Chapter 337 Oliver, I Don't Love You Anymore

Sarah suddenly lost it. When she looked at Oliver, all that innocence was gone, replaced by pure bitterness. "Oliver, I've lost everything! My brother can't stay in Evergreen City; he's done for. You think I'm punishing you? No, Oliver, I'm paying you back! Jacob's life and mine, is that enough? Why did you let me live?"

"Why should I keep going? I have no faith left, Oliver. Do you even know what it's like to have your true feelings stomped on? To feel like you're walking on thin ice every single day? You always talk about prison, but all these years in our marriage, I've felt like the one who's been locked up by you."

"In that first year in Vesper City, because I loved you, I lived by your moods. If you smiled at me, I'd be on cloud nine. If you were stern, I'd be heartbroken and wonder what I did wrong. That love slowly suffocated me!"

"Later, I realized it wasn't about your bad mood or me doing something wrong. It was because you didn't love me, because you had other women! I thought I was your everything, but I was just one of many. The other women at least got something out of being with you, but I was just a tool for repayment."

"What were you thinking every time you sweet-talked me? You must've thought, 'She's so naive and foolish!'"

"Gradually, you started coming home less and less. When you did come home, it was just to satisfy your physical needs. I could tell you didn't love me! Back then, I was young and naive. I wanted to know what it felt like to be truly loved, so I accepted Lester. We rode bikes on campus, ate street food together. I didn't fall for him, but I felt relaxed with him because we were equals, unlike with you, where I felt crushed every time we were together!"

Oliver's face darkened. Lester was like a thorn in his side.

Sarah's thin face was buried in the soft pillow as she muttered, "Oliver, you had so many women around you, but when you found out I was seeing Lester, you cruelly broke his hand. Do you know how much that scene scarred me? If love could disappear, it happened at that moment."

"Maybe I really went mad, or maybe I had a sliver of sanity left! Because only by going mad could I keep living in your world. When I found out the truth, I couldn't reconcile with myself. I couldn't accept that I had loved someone like you so deeply! Without Jacob, I would've lost the will to live long ago."

Sarah had said too much in one breath.

She started coughing violently, the veins on her forehead bulging. She covered her mouth and nose tightly with her hand, afraid of disturbing Jacob next door.

She could die at any moment.

Oliver removed her hand and reached out to her chest, gently patting it. "Stop talking!"

Jacob next door still heard it. He might have been scared and kept calling out, "Mommy."

Olivia picked Jacob up, trying to comfort him even though her heart felt heavy.

But Jacob seemed to sense Sarah's despair and kept crying loudly. Just then, a torrential downpour started outside the window.

The rain came down in sheets.

Sarah coughed again, spitting blood onto the white bed sheet, making her face look even paler. She looked like she could be blown away by the wind.

"I'll call the doctor!" Oliver got up but was stopped by Sarah. Her fingers were thin but unusually strong at that moment. Her pupils were dilated, and her gaze was unfocused.

Sarah's cancer had spread to her eyes; she couldn't see anymore.

It came suddenly, but she accepted it calmly.

A tear fell lightly on Oliver's hand.

Sarah gave him a faint smile and mouthed, "Oliver, I don't love you anymore because loving you is too painful, waiting too long."

Three years ago, Sarah and Oliver first met in Evergreen City.

That year, Sarah was 21, well-protected by Dylan.

She was still studying at Evergreen City ArtScape Academy.

Dylan was always busy, his life consumed by work. Later, his vacations were mostly spent traveling to Vesper City because he had fallen for a woman he shouldn't have—Grace. As a result, he neglected Sarah.

Sarah lived alone in a 2,000-square-foot apartment with two servants taking care of her.

Her clothes were all international brands, personally selected by Dylan. Every holiday, Dylan would send her gifts.

Sarah's walk-in closet was 400 square feet, with several rows of safes filled with expensive jewelry from Dylan, but she didn't like wearing them. She always went out without makeup.

At 21, with long curly hair and a beautiful face, she was already stunning.

Dylan had assigned her a driver and a luxury car worth millions of dollars, but Sarah never wanted to use it. She preferred taking the bus to school and going home with her classmates after school.

She was too lonely. She wanted friends.

Sarah met Oliver one evening, with the sky painted in hues of red from the setting sun.

The bus she was on collided with a turning truck with a bang, and it was knocked several feet away, flipping over on the roadside.

Fortunately, Sarah only had minor scrapes, but the people on the bus weren't so lucky. Over ten were seriously injured, including one of Sarah's classmates, Daniela Price.

The ambulance arrived, but there were too many people, and they were overwhelmed.

Sarah knelt beside Daniela, crying and at a loss. She begged the passing medical staff to save her classmate, but they said the more seriously injured needed to be treated first.

"But she has a congenital heart condition," Sarah shouted loudly, but the scene was too chaotic, and her voice was drowned out.

At that moment, a pair of leather shoes stepped into her view, followed by a deep, pleasant male voice, "I'll take her to the hospital. Follow me!"
