Chapter 580 Jacob, I'm Pregnant 2
Serafina gently caressed her flat stomach. Jacob's child might be growing inside her—something he'd been eagerly hoping for. How delighted he would be when he learned the news.
Would a child bring them closer as husband and wife? Serafina didn't want her child to follow in her footsteps. She wanted her baby to grow up with both parents' love, enjoying a happy childhood free from endless arguments and constant worry.
Though Jacob didn't love her, she believed he would make a good father.
Suspecting pregnancy, Serafina had become cautious. Usually fond of feminine dresses, stockings, and high heels, she had switched to flat shoes for safety, and even her coat was comfortably loose.
After dressing, she went downstairs for breakfast.
In the dining room, a servant looked up with a smile as she heard footsteps. "Good morning, Mrs. Windsor! What would you like for breakfast today?"
Serafina hung her coat on the chair back. "A bowl of oatmeal, please," she replied with a smile.
The servant looked surprised. "You don't usually have oatmeal in the morning, Mrs. Windsor. What made you change your mind today?"
Serafina smiled bashfully. Perhaps due to the pregnancy, her appetite had increased dramatically—she could have eaten two bowls.
But she knew pregnancy was no excuse to abandon dietary control. Like most women, she valued her appearance and didn't want to gain too much weight.
Soon, the servant brought over a bowl of steaming oatmeal. "It's made with oats from Harmony City—absolutely delicious!" she said. "Please try it, Mrs. Windsor."
Serafina took a small bite and said softly, "It tastes wonderful."
The servant rubbed her hands together. "If you like it, Mrs. Windsor, I can make it again tomorrow. We still have plenty of oats in the refrigerator."
Serafina agreed with a smile. She ate the entire bowl with perfect manners, then checked the time. Finding it suitable, she took her coat and announced she was going out.
The household staff assumed she was meeting friends and simply asked, "Will you be back for lunch, Mrs. Windsor?"
After a moment's thought, Serafina replied, "Probably not."
She planned to visit the hospital, and if the pregnancy test was positive, she wanted to surprise Jacob at the Windsor Group by telling him he was going to be a father.
Elton, the young driver, took her to the hospital. Assuming she was feeling unwell, he was especially gentle as he opened the car door. "Mind your head, Mrs. Windsor."
Serafina settled into the car, feeling nervous. She had no experience with pregnancy and wasn't certain she had conceived.
Half an hour later, they arrived at the Montague Group's hospital.
Elton opened the rear door and asked softly, "If you're not feeling well, Mrs. Windsor, let me help you with the registration."
Serafina smiled faintly. "It's just a routine check-up. You can wait for me here."
Elton nodded. "As you wish."
Serafina went to the outpatient department alone and made an appointment with a renowned obstetrician. Being early in the new year, the hospital wasn't crowded, and her turn came quickly. After the consultation, the doctor ordered blood tests.
Serafina paid the fee and had her blood drawn. The results came back promptly—she was five weeks pregnant.
She stared at the report, stunned. Despite her less-than-ideal marriage to Jacob, this child was conceived with hope, and her heart filled with anticipation. She didn't realize how tender her expression had become.
"Mrs. Windsor, I've prescribed some folic acid for you. Remember to take it daily," the doctor advised. "Come back for a check-up at eight weeks—we should be able to hear the baby's heartbeat by then."
Serafina instinctively touched her abdomen.
As she was about to leave with her medication, footsteps approached from behind, followed by a familiar voice: "Serafina."
She turned to see Taylor, the administrator of the Montague Group's hospital. Taylor had business in the obstetrics department and happened to encounter Serafina. Though they weren't particularly close, they were connected through family ties and naturally exchanged greetings.
Taylor approached in her white coat. "Not feeling well?" she asked, naturally taking the bag from Serafina's hand. After a quick glance, she opened it fully and was delighted for the newlyweds. "You're pregnant! Why didn't Jacob come with you? That's rather thoughtless of him."
Serafina quickly explained, "I only had symptoms this morning. He doesn't know yet."
Taylor smiled. "Then hurry and share the good news. Jacob will be thrilled."
Serafina blushed slightly.
For such joyous news, Taylor didn't want to interfere, believing Serafina should tell Jacob personally to strengthen their bond. Having business to attend to, she soon bid Serafina goodbye.
Now certain of her pregnancy, Serafina became even more careful. Settling into the black sedan, she instructed Elton, "Let's go to the Windsor Group."
While turning the steering wheel, Elton joked, "You and Mr. Windsor seem to be getting along well lately. Will you be dining with him at the office?"
Serafina smiled softly. "I suppose so."
She couldn't share the intimate details of her relationship with Jacob with Elton. As the car moved forward, she held the test results, her emotions in turmoil. Becoming a mother for the first time was complex, but she knew she would give this child all her love.
Fifteen minutes later, the gleaming sedan stopped in front of the Windsor Group building.
Serafina told Elton he could leave, as she would return with Jacob in the afternoon. Elton, not wanting to intrude on their private time, drove away after Serafina entered the building.
The Windsor Group had published Jacob's wedding photos, so the receptionist recognized Serafina immediately and hurried to greet her. "Mrs. Windsor, let me escort you upstairs. Mr. Windsor should be in a meeting right now."
Serafina politely declined. "I can find my way, thank you."
The receptionist smiled. "Of course. I'll call Anya to let her know you're here."
Anya, Jacob's chief secretary, would naturally be the one to receive Serafina, as protocol demanded. The receptionist was respectful not only because Serafina was Mrs. Windsor but also because she was known for her approachability and lack of arrogance.
Soon, Anya came down to greet her. Upon seeing Serafina, she looked surprised and apologetic. "What unfortunate timing—Mr. Windsor had a lunch meeting and just took the private elevator to the parking garage. Shall I call him for you?"
Serafina felt a pang of disappointment. "Is it an important engagement?" she asked.
Anya nodded. "Quite important, yes."
After careful consideration, Serafina said, "I'll return to the villa then. When Jacob returns, please ask him to call me. Tell him I have important news for him."
Anya was curious but knew better than to pry into Jacob's personal affairs. She arranged for a car to take Serafina home.
Back at the villa, Serafina took a short nap. When she woke, it was already two in the afternoon, and she felt hungry.
After freshening up, she planned to go downstairs for something to eat, but when she used the bathroom, she noticed a small bloom of bright blood in the toilet bowl, crimson threads spreading through the clear water.
Serafina stared in shock, instinctively recognizing the signs of a threatened miscarriage. But she hadn't even told Jacob yet—they hadn't had the chance to savor the joy of becoming parents. Was she going to lose this baby?
She didn't want to lose her child!
Steadying herself against the sink, she carefully stood and adjusted her clothes. She called out to the servants downstairs: "Tell Elton to prepare the car!"
Suddenly, thunder cracked outside. The sky had grown dark.
Then, all the lights in the villa went out. The sounds of startled cars rose from outside, one after another, making it impossible for anyone downstairs to hear her call.
Serafina reached for her phone and dialed Jacob's number. His business meeting should be over by now. She wanted Jacob to rush back and take her to the hospital, or perhaps bring a skilled doctor to the house—maybe the baby could still be saved.
The call connected.
Jacob's deep voice came through, "Calling me at this hour—is something wrong?"
