Chapter 419 Oliver is Full of Treasures 1
The doctor said sternly, "If you're not a relative, the chances of a match are zero."
"Let's try anyway!" Oliver looked at Sarah.
Sarah murmured, "I'll try too."
The Vaughns also expressed their willingness to be tested. Even though Nicole wasn't biologically part of the Moore family, Sarah considered her as her own child, making her a Moore in their eyes.
In the end, even Matthew and Aaron got tested.
The results would take three days.
The doctor informed them that Nicole's condition couldn't wait. The slim hope they had meant they needed to head to Vesper City immediately to find Nicole's direct relatives for a match.
Night fell.
The rain was relentless.
Sarah stood by the floor-to-ceiling window in the hospital room, watching the rain soak the withered banana leaves outside. A thin layer of mist formed on the glass, and she absentmindedly traced patterns with her slender fingers.
She had contacted the Mitchell family.
They wanted to meet Oliver.
The past weighed heavily on Sarah's heart, suffocating her.
By Nicole's bedside, Matthew personally took care of her.
Holding Nicole's hand, he spoke to Sarah, "Once she's better, let's change her last name to Moore. She'll have my last name and live a long, strong life."
Sarah nodded softly, but tears streamed down her face.
She was deeply worried.
She wasn't afraid of the Mitchell family's difficulties; she was worried they wouldn't be a match for Nicole. What would they do then?
She couldn't sleep at night.
In just a week, she had lost a lot of weight.
Matthew felt for her. He came over and patted her shoulder. "Since we're going to Vesper City, you should go home and pack tonight. Claire and I will stay here. I'll have Nicholas go with you so that Jeremy can be at ease. Men can be a bit particular."
Sarah nodded. "He'll be back in the morning. I'll talk to him then."
Matthew patted her shoulder lovingly. "Go home and rest well. I'll handle everything."
Sarah choked out, "Dad."
The rain finally eased.
In the early hours, Sarah walked out of the hospital room. Across the empty public area stood a tall figure, silently gazing out the window into the night.
It was Oliver.
Hearing footsteps, he slowly turned around, his eyes filled with an inescapable gloom.
After a long pause, Oliver's hoarse voice broke the silence. "I'll go to Vesper City with you. No matter what conditions they set, I'll agree to them."
Sarah stood there, her gaze sorrowful.
Nicole was a part of their past, a testament to their most tumultuous marriage.
The night grew deeper.
The love and pain of the past seemed to awaken all at once, causing unbearable heartache.
Oliver suddenly clutched his side.
At ten in the morning, Sarah met with Jeremy.
Jeremy had flown back from Crystal City.
Sarah sincerely discussed Nicole's condition with him, explaining that she needed to go to Vesper City with Oliver, and Nicholas would accompany them.
She knew Jeremy wouldn't be happy.
Stirring her coffee, she spoke softly, "If you have time, you can come too. Jeremy, my past with him is over. I won't cross any lines. Trust me."
Jeremy was indeed concerned.
Oliver had been too dazzling in the past, and many women chased after him. Even now, despite his bankruptcy, he was still popular among women.
Jeremy feared their old feelings might rekindle over a few days and nights.
He grasped Sarah's hand, speaking lowly, "The work at the office will be done in a month. I'll go to Vesper City with you then, okay? Nicholas is too gentle; I don't feel comfortable."
Sarah quickly responded, "Nicole can't wait!"
"The doctor said the surgery needs to happen as soon as possible."
Jeremy frowned. "I really can't leave the office right now! Sarah, listen to me, don't get too attached to that child. She's not your biological daughter."
Sarah felt a chill run through her.
She hadn't expected Jeremy to say such a thing.
Her lips moved as if to say something, but she ultimately decided it wasn't worth explaining. She withdrew her hand and said softly, "Let's break up. We're not right for each other."
She stood up to leave.
Jeremy was stunned for a moment, then got up to chase after her.
He grabbed her hand again.
In his desperation, he spoke his true feelings. "I'm not wrong! I've always been the one compromising. Even though we've both been married before, I don't have kids holding me back, but you have two! Sarah, if you're smart, you'll know what to choose."
Sarah calmly replied, "I choose to break up."
Jeremy's face turned cold. "Sarah, don't regret this."
Sarah shook off his hand and quickly walked to her car, opened the door and got in.
Upon sitting in the car, her chest heaved.
After all, they had been together for six months. To say she didn't care at all would be a lie, but she knew Jeremy wasn't the right person for her.
After a while, she gently pressed the gas pedal and drove away.
When she returned to the Moore Mansion, the family already knew about her breakup with Jeremy. But with Nicole's illness, no one brought it up.
At noon, Sarah checked her luggage and passport, preparing to leave.
Isabella walked in.
She helped check everything carefully and then said gently, "The Lopez family called before lunch to confirm if you really wanted to break up. They sounded quite arrogant, so I made the decision to reject their overtures on your behalf... Sarah, I support your decision! Even though Jeremy seemed perfect in many ways and you got along well, a man's true character shows in critical moments. If he doesn't genuinely care for Nicole, how can you have a good life together? It's better to end it early."
Sarah nodded, softly agreeing.
Isabella couldn't help but probe further, "What about Oliver? He seems to be acting like Nicole's real dad."
Sarah was silent for a moment.
She said, "Those who hurt others will hurt themselves. There's no future for us."
Isabella offered encouragement, "Right now, Nicole is the most important. If I didn't have so many household responsibilities and Dad's health wasn't so poor, I would definitely go to Vesper City with you."
Sarah was deeply moved by her support.
She tightly held Isabella's hand and said, "I'll be back as soon as I can."
Outside the bedroom, Nicholas's voice called out, "Sarah, are you ready? The car's downstairs."
Sarah smiled at Isabella and replied, "Coming!"
An hour later, they met Oliver at the airport and flew directly to Vesper City.
By the time they reached the hotel, night had fallen.
As the receptionist handed them their room keys, she wished them a "Happy New Year," reminding them that today was New Year's Day.
In the elevator, the three of them were silent.
As the numbers neared the 22nd floor, Oliver suddenly spoke, "Let's have dinner together. We can celebrate the New Year."
Sarah immediately declined, "There's no need."
But Nicholas interjected, "We need to eat anyway. Besides, we have things to discuss. We might as well talk over dinner instead of scheduling another time."
Sarah looked at Nicholas.
Her gaze was warm, making Oliver feel a twinge of jealousy.
He stared intently at Sarah, waiting for her decision.
After a long pause, she didn't say anything.
He knew she had agreed.
At that moment, the elevator dinged, and the doors opened.
Nicholas stepped out first with his luggage.
Sarah was about to follow when Oliver quickly grabbed her hand and pulled her back into the elevator. His tall frame blocked the view from outside.
He looked down at her with deep eyes, his Adam's apple bobbing.
He lowered his voice, "Did you break up with him?"
