Chapter 218 Dad, I Remember That Dream
Henry was momentarily floored, then his heart started pounding like crazy.
Grace was back! And she was back with the kids!
Noticing Henry's silence, Sawyer's voice got even more excited. "Hey, Ms. Taylor Montague's grown so tall, and Mr. Avery Montague, he's at that age where he's walking. They look awesome, just like you."
Henry, feeling a rush of emotions, blurted out, "Of course my son with Grace looks like me!"
Because of his leg, he only opened the car door but didn't get out. Then he saw Grace.
Grace was loading luggage into the trunk, with Taylor standing next to her. Six-year-old Taylor was cute and tall, and Avery, held by the nanny, was just over a year old. Just like Sawyer said, Avery looked a lot like Henry.
Henry's eyes got misty; this was the first time he really saw Avery.
He hadn't seen Taylor in forever either, and he missed her like crazy.
Grace closed the trunk and was about to get Taylor into the car when she turned and saw Henry.
Time seemed to freeze.
After a bit, Grace held Avery and walked over, with Taylor right behind her.
Henry's hand clenched. When she got closer, his voice was a bit rough. "Didn't you say you'd be back in May? What took so long?"
He looked intently at Avery, their son.
Taylor threw herself into Henry's arms, calling out "Daddy" in her sweet voice, making Henry's eyes water, but he held back. He gently stroked Taylor's little head, feeling the continuation of life.
After a long while, he said softly, "Let me see Avery."
Taylor immediately climbed down. She was pretty strong and took Avery from Grace's arms, placing him in Henry's lap. In a mature tone, she instructed Avery, "Say 'Daddy'."
Avery looked proud, for a long time, he didn't say anything.
Henry was a bit worried and looked at Grace.
Grace knew what he was thinking and said gently, "He's just a bit shy and doesn't like to talk."
Sawyer, standing nearby, couldn't help but say, "Mr. Montague didn't like to talk much when he was little either; he always had a serious face! Ah, genetics are wild!"
Henry glared at him.
Sawyer immediately shut up. He looked at the beautiful Taylor and Avery, feeling uncontrollably happy, and finally turned away to wipe his tears.
Henry ignored him.
At that moment, Taylor said cheerfully, "Daddy, I miss Sherry. Did you give my puppy away?"
Taylor didn't ask Henry why he couldn't walk.
She treated Henry as warmly as before, as if they hadn't been apart, and as if Taylor was still the baby in his arms, still the little girl who lay in his lap reading fairy tales.
Grace had taught her well.
"No, Daddy didn't give her away." Henry held Taylor's slender little arm, his eyes full of love. Then he looked up at Grace. "Come to my place for a meal! Taylor wants to see Sherry."
Grace agreed. She took Avery in her arms, patted Taylor's head, and smiled slightly. "Do you want to ride in Daddy's car? Mommy will take the nanny home first."
Taylor was super happy. She climbed into the car, sat next to Henry, and rested her little head on his shoulder.
Henry felt warmth in his heart. He looked at Grace again and hesitated before asking, "Are we now..."
Grace's expression was gentle and soft. "Didn't we agree? We'll raise Taylor and Avery together. Henry, don't worry, I won't cling to you."
She told him not to worry, and he should have been happy, but his heart felt uneasy.
Grace didn't continue the topic.
She bent slightly to close the car door for Henry. Because of this move, they were close enough for him to catch the milky scent on Avery and the faint perfume on Grace, just like old times. She still loved those floral scents.
That faint fragrance, like a sweet spring breeze, moistened Henry's long-parched soul and stirred something deep inside him.
His eyes deepened, piercing into Grace's soul.
The fancy car door slowly closed, blocking their view of each other. Sawyer, standing nearby, rubbed his hands. "Mrs. Montague, just let me handle the door!"
Sawyer called her Mrs. Montague, and Grace didn't correct him.
Sawyer, being sharp, immediately felt relieved and hopped into the car with great energy.
In the back seat, Taylor chattered non-stop with Henry.
Henry kept looking at her with so much love.
He thought Taylor was too young to get the rough patches of life, but as she talked, she suddenly went quiet, staring at Henry with a dazed look. After a long pause, she suddenly hugged Henry with her small arms and whispered, "Daddy, I remember that dream."
In the dream, Henry lay motionless. And the doctor gave Henry an anesthetic injection; the needle was thick. No matter how she called him, he didn't wake up. She didn't get why his daddy was lying there before.
Now Taylor knew, Henry did it for her.
She didn't cry; she just held Henry tight.
Taylor, in fact, understood everything!
Henry's eyes got misty, and he held his Taylor tightly, the child he had exchanged half his life for. He had never regretted it.
He thought, 'if life could really be exchanged, most parents would be down for that.'
He and Taylor were both lucky to be alive.
The black RV cruised steadily along the highway, with Taylor snuggling in Henry's arms, as if she would never let go.
Sawyer occasionally cracked a few jokes.
Henry called Celeste and asked her to set up the clients at the hotel. Celeste, guessing the reason, nodded. "Mr. Montague, don't worry, I'll take good care of them!"
Celeste hung up the phone and breathed a sigh of relief.
Two hours later, the shiny black RV slowly rolled into the villa, passed through the courtyard, and stopped in the parking lot.
The servant heard the sound and immediately came to open the car door.
Seeing Taylor, she was momentarily stunned.
Henry patted Taylor's head and said softly, "She's Taylor! Grace brought her and Avery back to Evergreen City to settle down."
Outside the car was none other than Mira.
Hearing this, Mira was overjoyed and pulled Taylor over to look at her, exclaiming, "She's grown up! She'll be as pretty as her mom."
Taylor still remembered her and greeted her happily.
Mira's heart melted. She said to Henry, "I must whip up a few more dishes today. I'm happy to see Ms. Taylor Montague! By the way, where are Ms. Grace Montague and Mr. Avery Montague? Why aren't they in the car?"
Henry said calmly, "She took the nanny home! Yes, we should prepare more dishes; there are a few more people for dinner."
Mira was at a loss for words to convey her happiness. At this moment, the caregiver came to help Henry out of the car, and Taylor also helped, being both beautiful and sensible, making Mira love her even more.
A nurse named Anouk Dixon came from the entrance. She was wearing a white coat, tall and curvy, quite beautiful.
Anouk came over, naturally bent down to push the wheelchair, and asked familiarly, "Mr. Montague, weren't you meeting a client? Why did you come back to the villa?"
Then she looked at Taylor. "This is..."
