Chapter 127 Let's Have a Child the Year After Next!

After they made love, both went quiet.

Maybe it was because they weren't married anymore, or maybe it had just been too long, but Grace and Henry felt uneasy.

Grace got dressed and said softly, "I feel sticky. I need a shower."

The mood got even more awkward.

Henry had rushed and didn't use a condom. It was more comfortable for him, but now Grace had to clean up.

Henry cleared his throat. "I'll wait outside." He left, thinking the cleaning staff would handle the mess tomorrow.

He didn't care, but Grace did.

She changed the sheets, bagged the dirty ones, labeled them, and knew Celeste would send them for washing. Then she took a shower.

The warm water reminded her of their recent intimacy.

Henry had been gentler, maybe trying to outdo Lucas. But for Grace, it didn't matter anymore. Besides sex, there was nothing left between them.

After her shower, she put on the dress she had worn when she arrived.

Henry was smoking on the sofa, looking elegant with a cigarette between his fingers.

Hearing the door, he looked at her.

He tossed his suit jacket to her. "Put this on. I'll take you back to the hospital."

Grace didn't argue.

In the car, Henry asked, "Want to grab something to eat?"

Grace, tired from his advances, shook her head. "The hospital has a cafeteria. I can eat there. Can you stop by a pharmacy? I need some medicine."

Henry gently stroked the steering wheel. "Morning-after pill?"

Grace nodded, feeling uneasy.

Henry looked at her calm face.

After a while, he said softly, "Grace, I don't know how you see our relationship now. Maybe you think I'm not serious, that we're just fooling around. But I want more than just fun; I want marriage. We need to get married."

He held her hand, interlocking their fingers.

His voice softened. "We've been married for years; we should have had a child by now. It's not too late to start."

Grace was taken aback. Her throat tightened. "Are you saying we won't use contraception and start trying for a baby?"

Henry touched her face tenderly. "Grace, will you have a child with me?"

Grace leaned back, her heart pounding.

They were back to square one. This time, besides marriage, she'd have a child, binding her to Henry for life.

Grace stopped resisting. She looked out at the dark night and said softly, "Juniper hasn't woken up yet, and the shop is waiting to open. Henry, let's have a child the year after next."

What was Grace thinking?

She knew Henry still had contact with Elodie, that he had even flown abroad once. She knew the past wounds were still there, and she no longer loved him, yet she agreed to have a child with him against her will.

She thought living like Amara wouldn't be so bad.

She'd have a career, a child, and didn't mind a husband with a mistress. Turning a blind eye, a lifetime would pass.

Grace agreed to have a child, and Henry's heart softened. He kissed her. "Grace, I'll be a good father."

On the way to the hospital, Grace kept looking out the window. She didn't want Henry to see her tears or know how much she resisted him.

Grace returned to the hospital and stayed up all night, sitting silently.

In the cold night, she just wanted to be with Juniper. She held Juniper's hand and talked a lot, believing Juniper could hear her and would wake up.

At dawn, Juniper was still lying quietly.

Grace buried her face in Juniper's palm and murmured, "Juniper, wake up! No one will bully you anymore. You can live proudly and have a child."

"Wake up, please! Let me know this is all worth it!" she cried.

The hopeless waiting was agonizing.

In the morning, the doctor regretfully said the situation was dire. If Juniper didn't wake up in the next four hours, she might never wake up and could become vegetative forever.

Grace was in so much pain she couldn't breathe. She ran to the bathroom, holding onto the sink and retching violently until she was vomiting bile, until she was so weak she collapsed against the wall.

She slowly curled up, covering her face and muttering, "Juniper! Juniper!"

It was incredibly sad.

In the ward, the monitor connected to Juniper's finger started to show some activity, a faint sound, and then Juniper's finger twitched slightly.

'Is Grace crying? Don't cry! Grace, don't cry. I'll do a flip for you, okay?' Juniper struggled to whisper in her mind.

"Grace, Grace..." Juniper softly called her, over and over.

Even in her coma, she could feel Grace's sadness and despair. Maybe she had wanted to leave this world, to leave this suffering, but she still cared about Grace.

The doctor was stunned, then secretly wiped away a tear.

In fact, those four hours were just to comfort Grace. Based on his professional judgment, Juniper shouldn't have woken up, but now she had miraculously woken up.

Grace vaguely heard Juniper calling her.

She ran out, holding onto the wall, and met Juniper's slowly opening eyes. Her lips trembled, and her voice shook, "Juniper, Juniper."

Grace cried and laughed. "You finally woke up! You scared me so much!"

Clutching Juniper in a tight embrace, she sobbed, "You terrified me! I thought you wouldn't be conscious again! Juniper, you can't leave me again, do you understand?"

Juniper stared at the ceiling, her fingers gently caressing her abdomen, filled with longing.

Grace started crying again, "Juniper."

But Juniper gave her a faint smile and slowly said, "Don't be sad for me. The baby is gone, but I still have you! Grace, I heard you crying just now!"

Tears streamed from Juniper's eyes. "Silly, I'm back, aren't I?"

Grace held back her tears and kept nodding, "Yes! You're back! We still have so many things to do together, so many places we haven't been! Are you hungry? I'll get you something to eat! You've been lying here for days."

Juniper stared at her. "You've lost weight!"

At that moment, a nurse came in and softly said to Grace, "Mrs. Montague, Mr. Montague sent over two breakfasts. I put them on the table."

Juniper looked at Grace, her lips trembling, and after a while, she finally spoke, "Why did she call you Mrs. Montague? Grace, tell me, why did she call you Mrs. Montague?"

Grace didn't want to reveal the deal. She held Juniper's hand and softly said, "I got back together with him! Juniper, you know, I've liked him since I was a teenager."

Tears streamed uncontrollably from Juniper's eyes, increasing in intensity, unable to stop.

Her life was exchanged by Grace with her own! How could this be! How could it be worth it?
