Chapter 142 Henry, What Are You Doing Here?
Grace took a deep breath and said, "Vesper City! Mrs. Young showed me a great storefront last month. I checked it out and decided to take it."
"Vesper City?" Henry was surprised.
He kissed her deeply, then whispered, "Do you like it that much?"
Trying to make her happy, he reached for his phone. "I'll have Celeste check my schedule. If I'm free, I'll go with you. We can hang out after I'm done."
"No need!" Grace quickly stopped him. "I'll come back right after. Besides, I'm not feeling well and a bit lazy."
Henry's eyes narrowed.
Grace's heart raced, worried he'd notice something.
But he just looked at her for a while, then adjusted her nightgown and tied the belt, lingering a bit.
His voice was husky. "You don't usually talk this much. Once the baby is born, let's go have some fun, okay?"
Grace smiled faintly.
The next morning, Henry personally took her to the airport.
After the morning meeting, Celeste followed Henry back to the office, glanced at the schedule, and said, "Mr. Montague, the dinner with Mr. Murphy from Ascend Global Group tonight has been canceled."
Henry, looking sharp and well-dressed, was handling business matters. Even the creases on his shirt looked elegant, and the diamond cufflinks Grace had given him sparkled.
He flipped through the documents and casually asked, "What about the afternoon? Any important appointments?"
Celeste shook her head. "None for now."
Henry played with his gold pen, thinking. "Check the flights to Vesper City. If there are none, arrange a private jet. I want to be there by evening."
Celeste knew Grace had gone to Vesper City and guessed Henry wanted to join her. She smiled. "Okay, Mr. Montague, I'll handle it. And congrats on becoming a father!"
Thinking of Taylor, Henry felt a softness in his heart but pretended to be indifferent. "I'll be 30 next year. It's time to plan for a child."
Celeste smiled faintly and, after leaving the office, leaned against the door, thinking, 'It's time to let go completely.'
Henry went to Vesper City without telling Grace.
After landing, he got into a private car and called Grace's assistant to ask about her schedule. The assistant's voice was sweet. "Mrs. Montague has a dinner appointment with a friend at Fragrant Garden."
A friend in Vesper City? Henry had never heard of Grace having friends there.
He didn't say much to the assistant, just asked her not to tell Grace. The assistant didn't think much of it. "I understand, Mr. Montague. You want to surprise her."
Henry hung up, checked the time, and told the driver, "Go to Fragrant Garden."
The driver headed to Fragrant Garden.
By the time they arrived, it was dusk.
The evening sky was a near-blood red, dimmed by neon lights.
The driver parked and opened the back door for Henry, asking softly, "Mr. Montague, should I wait here?"
Henry nodded and walked into the restaurant.
Henry easily spotted Grace. She was dining with a distinguished man and a pretty little girl, about ten years old. The girl seemed very close to Grace, suggesting they had met before.
The man was Brent, a well-known businessman in Vesper City. Henry remembered that Amara had a close relationship with Brent and had even brought him to a private party at their villa. Was Grace's connection with Brent through Amara?
Henry smiled coldly and walked over.
Grace looked up, startled. "Henry, what are you doing here?"
Henry smiled, gently wrapping his arm around her shoulder. "Wanted to surprise you. I asked your assistant and found out you were here."
He extended his hand to Brent. "Mr. Morgan, nice to see you again."
Brent stood up, shook his hand, and introduced his daughter to Henry.
Henry patted the little girl's head and smiled. "Grace loves kids. Mr. Morgan, I appreciate your thoughtfulness."
He then sat next to Grace and joined them for dinner.
Henry and Brent talked business, but he didn't forget to care for Grace, frequently placing food in front of her and speaking to her gently.
Grace understood Henry's intentions.
After dinner, they said goodbye to Brent and his daughter. Henry and Grace stood under the neon lights, silent.
The driver brought the car over. "Mr. Montague, Mrs. Montague, I'll take you back to the hotel."
In the car, there was a long silence.
Finally, Grace spoke softly, "There's nothing between us, Henry. You're overthinking it."
"Really?" Henry turned to her, lowering his voice. "Mr. Morgan may have a daughter, but I don't think he has a wife. Is he pursuing you? Even though he knows you're married, he still holds hope."
Grace turned away. "We're just friends."
She expected Henry to get angry, but he surprised her by saying softly, "I believe you, Mrs. Montague."
At the hotel, Grace went to shower first.
Henry looked around. Grace had booked an executive suite, approximately 800 square feet, spacious enough for the two of them. But Henry had other thoughts. He called Celeste to check on some things.
While waiting, Henry fiddled with the documents on the bedside table and found Grace's long-term residence permit for Vesper City.
His blue eyes narrowed. About five minutes later, his phone rang, and Celeste sent him some information.
After reading it, Henry's expression changed. He took out a cigarette, lit it, and watched the smoke rise.
Henry's expression was complicated. Grace had obtained long-term residency in Vesper City and bought a 3,000-square-foot villa there. It was beautiful, with a small garden, and conveniently located near a hospital, school, and supermarket—perfect for a family.
But it didn't include him. In Grace's plans, there was no place for Henry.
