Chapter 381 Unintentionally Exposed
Oliver met Zoey in the study, where a small bottle labeled "abortion drug" sat ominously on the dark desk.
He leaned back in the leather chair, resting his hand against his chin. "Take a look at this," he signaled to her.
Zoey hesitated, her heart pounding as she picked it up.
Seeing her silence, Oliver scoffed. "How did Sarah manage to bribe someone close to Ellie? I don't want to get into the details, but I know there aren't many around me capable of such a thing! I just want to know, what's the deal with this drug?"
Oliver paused, gathering the courage to continue, "I want to know why she doesn't want the baby!"
"It's not that she doesn't want the baby!" Zoey blurted out, immediately regretting it as she realized she had revealed too much.
Oliver stared at her intently.
Zoey deliberated for a moment, then decided to go all in. She placed her hands on either side of the desk and leaned forward slightly, her tone urgent, "Sarah loves children. She wouldn't give up this baby for no reason. I think even if it wasn't planned, if it were healthy, she would choose to give birth and raise it."
"Mr. Windsor, you think she's changed. I don't think she's changed at all. She's still that naive, innocent girl. If she weren't so innocent, she could've just ignored your betrayal. All she had to do was keep you happy, and she could've had a comfortable life. She wouldn't have to take care of Lester's daughter. Mr. Windsor, what do you think conscience is? In the business world, how much of it do we really have left? But Sarah has it! She's different from us."
Zoey finished in one breath.
She awaited Oliver's judgment, knowing that Ellie's leg and uterus were lost partly because of her involvement in helping Sarah.
She thought she was about to lose her job.
Oliver quietly stared at Zoey for a long moment. He then picked up a cigarette from the pack on the desk, slowly lighting it as he spoke, "Zoey, redeem yourself. Find that doctor for me. I want to see him before dawn!"
Zoey's nose tingled, "Yes, Mr. Windsor."
She left in the night, knowing Oliver's temper. If he were truly angry, her personal safety would be at risk. She wasn't the delicate Ellie; he wouldn't show her any leniency.
Zoey acted swiftly. By dawn, the doctor was brought to the villa, bound and kneeling in the hall.
He looked up at Oliver on the couch, dressed in a crisp white shirt with neatly combed hair.
He had a handsome face with distinct features, but his sharpness made him appear brooding and unapproachable, surrounded by a low-pressure aura.
The doctor recognized him, his square, chubby face showing fear. Without needing to be beaten, he confessed everything, "The child was actually unhealthy! Her heart wasn't developing well. Mrs. Windsor gave me that ring and asked me not to say anything. I was greedy and altered the medical records! Mr. Windsor, please spare me. I'll return all the money from the ring. I don't want a penny. Please, just let me go!"
Oliver sat expressionless, saying nothing, leaving everyone guessing his thoughts.
He thought it was God punishing him for everything he did to Sarah.
Sarah knew the child was unhealthy. What was she thinking? She must have hated him! Hated him for forcing her to get pregnant, for taking away her freedom. She hated him so much, yet she still pretended to be compliant. She must have really wanted to leave him.
She was innocent and kind, yet she navigated every step with caution and successfully escaped!
She was so timid and afraid of pain, yet she chose to face everything alone.
She never even said, "Oliver, I'm scared of the pain," to him.
Because he was never by her side.
In Sarah's heart, he must have loved Ellie!
After a long while, Oliver looked down at the doctor and said, "I don't want the money. That was Mrs. Windsor's gift to you, but I also want to give you a little gift."
The doctor widened his eyes in terror.
Oliver looked at the bodyguard, slightly raising his chin, and said nonchalantly, "Leave one finger! Do it outside, don't dirty this place. My wife likes cleanliness."
The bodyguard dragged the doctor away.
Moments later, a blood-curdling scream echoed from afar.
Oliver remained quietly still.
Beside him, Zoey didn't dare to breathe loudly. She mustered the courage to ask, "Mr. Windsor, what do we do now?"
Oliver looked up, his eyes stinging, and said, "Let's go back to Vesper City! Even though I know she's not there, I still want to go back and see. Maybe Sarah is there, maybe Sarah has had a change of heart and is waiting for me there!"
