Chapter 350 So Oliver, Let's Get a Divorce
After what felt like forever, Sarah finally picked up the phone.
Neither of them said a word for a long time. All you could hear was their shallow breathing. They used to be a couple, but now even the sound of each other's breath felt strange.
Oliver broke the silence, "How are you holding up?"
The night was cool, and Sarah replied softly in Fronce's language, "I think Zoey already told you. I'm fine. I had Lester's cornea transplanted, so I can see again. But Lester jumped off a building, and Alyssa killed herself right after. Next time we meet, you'll see Lester's cornea in my eyes. I bet you don't want to see that."
"So, Oliver, let's get a divorce. Without the marriage, you won't have to feel guilty about Ms. Johnson anymore. You can be with her, even marry her if you want."
Sarah's foreign language was not just fluent but perfectly accented.
On the other end, Oliver's fingers tightened, his voice strained, "You know Fronce's language."
Oliver remembered the day Stephen made him choose between Ellie and Sarah. Stephen thought Oliver would pick Sarah, but Oliver figured Sarah could wait, so he chose Ellie.
Oliver told Stephen his choice in Fronce's language, thinking Sarah wouldn't understand. He kept caring for her, not knowing she actually did understand.
How did Sarah feel when she heard his decision?
Sarah, probably guessing his thoughts, smiled, "Yeah, I know Fronce's language! If I didn't, I wouldn't have known that Ellie was always your priority. I remember Stephen saying I might go blind anytime, but you still chose her without a second thought. If you hadn't, Lester wouldn't have died, Alyssa wouldn't have died, and their kid wouldn't be an orphan!"
Sarah stayed calm the whole time.
After everything, she had become indifferent. An unfaithful husband didn't matter to her anymore. What she cared about were Jacob and Nicole .
God had given her a second chance. With Lester's eyes, she would watch Nicole grow up for Lester and Alyssa. She wasn't the weak, naive girl anymore.
She brought up the divorce again, telling him not to threaten her with evidence anymore. At most, Dylan would go to jail.
Sarah said a lot, but Oliver seemed calm. After a long pause, he spoke softly, "I won't divorce you. And I'll find another suitable cornea transplant for you."
Then he hung up.
They'd been married for years, and Sarah knew him well. She knew he couldn't stand the idea of Lester's cornea in her eyes.
But Sarah wanting a divorce? No way!
The phone slipped from Sarah's hand. The dim light above made her face look even paler. She could hardly believe what she had heard. Because he hated her eyes, he wanted her to undergo another transplant.
Sarah gave a bitter smile. Years ago, she fell for Oliver. Was it a blessing or a tragedy for her?
She slowly lowered her head and pressed her cheek against Nicole's.
The ward room door opened, and Olivia walked in with the doctor. "She's got a bit of a fever," Olivia said, "Can you check if it's a cold or if she's just been crying too much?"
The doctor took out a stethoscope and listened carefully.
After a while, he put it away, "It should be a cold with a bit of pneumonia, but it's not serious. Some medication will do."
Olivia got very nervous when she heard it was pneumonia.
She asked cautiously, "Does she need treatment?"
The doctor smiled, "It's not that serious."
He knew Nicole's background and gently touched her little face. He said to Sarah, "Mrs. Windsor, if possible, try to feed her some breast milk. It will boost the baby's immunity."
Sarah nodded and softly agreed. She picked up Nicole and gently soothed her. The doctor, with a touch of moisture in his eyes, cleared his throat to cover it up, "I'll go write the prescription now."
Sarah asked Olivia to follow and get the medicine.
With careful care, Nicole's health improved. Sarah asked Zoey to buy healthy breast milk at a high price and fed Nicole every day. After half a month, Nicole indeed became chubby and fair.
At night, the two children slept together.
Olivia sat nearby, watching with joy, chatting with Sarah about everyday things, "You see, these two kids are looking more and more alike. Anyone who doesn't know would think they are siblings."
Sarah leaned against the headboard, knitting a small piece of clothing. It was a light pink one, specially knitted for Nicole.
From now on, whatever Jacob had, she would prepare the same for Nicole. She wanted to give Nicole all the warmth, so she wouldn't feel lonely or helpless.
After a while, Olivia leaned over, "The pink looks really nice! When Nicole grows up, she'll definitely be a beautiful girl."
Sarah said gently, "I only wish for her to be healthy and happy."
Olivia nodded in agreement.
In the next few days, they continued to be stuck in the hospital.
Sarah seemed resigned, but since the last time, she refused to answer Oliver's calls. Even when Zoey transferred the calls, she wouldn't take them. She still stayed by Oliver's side, but she cut off contact with him.
She no longer wanted to acknowledge that she was his wife.
