Chapter 438 Why Did You Leave Back Then? Was It Because of Nicholas?

After quite a moment, Sarah snapped back to reality.

She called her assistant over to entertain the clients while she took Nicholas into her private office.

Though they were family, the atmosphere was tense and silent.

Sarah made tea, her voice soft, "The same as before?"

Nicholas sat on a single-seater sofa.

He looked around at everything, noticing Sarah's scattered paintings and the faint scent of her perfume.

Now, he couldn't bring himself to call her "Aunt."

He stared at her back, his voice hoarse when he finally spoke, "About Jeremy, Grandpa didn't mean it that way. He just wanted to test me... to see if I still had the drive."

Sarah's tea-making paused for a moment.

With her back to him, she spoke quietly, "Nicholas, Mr. Moore values you, and I should be happy for you, but being dragged into this is humiliating. So, when you go back, tell Mr. Moore not to do this again."

The tea was ready, its aroma filling the room.

She placed it in front of him, giving a bitter smile, "Hurting others would only hurt yourself."

Nicholas stared at her intently.

As he had been immersed in those environments for so long, his demeanor and gaze had changed. She remembered the old Nicholas, who was gentle and quiet, a beautiful sight when he read.

Recently, she had heard from Sofia about Nicholas's ways.

Now, at just 28, he seemed so much darker.

On the surface, Nicholas appeared calm and composed, but Sarah had seen the best of him and knew he was different now.

She sat on the sofa opposite him.

For a long time, they remained silent.

Finally, Nicholas spoke first, "From the moment I walked in, you've been calling Grandpa 'Mr. Moore.' Are you really never coming home because of one incident?"

Sarah picked up her tea,

Her expression was tinged with bitterness. "Home? Nicholas, do you think I can go back? Ever since you said those things four years ago, since that night you flipped the table, I've had no way back! With the Moore family... we're strangers now."

Nicholas's face was expressionless. "What about me?"

Now, Nicholas was the decisive Mr. Moore. He looked at Sarah with a gaze that was no longer innocent, asking her, "Sarah, what do you plan to do with me?"

Those simple words revealed his thoughts.

He picked up a cigarette from the pack on the table but didn't put it to his lips. He stared at her intently and said softly, "I bought a villa in the city. You and Jacob can live there. I'll also help with your business."

Sarah felt a chill run through her. "Nicholas, do you know what you're doing?"

"I'm not doing anything!"

"I just want to take care of my aunt. Is that wrong?"

Nicholas's gaze was dark, fixed on her.

He had changed!

Suppressing her emotions, Sarah spoke, "Nicholas, you have a career and a family now. Stop saying these crazy things. Haven't you hurt me enough? Four years, how many four years does a person have?"

Nicholas sneered, pressing her, "If you hadn't left back then, would you have gotten back together with him?"

"Yes!" Sarah said firmly.

There was a flash of red in Nicholas's eyes.

They were family, yet they hurt each other.

After a moment, Sarah lowered her gaze.

Her voice was choked and weak, "Nicholas, go back. Don't come here again!"

Nicholas was about to speak,

When there was a knock on the door, "Ms. Miller, a Mr. Windsor is here to see you."

Oliver...

At this moment, Sarah would rather face Oliver than deal with Nicholas. She spoke to Nicholas with a polite tone, "Nicholas, as you can see, I'm a bit busy!"

Nicholas didn't push. He stood up, his expression cold, "Then I won't interrupt your reunion."

As he left, he ran into Oliver.

Oliver was impeccably dressed, mature and handsome, the kind of person Nicholas despised.

Nicholas said coldly, "Mr. Windsor, what a coincidence!"

Oliver glanced at Sarah inside, then at Nicholas. A sharp glint flashed in his eyes, and his tone matched Nicholas's sarcasm, "Mr. Moore, a rare guest! Aren't you busy with your schemes? What brings you here to show filial piety to your aunt?"

Nicholas's expression grew colder. "No need for your concern, Mr. Windsor!"

He left quickly.

As they passed, their shoulders brushed, full of tension.

Nicholas left, and Oliver entered the office with Electra.

After what had just happened, Sarah was exhausted. She didn't even bother with pleasantries, "Oliver, if it's important, say it. If not, don't linger."

She held her head, not even making tea for him.

She didn't look at Electra either.

Electra didn't mind, playing with her manicured nails.

Oliver chuckled, "What, things didn't go well with Nicholas, so you're taking it out on me?"

Sarah didn't deny it!

She leaned back on the sofa, lost in thought.

Oliver was a bit displeased.

He was still here, but she was thinking about something else.

Sometimes, men are sensitive, too. He recalled Nicholas's expression when he left, and that night, Nicholas flipped the table at the restaurant. Everything pointed to one fact.

Oliver turned his head, telling Electra to leave first.

Electra lazily got up.

In the large office, only Oliver and Sarah were left. Oliver poured out the tea Nicholas had drunk and made a new cup for himself.

Once the tea was ready,

With his back to her, he asked softly, "Why did you leave back then? Was it because of Nicholas?"

Sarah looked up.

Her eyes were filled with bitterness and a hint of moisture.

Just now, when Nicholas asked about the past, her answer was both out of spite and truth! If it hadn't been for Nicholas, she thought she would have kept the appointment and given Oliver a chance.

But she didn't go; she missed the appointment!

Over the years, how could she tell him about the Moore family's hidden secrets, especially when she herself couldn't go back?

Besides, he already had a girlfriend.

Sarah's voice was bitter, "No! It wasn't because of him!"

Oliver quietly stared at her.

His eyes were deep, holding meanings she couldn't understand.

After a moment, he smiled faintly, "Is that so? Then you just didn't want to start over with me! Fine, let's get to business. I'm here to ask for Ms. Miller's help."

One moment, he was full of affection and, next, he was all business.

He sat down on the sofa, smiling elegantly, "Electra wants to be a guest artist here. I'd like to ask Ms. Miller to do us a favor and hire her to work here every day..."

He finished speaking and wrote a check for $50 million, a grand gesture.

He said, "This is my sincerity! Ms. Miller, please accept it."

After speaking, he stared straight at her!

It was as if he could see the hidden bitterness in her heart. She cared, she was jealous, but couldn't say it.

His Sarah, deep down, still had feelings for him...
