Chapter 286 He's So Happy
After Grace's incident, Oliver spent a year slowly moving his business from Vesper City back to Evergreen City. The latest financial assessment showed that the Montague Group was still the top dog in Evergreen City, with Frank and Oliver right behind.
The Cavendish family had been around for generations, but Oliver made his own way to success. The struggle to get there was unimaginable.
When Oliver returned to Evergreen City, he left Sarah in Dawnstar. Over the past year, Sarah stayed the same, dependent on others like a child. She feared him but couldn't leave him.
Sarah gave him a son named Jacob Windsor, who was mostly cared for by Oliver.
Sarah was never close to Jacob.
From her looks to her spirit, she still seemed like a young girl, as if she'd never had children. In the past six months, every time he touched her, she resisted fiercely. Occasionally, when he forgot to wear a condom, she would tremble and cry out in pain.
At that moment, no matter how urgent he was, he would open the drawer to get one.
Oliver also thought that Sarah's condition was indeed not suitable for having more children. She could barely take care of herself. They were often apart, and she was closed off in her own world. Over time, he grew indifferent to her.
Recently, there were other women around him who were understanding, talkative, and knew men better. Actually, he no longer hated Sarah. Perhaps after she gave birth to Jacob, he felt that his revenge was enough.
Oliver occasionally considered divorcing Sarah, but he thought that even if they divorced, he would still take care of her for the rest of his life.
Oliver suddenly remembered that simple wedding he had with Sarah. He had once told her that he would be with her for a lifetime.
When Oliver left, he made a call to Dawnstar.
The call was answered by a servant, who respectfully said, "Mr. Windsor, are you looking for Mrs. Windsor?"
Oliver's voice was low as he responded, "Yeah."
The servant went upstairs to call her, and after a while, she came back down and told Oliver, "Mrs. Windsor is still sleeping. She was painting until 2 AM last night. Mr. Windsor, when you're not home, she never takes care of herself. Her health isn't as good as it used to be."
Oliver's heart sank. He realized it had been about a month since he last visited Sarah. He was usually busy and rarely contacted her, and she never called him either. Their relationship was indeed very distant.
He pondered for a moment and asked the servant, "Does she always stay up at night?"
The servant, who had been brought over from Vesper City and was quite good to Sarah, seized the opportunity to say, "Mrs. Windsor has a low mental capacity and can't take care of herself. Mr. Windsor, if you plan to settle down in the country, why not bring Mrs. Windsor over?"
Oliver had never thought about it. He used to be busy, and now, he and Sarah had almost no feelings left, not even hatred. How could he take her in?
Oliver thought he should find some time to go back and talk to Sarah about divorce. After the divorce, he would still take good care of her as before.
After Oliver left, Henry returned to the villa.
Sawyer was about to take Taylor to school, and Clara was holding Avery, giving some instructions. Seeing Henry return, she couldn't help but say, "Oliver just came by."
Henry lifted Taylor and put her in the car. He turned to Clara and said, "Yes, I just saw him."
Clara noticed his clothes and guessed that he had been in a fight. She sighed inwardly and didn't say much, but Taylor asked, "Dad, were you with Mom last night?"
Clara stood to the side, and Henry felt a bit embarrassed.
He cleared his throat and replied, "Yes, with Ms. Windsor."
Taylor raised her voice as she said, "Mom is Mom, not Ms. Windsor. Dad, you're really shameless."
Henry was left speechless. As the black car drove away, he looked at Clara and asked, "Was Taylor talking about me just now?"
Clara replied, "It seems there's no one else here."
Henry touched his nose.
But last night was so sweet, Henry was in a great mood. He kissed Avery and said, "Mom will be back soon; no need to call her Ms. Windsor anymore."
Avery, though young, caught the key point. "Daddy likes Ms. Windsor," he said.
Not only Henry but even Clara laughed. She pretended to complain, "It's because you don't teach them properly, making the kids speak improperly. If Grace takes it seriously, she'll be upset."
Henry smiled softly in the morning light. "I'll make it up to her," he said.
Seeing him like this, Clara's eyes couldn't help but get moist, but then she thought of Oliver and couldn't help but worry.
Clara had been through it all, and she had watched Oliver grow up. His thoughts weren't hard to guess. The revenge was real, and falling for Sarah was real too. But now that Sarah was mentally impaired, Oliver, being a man, would feel lonely. He probably already had someone else by his side, which was why he was so eager to divorce Sarah. Clara really hated Dylan, but she knew Sarah and her child with Oliver were innocent. Thinking of this, she felt sad.
Henry noticed her thoughts. Holding Avery with one arm, he gently put his other arm around Clara's shoulder and comforted her, "If their relationship is like that, it's better for them to separate if there's no love."
Hearing his words, Clara forced a smile.
Henry had a meeting to attend, but he still had breakfast with Clara. Before leaving, he kissed Avery again.
Clara said, "He's almost four years old; it's time for him to go to preschool."
Henry put on his coat and changed his shoes, saying, "We'll talk about it when his mom comes back. Let him play for another half year."
Clara couldn't help but say, "Henry, you're spoiling the child too much."
Henry just smiled. The love he didn't receive as a child, he wanted to give to his two children. Grace had once said she wanted to be a good mother. When she wasn't around, he wanted to be a good father and make the children happy.
At the office, he was in a good mood all day and even got teased by Celeste a couple of times.
After work, he called Grace, wanting to go to her place.
But on the phone, Grace softly said, "I'm at the villa, helping Taylor with his studies. It's the job Mr. Montague arranged for me last week, remember?"
Grace's voice was soft. Henry was completely captivated by her.
He leaned back in the soft leather seat, lightly laughing, "You still dare to call me Mr. Montague?"
Last night, she called him Mr. Montague, and the consequences were quite severe.
With his reminder, Grace remembered and blushed.
Henry couldn't bear to tease her any longer, his voice low as he said, "Take care of yourself. I'll be back soon."
Though it was a simple statement, it made Grace blush.
Across from her, Taylor put down her book and seriously asked, "Ms. Windsor, do you really like my dad? Are you totally smitten by him?"
Grace lightly touched her face, feeling very hot. She pretended to be serious and told Taylor to continue studying. Taylor, while copying, muttered to herself, "If you like him, just admit it."
By this time, it was already evening.
The last bit of sunset shone through the floor-to-ceiling windows, adding a touch of warmth to the faces. Grace looked at Taylor.
Taylor was exceptionally good-looking, but besides being pretty, there were other things about her that Grace liked.
Grace couldn't quite put it into words. After a while, she couldn't help but touch Taylor's head and finally admitted, "Yes, I like your dad."
Taylor happily continued writing and said, "Ms. Windsor, don't worry. Avery and I won't be obstacles in your love story with Dad. If you get married, we can be the flower girl and ring bearer."
She looked up, staring straight at Grace. "We have no problem calling you Mom right now."
Grace was at a loss for words when the sound of a car came from the courtyard downstairs. It must be Henry coming back.
Henry parked the car, turned off the engine, and got out.
It was a bit cold outside in the winter.
There was only a hint of twilight left in the sky. He had been longing to see Grace, but he wanted to smoke a cigarette to ease his sweet feelings. He was so happy.
