Chapter 426 He Covets the Mortal World and Desires Power
Without water, he practically wolfed it down.
The moment he swallowed, the pain intensified, but soon it eased considerably.
As the pain subsided, the sparkle returned to his blue eyes. He watched her falling apart, opened the car door, and said in a hoarse voice, "I'll take you home."
"I can drive myself."
"Sarah, listen to me!"
Those words sounded just like when they were newlyweds. He made all the decisions for her, and she didn't have to worry about a thing.
But...it was all just a series of unfortunate events!
Oliver opened the car door and pushed Sarah inside, quickly moving to the other side.
He adjusted the temperature inside the car, telling her to take off her wet clothes.
Sarah hugged herself, her voice faint, "We'll be there soon, it's not necessary."
Oliver didn't insist.
He stepped on the gas, and the white BMW drove slowly through the heavy rain towards the Moore Mansion. The rain was pouring down, so he drove carefully. The white car seemed to pass through gray curtains of water, heading towards another world.
In that world, there were only the two of them, only Oliver and Sarah.
No one else.
No grudges, no hurts, no past.
Sarah's nose was red, and she turned her face away. The car was filled with silence and sadness, along with unspoken love and hate, obsession and resentment.
An hour later, Oliver finally brought Sarah home.
In the afternoon, the sky was completely dark.
Between heaven and earth, a strange and eerie scene unfolded, making people feel scared.
The car slowly came to a stop.
Sarah sat there, not being heartless, and spoke in a low, hoarse voice, "You can take the car back. I'll come to get it in a day."
He said it wasn't necessary.
He got out with an umbrella to shield her from the wind and rain and escorted her to the main house. As they reached the entrance, both of them froze.
The living room was filled with various precious gifts.
Jeremy's family was sitting there having tea, and Matthew and Vaughn were personally accompanying them.
The housekeeper handed Sarah a dry towel to wipe her hair and quietly told her, "They probably heard that Nicole was adopted by Mr. Windsor, so they came early in the morning to discuss the engagement! But what kind of good family discusses an engagement in this weather? They didn't even pick a good day. Besides, you and Mr. Lopez have already broken up."
Sarah listened, feeling numb.
Oliver's gaze fell on Jeremy.
Jeremy was full of vigor, the Lopez family parents were eloquent, and the gifts they brought were rare and sincere. In comparison, Oliver felt so inadequate.
It seemed all he could do was make her cry.
Oliver's Adam's apple moved slightly, and he slowly turned his head to look at Sarah.
Once, he was so domineering, but now he felt so humble.
The Lopez family was discussing an engagement with the woman he loved, and he couldn't say a word. He couldn't show any inappropriate behavior, or it would embarrass Sarah.
Oliver had never felt so weak and powerless.
In the end, he could only nod to everyone and say, "Goodbye."
As he left the Moore Mansion,
He walked past the flower-filled gifts, with Sarah behind him. He seemed to hear the deep resentment in Sarah's heart. If he hadn't been so ruthless back then, they wouldn't be in this situation today.
Yes.
He craved power, wanted fame, and yearned for true love.
But there were not many precious things in this world,
And he wanted them all.
He was too greedy, he lost himself, and he lost Sarah, too.
The rain was heavy,
He didn't drive, and he only had an umbrella in his hand. The pain from the rain hitting his body felt just like Sarah's years of crying and accusations.
Was it too late to love her?
Would he ever hold her again and hear her softly call out, "Oliver..." in his lifetime?
