Chapter 579 Jacob, I'm Pregnant 1
The car turned into the heart of downtown, arriving at the amusement park.
Despite being a New Year's holiday, the place bustled with activity—couples strolling hand in hand, families with children, all contributing to the lively atmosphere of everyday life.
Jacob's black Bentley pulled up in front of the plaza and the engine fell silent. Through the windshield, they could see the snowfall growing heavier.
"It's too cold out there," Jacob said, turning to Serafina. "Why don't we just watch from the car?"
Yet despite his own suggestion, Jacob grabbed his coat and stepped out.
Snowflakes danced around him as he stood there in just a white shirt beneath his charcoal gray overcoat. With his meticulously trimmed hair and chiseled features, he effortlessly drew admiring glances from passersby. Young women and housewives alike stole furtive glances at him as they walked by.
Jacob lit a cigarette, taking his time with it. After a few drags, he tapped on the window, signaling for Serafina to put on her coat and join him.
Though hesitant, Serafina opened the car door. The wind and snow were quite strong outside.
Jacob extended his hand toward her. After a moment's hesitation, Serafina placed her hand in his, only to find herself pulled into his embrace. Her soft cheek pressed against his shoulder, her senses filled with the crisp masculine scent mingled with the cold winter air, creating an unexpectedly intimate atmosphere.
They had never been this close before. Despite having shared countless physical encounters, this embrace felt different—as if they were long-time lovers rather than a couple bound by arrangement.
Serafina absorbed Jacob's warmth, feeling a lump forming in her throat.
Delicate snowflakes settled on her hair and his shoulders as Jacob gazed down at her. After a long moment, he reached into his coat pocket and placed a small gift in her palm.
Serafina carefully opened it. Inside was a necklace with a golden leaf pendant, adorned with a small blue sapphire droplet. While not extravagantly expensive, it was exquisitely crafted and charming.
She stared at it for so long that her eyes began to sting with emotion. Jacob watched her tenderly, a smile playing on his lips. "Serafina," he said softly, "we're meant to be together until death parts us."
Serafina looked up at him, noticing the snowflakes in his hair. She reached up instinctively to brush them away, but Jacob pulled her tighter against him, his handsome face close to hers.
"Shall we go home now?" he asked, his voice husky with suggestion.
His Adam's apple bobbed as he spoke.
Serafina was no naive girl; she understood his meaning perfectly. Though feminine modesty made her hesitate for a few seconds, she ultimately wrapped her arms around Jacob's waist.
They embraced in the falling snow, perhaps their most tender moment yet—and the closest they had come to something resembling love.
As twilight descended, the newlyweds found themselves entwined on the master bed of their villa, lost in passionate lovemaking.
Afterward, Serafina lay catching her breath, still basking in the afterglow. Jacob pulled back the sheets and headed to the bathroom to shower. He opened the door, turned on the spray, and warm water quickly filled the room with steam.
Jacob dropped the towel from around his waist and stood under the shower, letting the water cascade over his muscular frame. Through the mist, he reflected on their recent intimacy.
Perhaps, he thought, they should stop using protection from now on. During this New Year's holiday, they should try for a child. After all, once the holiday ended, he'd be busy again.
Five minutes later, he turned off the water, casually wrapped himself in a robe, and returned to the bedroom.
Serafina lay with her back to him. The soft amber light cast a gentle glow on her slender shoulders, giving her an air of delicate warmth. She was fidgeting with the thin chain, clearly treasuring it.
Jacob watched her silently for a long moment.
Serafina had feelings for him.
Jacob didn't have the luxury of time to cultivate a relationship with Serafina—much less a romantic one. He needed an heir quickly, so he was leveraging her affection for him.
He leaned over and took the necklace from her hands, fastening it around her neck.
"You really like it?" he asked.
Serafina wrapped her arms around his neck and murmured her assent, looking so gentle and alluring that Jacob bent down to kiss her deeply once more. They fell back onto the soft bed together.
They spent nearly the entire New Year's holiday in bed.
On the fourth day, Jacob took her to Oceancrest City for three days. In those uninterrupted days and nights, they made love as husband and wife, never using protection. Nourished by what felt like genuine emotion, Serafina willingly tried to conceive Jacob's child.
On the seventh day of the New Year, they returned to their villa in Evergreen City.
That evening, Serafina organized their luggage in the walk-in closet. Since their marriage, they had kept the servants out of their bedroom—she preferred to maintain it herself. Fortunately, Jacob wasn't particularly fussy, and most of his clothes were professionally dry-cleaned anyway.
She was hanging his shirts one by one when Jacob, having finished some work in his study, came to check on her. Hearing his footsteps, Serafina felt her cheeks grow warm. After their passionate days together, she still wasn't entirely comfortable with their intimacy.
Jacob watched her quietly for a moment before stepping behind her and gently encircling her slender waist.
He leaned in close to her ear and whispered, "Feeling shy around me? Thinking about what we did this afternoon, aren't you?"
They had returned home that afternoon, driving directly into the underground garage. Serafina hadn't thought much of it until Jacob locked the garage door. He'd made love to her in the car—not in the driver's seat, but pulling her into the backseat. For a respectable woman like Serafina, it had been thrillingly scandalous.
Now, as he brought it up, Serafina couldn't bear the embarrassment. She quickly shook her head in denial. "No, not at all."
But the blush spreading across her face betrayed her. Just as Jacob was about to tease her further, his phone rang in his pocket.
Keeping one arm around her waist, he answered with his free hand. "Dad."
It was Oliver calling, checking in on the young couple. He also informed Jacob that Nicole and Theron had caught their 4 p.m. flight to Sovelan and should be in the air by now.
Jacob froze.
His phone had been vibrating repeatedly around 4 p.m., but he and Serafina had been otherwise occupied in the garage. So Nicole had left without him saying goodbye.
He remained silent for a long moment.
"Take good care of your wife," Oliver added before hanging up.
Jacob managed a faint smile. "I will."
As he put his phone away, he noticed Serafina's body had tensed in his arms. She must have overheard.
"They're family," he explained, a note of regret in his voice. "I should have seen them off."
Serafina heard the disappointment in his tone.
She nodded in understanding.
Neither said anything more, but deep in the night, she noticed Jacob silently rising from bed. Wrapped in his coat, he stood on the balcony, gazing westward.
His silhouette looked so lonely.
Serafina sat up in bed, watching him silently. She realized he must be thinking of someone, harboring some unresolved regret. Their passionate days together had been nothing but an illusion.
Jacob might have fooled her, but he couldn't fool himself.
Only now did she understand that even affection could be feigned.
The night grew still.
All she could hear was the soft sound of falling snow.
Serafina raised her hand to touch the delicate chain around her neck.
She chose not to confront Jacob about his true feelings. Instead, she pretended not to notice, knowing she had no right to demand more. Slowly, she lay back down, staring at the dark ceiling above her.
In her ears, the sound of falling snow seemed to shatter into pieces.
Serafina barely slept that night.
When she woke in the morning, Jacob was already gone from their bed. She lay there quietly for a while before getting up to wash and prepare for a visit to the art gallery.
But as she brushed her teeth, a wave of nausea rose from her chest.
Serafina retched violently.
After a moment, she steadied herself against the sink, stunned by the realization. A woman's intuition told her what this meant—she was pregnant.
