Chapter 59 Do Not Seduce Me!
Grace's ears turned bright red. Quickly, she covered the drawer's contents with her hand. "It's nothing! Just a new perfume I bought. I was unwrapping it," she said, sounding nervous.
"Oh, really?!" Henry said slowly. "Spray some; let me smell it! Isn't perfume a woman's best nightgown?"
Henry's voice had a seductive, dominant edge that Grace couldn't resist. She was completely under his spell.
Henry had already opened the drawer and found the perfume. He sprayed a bit behind Grace's ear. She shivered as the cool mist touched her skin.
Henry's eyes darkened with desire. He gently gripped Grace's shoulders, his face close to her neck. "It does smell good," he murmured.
Grace trembled. "Henry!"
Henry chuckled. "Your period isn't even over yet, don't tempt me!"
He noticed the diary and picked it up before Grace could stop him. He casually flipped through it, one arm around Grace, the other turning the pages.
He read aloud, "Henry didn't talk to me all day!"
"The snack I gave him, he didn't even look at it. Does he hate me?"
"If he hates me, why did he lend me his jacket when I stained my skirt with my period? Does he secretly like me, too? I don't care; Henry will definitely like me tomorrow!"
Grace's face burned with embarrassment. Even though she no longer loved Henry, it felt like he was exposing her deepest secrets.
She bit her lip, about to speak, when a platinum business card fell out. It was Dylan's.
The room went silent, and Grace tensed up. She didn't know what Henry would think. If he guessed she wanted to leave him, she couldn't imagine his reaction. Maybe he'd torment her, insisting she could never leave him.
Grace trembled, not from fear, but from knowing Henry's temper after three years of marriage. She braced for his usual outburst.
But Henry surprised her. He glanced at the card and said calmly, "Why do you have Dylan's card? You've been spending a lot of time with him lately, haven't you?"
Grace relaxed a bit. "I go to his law firm to discuss Oliver's case," she said softly.
Henry asked about the case, and his tone became more relaxed. Grace felt more at ease and answered his questions. But then Henry lifted her onto the vanity table.
The cool table surface chilled her skin, making her shiver.
Henry, with his cigarette-holding fingers, played with her earlobe. "Why aren't you wearing underwear?" he asked lazily.
Grace closed her eyes, not daring to look at their compromising position. "I took a bath and was about to sleep," she said.
Henry chuckled softly. He continued to tease her gently. As he kissed behind her ear, he whispered, "So soft! After all these years of marriage, you're still like a little girl, aren't you?"
Just as Grace was about to lose control, Henry's phone rang. It was Celeste.
"Mr. Montague, there's been an incident at the hospital! A nurse gave Elodie the wrong medication. She had severe vomiting and briefly lost consciousness!" Celeste said urgently.
Henry didn't avoid Grace while taking the call. His blue eyes stayed on her, watching for any reaction.
After Celeste finished, Henry said calmly, "I'll be right there."
But he didn't leave right away. He gently touched Grace's now cooler face. "I'm going to the hospital. You should sleep early," he said, his voice a bit hoarse.
Grace stayed silent. Henry grabbed his coat from the foot of the bed, put it on, and touched her face again before leaving.
The autumn night was heavy with dew.
As Henry left, the room fell silent except for Grace's soft breaths. She felt a wave of relief. She silently thanked Celeste's call and Elodie's emergency for pulling Henry away. In that brief moment of peace, she realized how close she had come to giving in to Henry's tender gestures, only to face inevitable torment.
Grace slid off the vanity table. She picked up the fallen business card and the diary, putting them away gently.
The diary held all her youthful memories. Even when she hated him, she never thought of throwing it away.
When Henry arrived at Serenity General Hospital, Elodie was still being resuscitated. Calvin stood at the door, looking lost.
Rebecca was on the floor, crying and demanding the hospital director come and explain. "My Elodie is going to be Mrs. Montague! If you don't save her, Henry will make sure your hospital goes bankrupt! He'll have all of you begging on the streets."
Celeste couldn't take it anymore. Seeing Henry, she quickly scolded Rebecca, "Mr. Montague is here! If you care about Elodie, shut your mouth!"
Rebecca, usually arrogant, was scared when she saw Henry. She cried and begged him to seek justice. "Mr. Montague, Elodie saved your life once. You must do everything to save her!"
Henry wasn't moved. He sat on a bench and asked Celeste, "What's going on?"
Celeste explained briefly, "It's a medical accident! The hospital has called the police. But nothing has been found. What should we do now, Mr. Montague?"
Henry stared at the operating room door. After a while, he said softly, "After she gets through the critical period, transfer her to the Montague Group hospital for treatment."
Rebecca felt guilty, realizing their choice of Serenity General Hospital to impress the Windsor family had backfired. They never expected a betrayer within these walls.
Rebecca spoke quickly, "Elodie is always kind and sincere. No one would harm her on purpose. I think it's a crime of passion! I heard there's a doctor here who likes Mrs. Montague. He's high-ranking, so only he would have the means. Mr. Montague, you must seek justice for our Elodie."
While Elodie was still being resuscitated, Celeste admired Rebecca's clever two-for-one plan, impressed by her quick thinking.
At that moment, a tall figure walked down the corridor. Rebecca got even more excited, shouting, "It's him! Lucas conspires with Mrs. Montague to harm Elodie. Mr. Montague, you must investigate Mrs. Montague. Don't let her cheat on you."
Rebecca unintentionally hit a nerve with Henry, his expression instantly shifting to discomfort.
Seeing Lucas reminded him of Grace's regret and the possibility that she had someone else in her heart. He thought of her taking Dylan's card, planning to leave him!
Lucas approached, looking at Henry with a mocking smile. "Mr. Montague is really busy! Taking care of your mistress in the middle of the night, aren't you afraid Grace will be angry?"
Henry lightly patted his tailored pants, sneering, "Not as busy as you, Lucas, always coveting someone else's wife! Bringing sandwiches, offering rides, and acting all affectionate. You must be really moved by yourself!"
Lucas stood in the corridor, hands in the pockets of his white coat. Under the soft lights, his striking features resembled Henry's. After a moment of silence, Lucas spoke quietly, "It's because you didn't value her enough."
