Chapter 358 Pregnant! They Are Having Their Second Child
The pregnancy test stick lay on the dark-colored bed sheet.
Sarah didn't move for a long time.
Oliver, dressed impeccably, leaned against the headboard, continuing to smoke. His eyes were fixed on her. "Need a hand? I'd be more than happy to help."
Sarah took a deep breath. She knew all too well his methods and ruthlessness.
She didn't resist, taking the small item into the attached bathroom. Having given birth before, she was familiar with the process. About two minutes later, on the gray marble countertop, the pregnancy test stick slowly revealed two faint red lines.
She was pregnant. Even though she had mentally prepared herself, Sarah still felt a bit dazed.
She hated Oliver so much, yet she was carrying his child. How ridiculous.
Oliver pushed the door open and came in. He was tall and almost filled the space, making it difficult to move around. Sarah wanted to avoid him, but he wouldn't let her. He wrapped one arm around her slender waist and picked up the pregnancy test stick with the other hand.
He looked at it for about 10 seconds before tossing it into the trash can.
Sarah was carried back to the small room. In the past, in this simple room, he had wantonly and roughly released his desire, disregarding her feelings.
Now, he was surprisingly gentle.
Sarah sat on the narrow bed, and he half-knelt, gently pressing his handsome, sharp face against her soft belly. In a low voice, he said, "When you were pregnant with Jacob, I thought you were mentally unstable. We didn't raise the child together! Sarah, this time we'll welcome a new life together. We've been making love frequently. I think it should be a girl, who will grow up to be as sweet as you!"
Sarah listened numbly. Until now, she finally understood that fighting against Oliver was utterly futile. He was a bastard!
In his mind, the birth of a child was just a means to achieve his goals.
He succeeded. He won. She couldn't beat him!
In the dim light, Sarah gently raised her hand, finally resting it on his sharp, well-defined face. Her slender fingers caressed bit by bit, and finally, in a hoarse voice, she said, "Leave Nicole with me, and I'll stay by your side."
Oliver looked up at her. He didn't see the disappointment in her eyes; he only thought she was gentle and lovely.
Suddenly, he buried his face in her palm.
Oliver grabbed Sarah's arm, not letting her escape. He whispered in a low, hoarse voice, revealing his unknown vulnerability, "Sarah, I will treat you well, and our children too."
They were in a cramped cell, but for the first time, Oliver felt like he had a sense of home.
Sarah stared at him blankly, without a trace of emotion, not even pity. Oliver had never shown her any of those feelings.
All he ever gave her was pain, mistaking his coercion for love. How absurd!
The next day, the lawyer submitted a pregnancy certificate to the court, proving that Sarah was five weeks pregnant.
That evening, Sarah was released on bail.
When she came in, it was late summer; now it was already autumn. The leaves of the sycamore trees lining the road had turned slightly yellow, and the curled leaves let the golden sunset filter through.
At the entrance of the detention center, two luxurious black sedans were parked, one in front and one behind. Oliver sat in the back of the second car.
The car window was half-lowered, and he was on the phone, looking very focused.
Sarah guessed it was Ellie.
Oliver inadvertently looked up, and their eyes met, but there was no warmth. Despite the frequent nights of intimacy over the past month and the fact that they were expecting another child, they had grown more distant.
When Sarah got into the car, he had just hung up the phone.
Sarah looked straight ahead and asked softly, "Where are we going now?"
Oliver turned to look at her intently. He was handsome, and whenever he looked at a woman like this, the occasional overt sensuality made her heart race and her body and limbs go weak.
Sarah used to feel this way, but now, she felt nothing.
After a while, Oliver gently held her hand and said, "I bought an apartment! We'll stay there for now, and after the baby is born, we'll return to the country. If you want to live in a house, I'll have Zoey look for one, but it will take some time."
Sarah knew in her heart that he stayed in Windcrest for Ellie. She really wanted to know what kind of debt he owed Ellie that made him tolerate a woman who wanted to kill Jacob.
Sarah's fingers gently curled up.
An hour later, the black sedan slowly stopped in front of an apartment building.
Oliver got out first and considerately helped Sarah out of the car, but Sarah didn't appreciate it. She said indifferently, "No need."
Sarah's refusal made Oliver very upset.
But recently, he wanted to please her, so he didn't say anything.
They took the elevator to the third floor.
Oliver opened the apartment door and looked at Sarah, his voice quite gentle, "Do you like it?"
