Chapter 246 It's None of My Business! As Long as You Like It
In the evening, a sleek silver Rolls-Royce rolled up to the villa and parked right in front of the house.
Henry had been waiting for a bit. He was in a wheelchair, rocking a white shirt and a dark gray wool coat. The twilight made him look all elegant and handsome.
The Rolls-Royce door swung open, and Taylor was the first to hop out.
As soon as she was out, she practically launched herself into Henry's arms, like a little puppy.
Henry patted Taylor's head, but his eyes narrowed a bit. A young guy stepped out from the driver's seat, dressed sharp in business attire. He looked way too polished to be just a driver, but Grace had him driving her car.
Right then, Grace got out of the car holding Avery.
She caught onto Henry's thoughts and introduced him, "Ivan Baker, my personal assistant."
"Hello, I'm Henry. Ms. Windsor's ex-husband," Henry said, trying to sound all cool.
After the small talk, when they were alone, Henry glanced at Ivan and whispered to Grace, "Isn't he a bit too young to be an assistant? If you need one, I can get you a couple of experienced ones from the Montague Group."
Grace shot back, "Whether he's young or not has nothing to do with you, right?"
Henry felt a sting and nodded. "Yeah, you're right. It's none of my business. As long as you're happy."
Then he asked, "What personal matter needs a few days? Going on a trip?"
Henry's questions were getting a bit too nosy. Grace didn't bother to answer. She took down the kids' luggage, gave the nanny some instructions, and after everything was sorted, she finally told Henry, "I'm going to Dawnstar."
Zoey had accidentally mentioned on the phone that Oliver had been spending time in Dawnstar with Sarah for a while.
Grace decided to go check it out.
Henry didn't ask any more questions. He just looked at her gentle face and said softly, "It's a nice place! You can enjoy the hot springs when you have time. Remember to come back early. The kids will miss you."
Just as Grace felt something different about Henry and was about to say something, Assistant Ivan walked over and said softly, "Ms. Windsor, everything's set! Shall we head out now?" He was super polite.
Grace valued Ivan a lot, so she nodded. "Alright! Let's go!"
She then hugged the kids one by one, giving Taylor an extra kiss. "Listen to your dad, okay?"
Taylor nodded obediently.
When Grace looked at Henry, he was leaning back in his wheelchair. A sliver of twilight hit his face, adding a touch of depth. His tone was a bit reserved as he said, "When you come back, I have something to tell you."
"What's that?" Grace asked.
Henry's gaze was indifferent. "I'll tell you when you get back! If you miss the kids, just call me."
Ivan glanced at Grace. Once they were in the car, he casually remarked while driving, "Ms. Windsor, you and Mr. Montague seem to have a good relationship! It's rare for divorced couples to get along so well."
Grace didn't respond. She leaned back against the leather seat, thinking about what Henry had said and how he seemed different just now.
What was different? She couldn't figure it out, so she stopped thinking about it altogether.
Inside the villa, it was lively and bustling with two little kids.
For dinner, the kitchen maid whipped up several extra dishes, all of which Taylor and Avery loved. Taylor had been well-taught; not only did she take care of Avery, but she also helped Henry.
Then, Taylor noticed something odd—Henry was eating with his right hand. Wasn't his right hand supposed to be immobile?
Six-year-old Taylor hid her surprise well. She kept her head down and ate, feeling so happy that she ate a lot and even gave Avery two pieces of delicious fatty meat.
Cool Avery wrinkled his nose and said, "I hate fatty meat!"
After dinner, Henry took the kids upstairs. Avery played with toys on the carpet, while Taylor did her homework seriously, with Henry guiding her.
Henry, a graduate of a prestigious school, was pretty knowledgeable. Taylor admired him more and more, handing him the pen.
Henry looked at the pen in his right hand and then at Taylor. He was surprised that Taylor was so perceptive at just six years old!
As a dad, Henry felt proud and didn't call out Taylor's little scheme. He kept teaching her math problems. Taylor was super smart; she's just in kindergarten but already self-taught to a third-grade level.
Taylor was also very attached to Henry. At night, after Henry had put Avery to sleep, Taylor ran over from the next room. She hugged her little pillow, wrapped herself in a small blanket, and snuggled into Henry's arms. Her little face pressed against Henry's arm as she handed him a fairy tale book, looking at him expectantly.
Actually, Taylor had been sleeping on her own for a while, but she rarely got to be with Henry. She missed him a lot, especially now that she had discovered Henry's secret, making her even more eager to stay by his side.
With a child on each side, Henry's heart was filled with warmth.
He gently patted Taylor's little head and softly read her fairy tales. Kids always get sleepy fast; after two stories, Taylor was ready to sleep.
Sleep was when people's defenses were the weakest.
Taylor hugged Henry's arm tightly. Only in her dreams did she reveal her little thoughts.
That day, in the operating room, no matter how much she called, she couldn't wake her dad. After that, no one mentioned it again.
But deep down, Taylor vaguely knew that Henry had become like this because of her. Henry needed a wheelchair, had a paralyzed arm, and didn't dare to be with her mom; she knew it was all because of her.
That night, Taylor had a nightmare. She cried and kept calling for her "Daddy".
Henry comforted her for a long time, letting Taylor snuggle in his arms. Listening to his steady heartbeat, Taylor gradually calmed down.
In the dim light, Henry looked at her little face and kissed her forehead. He felt fulfilled to have a son and a daughter.
But at night, Henry missed Grace, who was once a little girl herself, once sat on the back of his bicycle, and once whimsically said she wanted to ride in a motorhome.
But he had driven her away!
Late at night, Grace's flight landed at Dawnstar Airport.
She didn't stay at a hotel but took a taxi directly to Oliver's private villa in Dawnstar. By the time she arrived, it was close to 11 PM.
Even though it was late, the villa was still brightly lit.
Because of the last incident, Sarah, with the mind of a ten-year-old, refused to sleep. She was also very picky about food and didn't know how to dress appropriately for the weather. Even in the cold, she would wear thin clothes to look at the moon outside.
She once fell ill, searching for medicine on her own, and was then discovered and stopped by Oliver.
