Chapter 133 Henry No Longer Pampered Her
When Henry was all dressed up, Grace was still sitting on the sink, shivering.
She knew Henry's temper and that he wouldn't let her off easy, but she didn't regret admitting it. She couldn't afford to. Back then, Henry had pushed her to the edge, and she couldn't lie.
Henry looked dignified and noble compared to Grace's messy state. He leaned against the wall, holding a cigarette between his fingers. Thin smoke blurred their eyes.
Henry's voice was hoarse. "When did it start?"
Grace's nightgown was a mess, and she tried to cover herself with her arms, but it didn't help. Her face was pale.
She stared at Henry for a long time before speaking slowly, "It started when Juniper got hit by a car. I thought about being with him then. But even when Juniper woke up, we couldn't be together. You know why, Henry. You wanted to know, so here it is: I had feelings for him. I thought we could be together forever. If this is what you wanted to know, I've told you everything. If you can't accept it, you can reconsider our marriage."
Henry's eyes were deep. After a while, he flicked the ash from his cigarette and softly asked, "Are you talking about divorce?"
He looked up at her, remembering the day he took her to the church, holding her fingertips at the altar. His heart trembled with excitement, and he believed in their vows: Henry and Grace would never part.
He thought their marriage could start anew, but Grace admitted she had feelings for someone else.
Henry smiled slightly. "I won't divorce."
Not even in death.
From that day on, Henry stopped pampering her. They were cold to each other, and he almost never touched her. He spent his nights in the study, relying on a melody to fall asleep. In the morning, when he returned to the master bedroom to change clothes, he rarely spoke to her.
Henry started dating. Occasionally, at parties, he was photographed with beautiful actresses, but more often with Esme.
The Montague Group and the Rodriguez Group had a project together, and Esme began to appear frequently by Henry's side. Because it was for business, it seemed ambiguous, but others didn't say much. They were afraid of Henry's power, so they didn't dare report it. But some newspapers were bold.
The headline read: [The Montague Group President's Marriage Crisis: Night Out with Socialite]
It was accompanied by an ambiguous photo.
In the club's long corridor, Esme leaned against the wall in a long strap dress. Henry gently touched her face, looking at her with desire. Every time Henry wanted to make love, he had that look.
Grace watched quietly for a long time. When she put down the newspaper, it started raining outside, raindrops hitting the window.
There was a knock at the door. "Mrs. Montague, what should we prepare for dinner?"
Henry was in Crystal City, Grace thought, he probably wouldn't come back for a while. She replied softly, "Just make some pasta."
The servant paused and said, "Mr. Montague, you're back."
Grace was a bit taken aback. She walked to the window and saw a black Rolls-Royce Phantom parked outside.
Celeste got out, carrying luggage. Behind her, Henry walked in.
He looked serious and proper in his suit, showing no signs of last night's antics. He picked up the newspaper and asked casually, "Did you see it?"
Grace stayed silent.
Henry put down the newspaper and smirked. "Of course! Why would you care?" He headed for the door.
Grace spoke softly, "Henry, what do you want?"
Henry turned around slowly, his face expressionless, his voice cold. "Mrs. Montague, what do you think I want?"
Grace stayed calm. "Henry, if you really like her, you can end our marriage and give her a legitimate status. What is this now? Giving her hope and then crushing it, don't you think that's cruel?"
Henry sneered. "How noble of you, Mrs. Montague! When did you become so loving? Learned it from Lucas?"
Grace shot back, "You don't have to be so sarcastic! I had feelings for Lucas, but I never betrayed you during our marriage!"
Henry walked back to her, gently touched her face, and said, "Mrs. Montague, you controlled your body, but did you control your heart? Who among us is more innocent?"
After he left, Grace stood alone for a long time.
She knew Henry was forcing her, forcing her to love him, to bow to him, to promise never to think about Lucas again. She wasn't deeply in love, just had feelings, but even that Henry wouldn't allow. He was always domineering and strong.
He didn't know how to love, but he demanded her love!
Their relationship continued to cool.
The entire upper class of Evergreen City probably knew they were just polite to each other, knew Esme was chasing him, and knew the Montague family and the Rodriguez family had a big project together.
On Thursday evening, he came home early for a change.
During dinner, Henry suddenly said, "We're having an outdoor party at home on Sunday. Prepare for about 50 people, mostly company and partner company employees. Get the list from Celeste."
Grace responded with a hum.
Henry put down his knife and fork, looked at her, and continued, "Esme will be coming too. She's on a diet and doesn't like sweets. Make sure the desserts are sugar-free."
Grace smiled slightly. "I'll tell the staff."
Henry kept looking at her.
Grace lowered her head, cutting her steak, and asked with a smile, "Is there anything else she avoids? You can tell me all at once. We can't neglect your distinguished guest, Henry!"
Henry frowned, clearly irritated.
After a while, he wiped his lips with a napkin and stood up. "Mira, next time remember to cook the steak well done!"
Mira, who had heard their conversation and his rumors, replied with a dark face, "I thought Mr. Montague liked it tender!"
Henry looked at Grace.
Grace turned slightly and gently said to Mira, "Next time, cook Mr. Montague's steak well done, remember that."
Mira reluctantly agreed.
As Henry went upstairs, he thought to himself, 'The servants at home are all spoiled by Grace! She is good to everyone, why can't she be good to me? Why can't she just bow her head?'
