Chapter 327 Both of You Must Pay for Jacob's Life
In the distance, a car's hazard lights were blinking.
Oliver stepped out, wiped his face, and headed over.
"Sarah." He grabbed her blood-covered hand. Rainwater poured into his mouth, muffling his voice. "You wait in the car. I'll find Jacob!"
Sarah shook off his hand and stumbled toward another trash can, not wasting a second. She kept calling out, "Jacob, Jacob."
She had only taken a few steps when Oliver grabbed her again.
He wiped his face, his tone stern. "Are you out of your mind? Get in the car! Jacob is my son too, and I'll do everything I can to find him!"
"You're not his father! You're a jerk!" Sarah slapped him again.
She took a step back, staring at him fiercely, shouting, "Without Jacob, what's the point of living? Oliver, listen to me, Jacob is my everything. If something happens to him, I won't let you and that bitch get away with it. Both of you will pay for his life."
Before Oliver could react, Sarah rushed back into the rain, searching by the dirty trash can, calling Jacob's name as she searched.
"Jacob, Jacob... just hold on, Mommy is coming to get you!"
Oliver watched her quietly, his heart breaking.
In the distance, Zoey ran over in the rain. She shook her head at Oliver. "Still no news. Ellie hasn't shown up either! Mr. Windsor, the rain is too heavy now, and many people don't want to continue."
Oliver's Adam's apple bobbed, and he said without hesitation, "Offer them ten times the pay!"
Zoey immediately went to handle it.
Oliver ran to the pile of trash, digging with his bare hands, searching for Jacob.
He knew in his heart that Jacob was not only his son but also Sarah's entire hope. Without Jacob, Sarah probably wouldn't survive either.
The rain poured down, and thunder rumbled.
Amidst the loud noise, a faint sound suddenly appeared.
Sarah heard it and froze.
"Jacob!" she cried and shouted, calling Jacob's name, digging fiercely through the dirty trash.
'Jacob isn't dead,' she reassured herself.
Finally, the trash can was emptied, and Jacob sat inside, his face full of fear, whimpering like a stray kitten, "Mommy! Mommy."
Sarah's hands trembled as she picked Jacob up, holding him tightly in her arms.
Oliver also ran over, his hands trembling as he touched Jacob's face, which was icy cold. He immediately took Jacob into his arms, unbuttoned his shirt, and held Jacob against his chest to warm him.
Jacob's little face was pale, at risk of hypothermia.
"Get in the car! To the hospital!" Oliver shouted.
In the car, Oliver cranked the heater to the max and handed a clean blanket to Sarah. "Take off his clothes, wrap him in this, and give him some water!"
Sarah didn't argue. She held Jacob tight, carefully taking care of him, and kept calling his name, "Jacob! Jacob!"
Jacob's eyes fluttered open; he wanted to call out "Mommy," but he was too weak. It had been so dark, smelly, and cold inside that trash can. He was terrified.
Jacob's eyes slowly closed again.
Sarah sobbed, crying and calling his name, "Jacob, don't sleep! Please, don't sleep."
Late at night, the emergency room was brightly lit.
Jacob's condition was still critical. He had hypothermia, and his lungs had taken in dirty water, causing an infection. Things were looking grim.
Grace, Henry, and Clara had all come.
Grace brought clean clothes for Sarah to change into, but Sarah wasn't in the mood. In the end, Grace had to force her to a room to wash up and change.
The emergency room light stayed on, and the doctor came out to tell Henry that things didn't look good.
Henry stared at him for a few seconds, then made a phone call. "Dr. Smith, it's Henry! There's a baby here with a double lung infection, and it's really serious. You're the expert on this. Can you come over right away? I know it's raining hard, but I'll send a car to get you. It's only a few minutes' drive."
Henry hung up and gave Celeste a few instructions. Celeste immediately went to pick up Dr. Smith.
The doctor's expression relaxed. "It would be great to have Dr. Smith come over and help out."
Henry lifted his chin and said calmly, "The child inside is from the Windsor family."
With Henry's connections, the entire hospital made a concerted effort to save Jacob.
Finally, at 2 AM, Jacob was out of danger and moved to a VIP ward.
Henry, Grace, and Clara left first.
In VIP Ward 1004, Oliver and Sarah stayed with Jacob.
Sarah sat by the bed, staring at Jacob's little face while holding his hand. She was already in poor health, and staying like this was draining what little energy she had left.
At dawn, Olivia came in with a thermos filled with soup she had just made.
Olivia's eyes were filled with tears, and she felt very guilty. She touched Jacob's body repeatedly to make sure he was okay, then turned away and couldn't help but cry again. "It's my fault Jacob suffered! Thank goodness you finally found him. Otherwise, even if I gave my life, it wouldn't be enough to make up for it."
