Chapter 134 The Same Scene, Just a Different Woman
Sunday afternoon, there was a private banquet on the villa's lawn.
Grace invited a few friends, including Amara, who brought Brent from Vesper City.
Brent was already impressed by Grace's beauty and now, seeing her organize the banquet, he was even more taken by her talent. Holding a glass of champagne, he said, "I didn't expect you to be Henry's wife, and remarried too! Looks like I missed out twice."
Brent's straightforwardness wasn't annoying.
Grace smiled. "Mr. Morgan, you're too kind."
Brent noticed Grace's marriage seemed unhappy. Henry was busy talking business with others, while Esme clung to his arm, looking like the hostess.
Brent turned back to Grace and said, "My offer at Mrs. Young's banquet still stands. If you ever want to come to Vesper City, I'd be happy to help."
Grace felt touched. "Thank you, Mr. Morgan. If I ever go to Vesper City, I'll definitely reach out."
Her response made Brent feel even more regretful.
Just then, a commotion broke out, mixed with a woman's cries of pain. As the hostess, Grace couldn't ignore it. She put down her glass and walked over.
She saw Esme in Henry's arms, looking pained.
Esme cried out, "Henry, it hurts so much! Will you take me to the hospital? I must have eaten something bad!"
Henry turned and saw Grace.
Grace watched quietly. This scene was all too familiar; just over half a year ago, Elodie had done the same thing, showing off to her.
Same scene, different woman.
Henry always said he liked her, wanted a good life with her, but never gave her security. He used different women to test and torment her.
Henry resented her past feelings for Lucas, but whose fault was that?
Grace didn't want to discuss it anymore.
She didn't expose Esme's trick; she believed Henry saw through it too. She was just waiting for his decision. If Henry took Esme away now, it would confirm their relationship and humiliate Grace.
As Grace looked at Henry, he looked back at her.
She waited for his decision, and he waited for her to bow her head.
Grace let Esme lean on him, let him walk towards Esme. He thought, 'even if he and Esme had a physical relationship, she probably wouldn't care, just find him dirty.'
Henry didn't wait for Grace to bow her head.
In this marriage, she was too tired to bow her head, too tired to indulge him.
"It hurts so much! Henry, don't blame Grace! She surely didn't do it on purpose," Esme said, trying to replace Grace.
These days, Henry had been close to her, and she believed she meant more to him than Grace. She thought men always loved the new and loathed the old.
Henry looked down at Esme, then gently wrapped his arm around her waist and picked her up, walking past Grace.
His tone was icy, "You see the guests out later."
Despite the sunny spring afternoon, Grace felt no warmth. Henry had humiliated her in front of everyone. She was relieved she hadn't brought Juniper, or she might have confronted Henry right there.
Whispers filled the air.
Everyone was quietly discussing that Grace, as Mrs. Montague, wouldn't last long. Henry's choice was clear.
Amara rushed over, looking indignant. "Esme is too much! She doesn't even care about her reputation for a married man!"
Grace smiled bitterly. "It's not just her fault. If Henry didn't give her the chance, she wouldn't be able to get close."
Amara felt sorry for her.
She tried to comfort Grace, "I'll talk to her parents. And Grace, I'm not defending Henry, but I can see his heart is still with you. Men are like that; if they don't get warmth at home, they seek it elsewhere. You've been cold to him because of your grievances, and he's hurting too."
Grace slightly raised her head.
Amara's voice softened, "You two have been together since you were young. Despite the ups and downs, there's still love. Unlike me and Caleb—he's beyond saving. He even had a son with another woman, and I was kept in the dark until now."
Grace was stunned.
Esme ended up in the hospital.
But instead of Henry, Felix showed up.
When Felix walked into the ward, his face was dark. He pulled off the blanket covering Esme, revealing she wasn't in a hospital gown but a sexy nightdress.
Felix's face turned completely dark. "Esme, do you have any shame? Are all the men in the world dead that you have to throw yourself at him? Do you think he likes you? You're just a tool he uses to anger Grace. This tool could be you or any other woman. If he really liked you, he wouldn't avoid touching you, and you wouldn't have to do such worthless things! Put on your clothes and stop embarrassing yourself!"
Esme, usually so cold and elegant, was now kneeling on the bed, crying and begging Felix, "Felix, I have real feelings for him! Please don't stop me! He will take responsibility for this relationship!"
"Take responsibility for what?"
Felix snapped, "If he marries you, I'll eat shit tomorrow! You're so stupid."
Esme cried softly, hugging Felix's leg and begging continuously.
Outside the VIP ward, Henry leaned against the opposite wall, his expression indifferent, leisurely smoking.
Felix was right; he didn't like Esme.
But Esme's gaze at him, cautious yet fervent, was very much like Grace's in the past. Even her current crying looked exactly like Grace's back then.
There were so many women who wanted to be with him.
Only Grace was indifferent to him!
