Chapter 199 It Is Equivalent to Committing Suicide!

The walls in the ward were this soft pink, giving off a cozy vibe.

Taylor was still feeling pretty weak. Leaning against the white pillow, she nervously asked Grace for the first time, "Mom, am I gonna die?"

Grace's heart shattered, but she tried her best to keep it together in front of Taylor.

She even managed a smile and said, "Of course not!"

Taylor still felt dizzy.. Leaning against Grace, she whispered, "Why can't I go to school like the other kids? Mom, if you and Dad have another baby, make sure he's healthy and good-looking. That way, if I'm not around, you and Dad will still have a beautiful baby!"

Grace had no clue where she picked that up.

She broke down right then and there. Fighting back tears, she asked Clara to help take care of Taylor and stepped out of the room.

She needed to chill out, or she'd lose it.

Henry was at the door and stopped her. He took her to his office. The warm sunlight and hot water couldn't ease Grace's inner fear. She looked up at Henry, her voice shaking. "Taylor's condition's gotten worse! She might not make it to the new treatment."

Henry held her shoulders and gently told her to calm down. But Grace couldn't chill.

The doc's news had just slammed a door of hope shut in her face. How could she calm down? She couldn't, especially when Taylor asked if she was gonna die.

In fact, Taylor got it all.

Grace leaned on Henry's shoulder, biting down hard on it. "Henry, she actually understands everything. She gets it all."

Henry held her tight, not feeling the physical pain 'cause he thought their Taylor was in way more pain.

At that moment, his heart was filled with sorrow!

He looked down at Grace slowly 'cause he knew that after he said those words, he wouldn't be able to stay with them anymore.

Whether dead or disabled, how could he pursue her like this or ask her to be his wife?

So he would let go, let her leave!

Without Henry, Grace could still live well with the kids, but without Taylor, she'd never be happy in this life, and she'd always hate him.

When the pain hit its peak, the heart instead became calm.

Henry looked at Grace's face with deep affection, his voice as gentle as possible."Taylor will be fine! An international team of experts has come up with a new treatment plan, and they've found a suitable bone marrow in the bone marrow bank. The surgery can be done next month."

Grace looked at him, stunned. "Really?"

Henry gently touched her face, smiling softly. "It's true! I promise Taylor will be fine."

Tears fell from Grace's eyes.

Henry leaned in to kiss away her tears, always looking at her, saying goodbye to her every minute and second without her knowing.

After Grace left, Henry stayed alone for a while, standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, quietly looking at the yellowing sycamore leaves outside. He thought that by this time next year, he might not be able to be with Grace and Taylor anymore.

Maybe he'd already be dead.

Henry didn't want Grace to know, didn't want her to be sad.

The door was gently pushed open.

Lucas came in, standing at the door looking at Henry in front of the window, his voice suppressed with anger. "Henry, are you nuts? This is basically suicide!"

Henry didn't turn around, still looking out the window. After a while, he said calmly, "Taylor can't wait that long. She needs surgery ASAP! Lucas, tell me, what other choice do I have besides this? Can I let Grace donate half of her bone marrow to save Taylor?"

"I can't!" Henry burst out. "Taylor means the world to me, but so does Grace, especially after all the crap I've put her through!"

Henry paused, his fingers curling into a fist, his voice dropping to a whisper. "I know you still have feelings for her, and she once felt the same about you."

Lucas cut him off, "Why are you playing the martyr now?"

Henry lowered his eyes, a bitter smile on his face.

After a moment, he slowly turned around, looking at Lucas and softly said, "Back then, all I cared about was power. I saw my wife and kids as just accessories. Never thought I'd be willing to trade my life for my kid's. Losing one can be replaced, right?"

"But Taylor is the child Grace gave me," Henry continued. "I love her so much."

Henry didn't clarify if "her" meant Grace or Taylor.

Lucas didn't push further, nor did he argue anymore because he saw Henry's resolve and lonely courage.

Turned out, when you loved someone, you could give everything, even your life.

Turned out, Henry had that kind of passion too.

Sunlight streamed in.

Lucas spoke softly, "I'll be your surgeon! But Henry, you gotta live! Even if you're disabled, you have to keep going."

When Lucas turned to leave, his eyes were wet with tears.

Lucas thought that he and Grace could never be a thing in this life! Henry's love and hate stood so strongly in his way. Their relationship never allowed for anyone else.

In the past, Henry was her first love, and in the future, Henry would be the person she could never forget.

Taylor had a new treatment plan.

Clara was so excited when she heard the news that she cried. She quietly told Grace, "Henry may have his flaws, but he's solid on this. I believe with him, Taylor's illness can be cured."

Grace softly responded. She gently touched Taylor's sleeping face, her heart finally at ease.

Clara thought that if Taylor recovered and if Grace and Henry had another kid, they should be together. The past could slowly fade away. The important thing was that Henry was treating Grace really well now.

Henry pushed the door open and came in.

Clara's attitude towards him was much more relaxed. Seeing him come in, she found an excuse to leave. "I'll go grab some food. You two talk!"

Henry nodded. After Clara left, he gently closed the door and sat down next to Grace.

He gently held her shoulder, watching Taylor with her. After a while, he spoke softly, "We can go home after staying in the hospital for two days! With the surgery next month, she needs to eat healthier food."

Grace didn't push him away.

She leaned on his shoulder, softly saying, "I'll put everything aside this month and take care of her at home."

Henry turned his head, looking at her gentle profile. His heart was moved, but he held back. He talked to her about everyday stuff, like a husband instructing his wife. "The company's been pretty busy lately. I might have to work overtime. If she doesn't want to sleep at night, call me, and I'll talk her to sleep over the phone."

After Henry finished speaking, his heart was filled with sadness again.

If the surgery didn't go well, the Montague Group would be handed over to Grace. She was capable, but he wanted to clear all obstacles and hand it over to her smoothly.

There was still a month left, but he had too many things to plan.
