her face as she screamed for Lester.
"Lester! No, it can't be you! Please, not you."
Everyone around stared at Alyssa, this beautiful woman on the brink of a breakdown. One of her shoes was missing, and the baby in her arms was wailing uncontrollably.
In the atrium on the first floor, right in the middle of the flower bed.
A tall figure lay sprawled out, limbs splayed on the concrete platform, surrounded by blood. His eyes were gone, and his lifeless gaze stared up at the brightening sky.
Dawn had come, but Lester would never wake up.
"Lester." Alyssa's voice cut through the crowd.
She pushed through the onlookers and approached Lester.
She stared at him, recognizing him instantly. Lester always wore that white shirt with the slightly worn wide-shouldered suit. He used to say men didn't need to fuss over their looks, and any extra money should go to his wife and daughter so they could look beautiful.
"Lester!" Alyssa dropped to her knees in front of him. She reached out with a trembling hand to touch his face, her tears falling onto his lifeless skin.
Alyssa forced a pained smile and whispered, "Why were you so foolish? Why did you do this? Lester, now that you're gone, what will Nicole and I do?"
"Lester, do you hate me for taking his money, for deceiving you, for marrying you? Why couldn't you just accept it? Living in a white lie isn't so bad, Lester. Lots of people live their whole lives in white lies and end up believing them."
Alyssa knelt there, repenting.
But Lester couldn't hear her anymore.
In his shirt pocket, there was a blood-stained suicide note addressed to her.
[Alyssa, please forgive me. I know after my death, you'll blame me for not compromising. Alyssa, I get it all, but I just don't know how to live anymore. The bank cards and cash at home are in the safe, and the password is your birthday. This money is enough for you to raise Nicole. I've already made arrangements for my parents. Alyssa, find a good guy and remarry!]
Alyssa knelt there, reading the few words Lester had left for her.
She murmured, "Lester, you planned everything, but you chose this end for yourself. You still blame me, blame me for deceiving you, blame me for not truly loving you."
Alyssa picked up Nicole, kissed her soft cheek, and then set her down. Nicole seemed to sense something was wrong and started crying.
Alyssa slowly stood up, her legs shaking beneath her skirt.
She looked at Lester one last time, tears streaming down her face.
She whispered softly, "Lester, I'm coming!" And with that, she suddenly crashed into a nearby stone pillar.
Bright red blood trickled down from her forehead. Her gaze became unfocused, and her body slowly fell, but she managed to stagger a few steps forward. She walked to Lester's side, and as she collapsed, her blood-stained fingers gently held Lester's hand. "Lester, we're together forever."
All around, there was silence.
When Olivia arrived, there were murmurs all around.
Olivia had a bad feeling. She pushed through the crowd and approached. When she saw Lester and Alyssa lying together in a pool of blood, she couldn't hold back and fell to her knees.
She stared at the young couple, repeatedly saying, "It's Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell."
Nicole waved her little hands, crying loudly.
Olivia gently picked up Nicole, tears streaming down her old face. "I recognize this necklace. This is Mr. Mitchell's daughter!"
Olivia, overwhelmed with grief, held Nicole and said in a trembling voice, "Good child, take a good look at them. From now on, you will never see them again."
All around, the onlookers were talking.
"So tragic! There are still people who die for love these days."
"Hope someone adopts the child."
Sarah arrived, carefully supported by Zoey. Her eyes were covered with bandages.
She groped her way forward, and the crowd quickly made way for her. Sarah listened intently, "Zoey, I hear a child crying. Is it Mrs. Mitchell's child?"
Zoey saw the tragic scene of Lester and Alyssa.
The area was starting to be cordoned off.
Zoey, with tears in her eyes, softly said, "Yes. Olivia is holding and taking care of her now. Don't worry, Mrs. Windsor."
Sarah paused, then immediately asked, "Olivia is taking care of the child, but what about Mrs. Mitchell? And Lester? Has Lester been found?"
Olivia, holding Nicole, walked over to Sarah. She let Sarah feel the warm hand of the baby, tears streaming down her face. "Mrs. Windsor, both Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell have passed away! They only left behind this poor child."
Sarah was silent for a long time. 'Lester and his wife are both gone.'
Her hands began to search, her voice sounding calm but extremely tense. She asked, "Where are they? I want to see them! Olivia, Zoey, tell me, where are they?"
