Chapter 205 Grace Gave Birth to a Boy Named Avery Montague
Henry was now stuck in a wheelchair, so even if he made it to the airport, what could he really do?
Could he tell Grace that Taylor was the reason he ended up like this, that he wasn't with Esme, and then expect her to stick around forever?
Nope, Henry couldn't.
Grace was pregnant, and now they had another connection. Grace would be a great mom, and Taylor would have another family member. It wasn't all bad.
"Henry, what else can't you let go of?" Henry lay on the ground, breathing heavily, questioning himself.
Outside, Celeste took a deep breath, opened the door, and walked back into the study. But as soon as she stepped in, she froze. "Henry!"
She rushed over to help him up, struggling to get him back into the wheelchair. Henry was in so much pain that sweat dripped from his forehead like beads. Celeste's voice tightened. "I'll call Lucas to come over."
Henry stopped her. He glanced at the paper on the carpet and said softly, "Don't call him! Celeste, I need to be alone for a bit."
Celeste guessed what he was thinking. She picked up the paper and handed it back to him. After a moment, she said, "Actually..."
Henry cut her off. He pressed the paper to his chest. "Just give me a moment alone!"
Celeste had no choice but to leave. As she closed the door, she felt an urge to tell Grace the truth. But after the impulse passed, she calmed down and decided to respect Henry's choice.
After that day, Henry got into the habit of sitting on the terrace, staring east for hours.
Henry's recovery was tough. For the next year, he mostly relied on a wheelchair. He rarely went to the office, working from his study at home and attending meetings via video conference.
In the spring, he moved back to his old villa.
But he still didn't want to go out, always staying alone in the villa. After finishing his work, he'd look at the things Grace had left behind.
Taylor often called Henry, wanting him to come to Vesper City.
Each time, Henry would look down at his legs and tell Taylor he was on a business trip abroad and might not be back for several years. Gradually, Taylor believed he was abroad.
He never asked about Grace or their second child, and Grace never brought it up.
He knew it was because of her pride. Given that he had been with someone else, how could she possibly confess that she had another child with him?
In early autumn of the following year, Grace gave birth to a boy named Avery.
Henry sat alone for an entire night.
'Grace named the child Avery. Does that mean I still have a place in her heart?' he thought.
But Henry didn't have the guts to ask!
Late at night, the sound of a car echoed in the yard.
Before the servant could announce, Aurora quickly went upstairs. In a year, Aurora had aged a lot.
But at this moment, Aurora looked energetic. She directly pushed the door open and, with a voice full of mixed emotions, said, "Henry, Grace had a boy, a new addition to the Montague family!"
Henry sat in his wheelchair, his thin, handsome face expressionless under the light.
Aurora put away her joy, walked over, squatted beside Henry's wheelchair, and asked softly, "Why aren't you happy? The child is healthy, with the last name Montague, and named Avery!"
Aurora held onto the wheelchair and cried.
She choked up, "She still let the child have the last name Montague! Henry, you really should bring her back. Taylor and Avery both carry the Montague name. Grace is also your wife. Can you bear to let them wander outside? Vesper City may be good, but it's not their home!"
On this joyous day, Aurora couldn't help but cry.
Aurora confessed to Henry that if she hadn't treated Grace that way back then, their situation wouldn't have turned out like this.
But Henry said, "It's on me. I didn't treat her well!"
He looked at Aurora, his voice bitter. "Mom, Grace is doing fine now. Don't mess with her. When the kid grows up, with her situation, she can still find a good guy. She'll have her own life."
Henry used to be so proud and confident and would never let Grace go. Now, he was willing to encourage Grace to explore a relationship with someone else.
Aurora was crushed.
It took her a while to calm down. Just then, the servant brought up two late-night snacks, a stew. Aurora picked up a bowl, took a sip, and looked at Henry with tears in her eyes. "Henry, move back to the Montague Mansion and let Mom take care of you!"
Aurora was worried sick about him.
Henry took the bowl, his voice flat. "Living here is fine."
This was their wedding home with Grace. They had shared years here, through thick and thin. While she wasn't returning, he remained, as if she had just stepped out and would be back any moment.
Sometimes lying in bed, he'd feel like there was movement in the walk-in closet.
Henry would close his eyes and fool himself, imagining Grace inside ironing his shirts, just like before.
He used to yearn deeply to return to how things used to be! But he knew it was impossible.
A week after Grace gave birth to Avery, Henry couldn't help himself and called her at night. She answered with a very polite and distant tone. "Taylor is asleep. I'll wake her up."
It seemed that between them, only Taylor was left.
Henry stopped her. "If she's asleep, don't wake her! Grace, I just want to talk to you for a few minutes."
Grace was silent for a moment.
She murmured, "What is there left to talk about between us?"
At that moment, the faint sound of a baby crying came through the phone. Grace's voice choked up. "I gotta go!"
She hung up abruptly.
Henry collapsed on the sofa in despair.
They had missed each other like this, becoming a lingering heartache for one another.
Henry missed Grace, but she hated him, hated his cruelty and heartlessness.
Bygones dissipated like mist, and the years raced by like a flying shuttle.
In the spring of the following year, Grace came back alone.
Originally, she was very low-key, but Amara found out she was back, she sent an invitation asking her to attend a birthday party.
Additionally, Amara called her specifically. "It's been two years, and I miss you! No matter what happened before, you have to come."
Grace smiled lightly. "Mrs. Young, you're being too kind! I should visit anyway."
Only then did Amara let her go. They were close, and Grace, as usual, went over early to help Amara arrange some things for the party. Amara looked at the banquet hall and sighed, "Years have gone by, but you're still as amazing and capable as ever."
She invited Grace to the small flower room for a cup of coffee and a chat.
As they sat and talked, Amara asked about Grace's life in Vesper City and about Juniper.
Grace lowered her head, stirring her coffee with a silver spoon.
After a while, she smiled faintly and bitterly. "I'm still the same, with Clara and the kids keeping me company. It's so-so, but Juniper..."
Grace couldn't continue.
Originally, Juniper and Brent had a happy life after marriage, but half a year ago, Brent died in a plane crash, leaving behind his wife and a large estate. The family members were eyeing the estate, and Juniper was struggling to cope.
After a while, Grace said softly, "Juniper is planning to move the business to Evergreen City."
Amara also knew about this. She had always been friends with Brent. Hearing Grace's words, she held Grace's hand and said, "She can come to Los Angeles anytime. If there's anything I can help with, just let me know."
Grace smiled faintly. "Thank you, Mrs. Young."
Amara waved off her thanks, and both of them felt a bit sad.
