Chapter 121 Frank, the Baby Is Gone!
That night, Grace stayed over.
She took a bath and wore Juniper's pajamas. They chatted about all sorts of things side by side.
Juniper's voice was soft. "Honestly, I don't care about Frank anymore. He can get married; I have my own child! Grace, I've decided. In two weeks, I'm leaving Evergreen City for a small town. I'll buy a house, open a flower shop, and live with my child."
""It's just that I'll be far from you. But I'll miss you! Will you visit?" Juniper added.
Grace felt a pang of sadness. She nodded. "Of course! At least a few times a year! I'll even give you ten percent of the store's shares to help with the baby! Whether it's a boy or a girl, they'll be beautiful!"
Grace turned and hugged Juniper. "I can't bear to leave you!"
Juniper's heart was heavy too.
They didn't speak anymore, just held each other, waiting for the night to pass.
From that day on, Grace started preparing for the separation.
She bought a small villa in Yew City, about 2,400 square feet, with good amenities and location. She wanted Juniper to be comfortable there.
She also bought lots of baby clothes for Juniper's unborn child, all in soft pinks that Juniper would love, and sent them to Yew City.
Gradually, Grace's anxiety turned into anticipation. She looked forward to the new baby, to watching the child grow up. She wanted to make up for Juniper's unhappy childhood.
Juniper even joked she wouldn't have the baby, but Grace could see she was happy.
On the day Juniper left, Grace went to see her off.
She bought two train tickets, planning to take Juniper to Yew City herself. Juniper laughed, saying she was being overly cautious, that everything had been calm.
In the taxi, Grace gently patted her hand. "Better safe than sorry!"
Juniper laughed. "Alright!"
They hugged for a long time. Juniper's voice was hoarse. "You found someone to look after me there, so don't come for the first two years! We'll meet again when things settle down, and we can be like before."
Grace's eyes filled with tears, and she nodded.
Half an hour later, the taxi stopped at the station, and Juniper got out first.
Grace paid the fare and was about to get out when a loud bang sounded outside. Something whizzed past her and crashed into a pillar.
It was Juniper.
Grace blinked slowly, her eyes filled with tears. She wanted to scream but couldn't. She watched as Juniper fell to the ground, blood flowing from her ear and body.
That wasn't just blood; it was Juniper and Frank's child, the child she longed to give birth to.
Grace stumbled over, cradling Juniper's body. She tried to speak to Juniper, and Juniper tried too, her lips trembling but unable to form words.
She looked at the blood on Grace's fingers, tears bursting from her eyes.
Juniper knew the child was gone. She hadn't expected the Cavendish family to be so ruthless. She wasn't greedy; she just wanted to keep her child. She never intended to use the child to bother the Cavendish family. She didn't even want Frank to know about the child's existence.
Juniper just wanted a family member.
Juniper finally made a sound, her voice shattered. "Grace, why is it so hard? Why do they treat me like this? Why can't I ever have my small wishes fulfilled? I really loved this child. I even thought of a name, Jamie Davis! I wanted him to be happy and lucky all his life."
Her voice grew hoarse, barely a whisper. More blood flowed from her body, staining everything.
Grace held her, her voice trembling.
"Don't overthink! I'll take you to the hospital! Juniper, hold on, I'll take you to the hospital. You'll be okay! You'll be okay, do you hear me?"
The underground parking lot echoed with Grace's heart-wrenching cries.
The surrounding billboards suddenly changed, displaying wedding photos of Frank and Thalia.
It turned out today was the 2nd! It turned out today was the day the Green family and the Cavendish family were getting married.
Juniper's pupils dilated. She reached out, trying to grasp the smiling Frank. She suddenly remembered their last night together, what Frank had whispered in her left ear, but she hadn't heard it.
A streak of blood appeared at the edge of Juniper's lips.
Late at night, outside the hospital's operating room, Grace waited for ten hours.
Finally, the doctor came out and regretfully told her, "Ms. Davis is severely injured. Besides losing the fetus, she is currently in a coma. Her vital signs indicate she might become a vegetative state, but it depends on her willpower. She might wake up within a week, or she might just stay in dreamland forever."
Grace looked up at him, her expression blank.
The child was gone, and Juniper might become a vegetable.
The doctor knew Grace was sad. He softly said, "She'll be moved to the intensive care unit soon. You can see her there, just turn left ahead."
Grace numbly said thank you.
After the doctor left, she looked up slightly, her face full of tears.
As she walked towards the ward, her legs were weak. She held onto the wall, walking down the empty corridor, crying her heart out! Her ears were filled with Juniper's words from that night.
"In half a month, I'll leave Evergreen City and move to a small town. I'll buy a house, open a flower shop, and live with my child."
"It's just that I'll be far from you, but I'll miss you! Will you visit?"
Grace and Juniper didn't get to see the child born, nor did they get to reunite after two years. The child was gone, and Juniper might become a vegetable.
How could Grace accept this!
Grace began to hate herself, for being soft-hearted, for agreeing to let her have the baby. If she had been more ruthless, would Juniper be okay now?
Overwhelmed by immense sorrow, she cried, veins bulging on her forehead.
Footsteps sounded ahead, and Grace looked up to see Frank. He was wearing an expensive suit, looking every bit the groom. He must have come straight from the wedding banquet.
Frank's voice trembled. "How is she?"
