Chapter 24 A Marriage with Only Sex and No Love
The Montague Group's first-floor parking lot.
Henry killed the engine. After a moment, he decided to call Grace, but she didn't pick up.
He didn't bother calling again. Instead, he leaned back in the leather seat and lit a cigarette.
Grace must be pissed, he thought.
Was it because of his behavior last night or because he left in the middle of the night? She must've heard Celeste on the phone.
Holding his phone, Henry wondered if he should send her a message.
'Maybe try to smooth things over?' The thought lasted only a second before he dismissed it.
Sweet gestures were for couples in love, not for him and Grace. He never loved her—not in the past, not now, and not ever.
Just as he put his phone away, Celeste opened the car door for him.
Despite not sleeping all night, Celeste was full of energy. She was always dedicated to her work, which Henry appreciated. Otherwise, he wouldn't have kept her around after she crossed the line.
As they walked into the elevator, Celeste started going over the schedule.
Henry suddenly interrupted, "Clear Thursday evening. Caleb's wife from Horizon Innovations is hosting a party. You'll come with me, and the company will cover the attire. You know how important the Horizon project is. Don't screw it up!"
Celeste took a moment to process. "Mr. Montague, you want me to go to Mrs. Young's party with you?"
"Is there a problem?"
"No! No problem!"
Celeste quickly composed herself. "Mr. Montague, don't worry! I'll do great and help secure the project."
Henry said nothing and walked out of the elevator.
Inside the elevator, Celeste adjusted her appearance in the mirror. Looking at her slender figure and elegant face, she thought, 'Mrs. Montague should attend a high-end party like Mrs. Young. But Mr. Montague is taking me instead. Doesn't that mean I'm more important to him?'
She had overestimated Grace. In Henry's eyes, Grace, as Mrs. Montague, was still worthless!
Celeste put a lot of thought into the party. After days of searching, she finally chose a dress from a certain brand—romantic yet intellectual, and white to match Henry's black suit.
Admiring herself in the mirror, Celeste gently stroked the dress and smiled. "I'll take this one!"
The dress cost $78,000, and Celeste swiped her card without hesitation. The store manager said, "We'll keep this dress safe for Ms. Johnson. You can pick it up before the party."
Celeste nodded gracefully. Just as she was about to leave, her phone rang. It was Henry.
Henry's tone was indifferent. "Mrs. Young wants Grace to come early to help. I recommended you instead. Note down the address and contact Mrs. Young."
Celeste was stunned, her heart racing. At that moment, she felt like the true Mrs. Montague.
On the other end, Henry hung up, holding a golf club, about to join the crowd ahead, when a calm voice called from behind. "Henry!"
He turned and saw Felix.
Felix had clearly overheard Henry's call. He nodded towards Caleb ahead. "Why not let Grace go? Afraid to let others see her?"
Felix's words had a bite to them.
Henry smirked, signaled the caddie to place the ball, then leaned in and swung.
Watching the ball's trajectory, Henry walked towards it, speaking slowly, "Since when do you know me so well? Yeah, a wife at home should be kept close, lest others covet her. Don't you agree, Felix?"
Felix's expression darkened.
After a moment, Felix sneered, "But sometimes, no matter how tightly you hold on, it might not work! Isn't there a saying, love is like sand in your hand—the tighter you grip, the faster it slips away!"
Under the setting sun, the grass was lush and green.
Henry, dressed in a white casual outfit, looked vigorous. He lowered his head and swung the club.
Two strokes and the ball was in the hole.
Henry had no intention of playing further.
Handing the club to the caddie, he reached for a towel to wipe his hands and flashed a smile at Felix. "Felix, from childhood to now, I've always managed to get what I want. And you know my temperament."
He didn't want to fall out with Felix over Grace.
Though Grace was his wife, she didn't hold that much importance in his heart. A little hint was enough.
Henry walked away first.
Felix stood his ground, his expression aloof. He couldn't quite understand what was going on with himself.
In the past, Felix didn't care for Grace, but now he longed for Henry to let go and for them to divorce. Would that give him a chance?
Henry didn't expect Celeste to mess things up.
On Wednesday afternoon, Celeste went to Amara's villa to help, but within two hours, Amara had kicked her out.
Henry held a high position in the business world, and people generally wouldn't disrespect him, which showed how angry Amara was.
Celeste felt very wronged. Not only did Amara scold her, but she also asked her to tell Grace to come over.
Looking at Henry's expression, Celeste said softly, "Mr. Montague, I think this project is a lost cause! Caleb must have his candidate, or his wife wouldn't disrespect you like this."
Henry closed the file. "What did Mrs. Young ask you to help with?"
Celeste recounted the events and then added, "Mr. Montague, I truly gave it my all! However, Mrs. Young is adamant about having Grace attend tomorrow's party."
Celeste had her selfish motives, but she was still hoping she would be the one to attend the party the next day.
Henry listened quietly and then made a decision. "Tomorrow's party, I'll take Grace."
Celeste's mood took a nosedive. Trembling, her lips quivering, she couldn't resist belittling Grace, "Grace is completely clueless about the project. She lacks understanding of business matters."
Henry leaned back in his chair, gazing at Celeste calmly. "But Grace understands, Mrs. Young. And Celeste, this decision is a notification, not a discussion."
After Celeste left, Henry called Grace.
Perhaps out of spite, she still refused to answer his calls. Henry called several times, but she kept hanging up.
Henry thought for a moment and sent her a message on social media: [Need money? How about $200,000 to accompany me to a party?]
He didn't believe Grace wouldn't be tempted by $200,000.
But Henry was wrong. Despite sending the message, he waited for thirty minutes without a response from Grace.
Frowning slightly, he proceeded to transfer $200,000 to her account directly.
