Chapter 301 Accompany Me Once More!
He stared at her, captivated by her beauty.
Her features were delicate, almost otherworldly.
After a moment, he turned and leaned back on the couch, gently pulling Sarah in his arms. The man who had been so fierce moments ago was now unbelievably tender. He gazed at her while pulling a small box from his pocket, revealing a pink diamond.
He opened it to
Sarah was momentarily stunned.
Her fingers were already being held, and the diamond ring was gently slipped onto her finger. The precious stone sparkled brilliantly under the light.
Oliver's blue eyes were fixed on her. His voice was slightly hoarse, "I just got it back a couple of days ago! I wanted to surprise you, but you ended up surprising me first! Sarah, promise me you won't see Lowell anymore."
Sarah looked down, lightly twisting the ring.
To other women, it was a valuable piece of jewelry, but to her, it was a burden she couldn't bear. She was temporarily with him, but how could she not yearn for freedom?
A month of simple living in Skylandia was what she truly longed for.
But she didn't say any of this.
She looked up and smiled faintly, "It's beautiful."
Oliver's blue eyes glistened slightly as he stared at her.
The unexpected events of that night seemed to have passed.
For the next couple of weeks, Sarah was busy with the gallery.
She didn't have much ambition for her career, but if her job gave her a reason to avoid Oliver, that was fine by her. She couldn't stand the idea of living under his constant surveillance, her world reduced to only him, 24/7.
They were both busy and saw each other less.
Sarah thought it was great.
But she hadn't expected Oliver to take out his jealousy on Lowell. Lowell ended up in several entertainment news stories, exposed for having a girlfriend, which was a fatal blow for a young actor.
Lowell lost several endorsements.
His career stalled, and a promising film script that had been set for him was now in limbo.
Everyone in the industry knew it was the Windsor Group blacklisting Lowell.
For a powerful man like Oliver, blacklisting an actor was child's play.
It was insignificant.
Sarah heard about it from Zoey.
Late at night, Sarah was still awake, waiting for Oliver.
She sat at her vanity, slowly brushing her long hair in the mirror. Around one in the morning, she heard the sound of a car in the courtyard below. Oliver was back.
A moment later, he appeared at the bedroom door.
He glanced inside, lazily loosening his tie as he asked, "Where are the kids?"
He collapsed onto the bed.
He had drunk quite a bit at a business dinner tonight, but he had secured the project.
He was in a good mood, covering his eyes with the back of his hand as he teased her.
Lately, his words to her were always suggestive.
Sarah couldn't be bothered to respond.
She remained seated at the vanity, her voice soft as she asked, "Just because Lowell and I met that night, you took away several of his endorsements and blacklisted him in the industry. Isn't that overreacting? Besides, I have no intention of making friend with him."
Her tone was calm, but there was a hint of pleading.
Oliver didn't speak at first. He lay quietly for a while, then removed his hand and sat up, leaning against the headboard. He casually lit a cigarette.
Through the thin smoke, Oliver glanced at her and spoke slowly, "Zoey told you, didn't she? Since she told you that, did she also tell you why I would go after an insignificant actor?"
Sarah didn't respond.
The large bedroom was silent.
After a long while, Oliver sneered, "Lowell is from Vesper City. He has a girlfriend named Felicity Mitchell. Sarah, doesn't that last name sound familiar?"
Sarah's face turned pale.
Oliver flicked the ash from his cigarette, his tone mocking, "Felicity is Lester's cousin! I know the Mitchell family has said plenty about you behind your back, but as Felicity's boyfriend, Lowell developed feelings for you and started courting you... Of course, I had to do something to make him back off."
"What, do you feel sorry for him?" he sneered. "Sarah, does an insignificant man mean more to you than I do?"
He kept talking about Lowell.
But Sarah knew he was really concerned about Lester. Since he couldn't bring up the dead, he took it out on the living.
Sarah leaned back in her chair, closing her eyes.
After a moment, she sighed softly, "I don't feel sorry for him! Oliver, be reasonable. There's nothing between me and him. You don't need to go after him. If we're being honest, isn't Ellie the biggest variable in our marriage? You keep saying you want to focus on our family, but you continue to support her. Even if you don't see her, how is that different from keeping a mistress?"
"I haven't held it against you, but you're holding it against me." she laughed at himself.
"She won't affect us." Mentioning Ellie, Oliver's voice turned cold, "She's already lost a leg, and her uterus has been removed. What more do you want?"
"I lost a child too." Sarah slowly stood up.
Her face was pale under the light, but she continued to look directly at the man on the bed, not backing down. She said, "Because of Ellie, Lester and Mrs. Mitchell died, and Nicole became an orphan! Isn't that enough? Oliver, what you've done for her, what you've given her... isn't that enough?"
She finally brought up Lester, confronting Oliver, all for Lowell.
Oliver's expression darkened. He looked at her, his voice icy and devoid of warmth, as he sneered. "Not enough! At least she truly cares for me! At least I'm the only one in her heart!"
The atmosphere in the bedroom dropped to freezing.
Sarah quietly looked at Oliver, who was supposed to be her husband. It was only now that she sadly realized that no matter how hard she tried, there was always a part of Oliver's heart that belonged to Ellie, a part that couldn't be driven away.
Even with Jacob, she couldn't shake it.
But Oliver seemed to forgot that she had once been entirely devoted to him. Now, they were like strangers sharing a bed. Who was to blame?
Yes... who was to blame?
She lowered her eyes and smiled bitterly.
Her voice was low as she spoke, "Do whatever you want! Be good to whoever you want, make whoever you want disappear... it's your business. I won't interfere anymore. But don't do it in the name of love, because that makes me sick."
"Oliver, you really make me sick." She was truly disappointed.
That was why she could speak so calmly, saying such final words...
