Chapter 104 Go ask the boss for leave.
"Convinced?"
"Convinced!"
Five minutes later, Alvin lay sprawled out on the chair, his limbs stretched out, his stomach bloated. There was still some grease on the corner of his mouth, and he looked a bit dazed after the meal.
Elbert elegantly wiped the corner of his mouth.
"Elbert, there's a creative meeting at the company at 2 PM. You're coming back with me," Alvin struggled to sit up straight and said to Elbert.
"I'm not going." Elbert shrugged.
"If you don't do that, you need to help Aunt Hannah clean." Alvin threatened.
"Then I'll clean."
"I really can't deal with you!" Alvin said helplessly, taking a big gulp of soda. "What are you up to every day? The company has such a bright future now, and you don't want to be a part of it? Do you still want to trade stocks?
"I heard from Professor Gavin that you're the mysterious stock trading expert! No wonder the company has so much cash on hand! But working hard to take our company public, owning our stock, is definitely more fun than trading stocks!"
Elbert smiled slightly. "Alvin, one of the best decisions I've made recently was to have you join me in running the company! With you here, I'm at ease!"
Hearing this, Alvin's eyes showed a touch of emotion.
Then, Alvin blinked his slightly moist eyes and said seriously, "No matter what you say, this company is still yours, and I will discuss all the necessary strategic ideas with you! But we've been very successful in social networking and interest-based social platforms, and we have a large user base. I think it's time to start making big money!"
As he spoke, Alvin glanced at Elbert. Elbert nodded slightly, seemingly thinking about other things at the same time.
Alvin sighed helplessly. "It seems you're not very interested in this either, but there's one thing you must attend!"
Elbert then looked at Alvin. "What is it?"
"Our college reunion!" Alvin smiled mysteriously, "I sponsored this year's reunion as the Creator! The venue is on our company's rooftop!"
Elbert was a bit puzzled. "Why at the company? From what I know, you're not someone who loves showing off!"
Alvin pondered for a moment and said, "Indeed, I'm not, and neither are you, but our classmates are! Do you know how they've been talking about you these past two years? They say you're a fallen genius, that you've gone blind, lost your mind, and become an idiot! The rumors have gotten worse and worse! I'm very angry!"
Alvin looked up and said, "So, I set the reunion at our company's rooftop to announce and show them who you, Elbert, really are! Not only were you outstanding in school, far ahead of everyone. Even after graduation, you still are!"
Then, Alvin said in an irrefutable tone, "Elbert, you have to listen to me on this!"
Elbert was a bit amused. In his heart, he never thought about proving anything. But seeing his good friend's unyielding expression, he didn't say no. He smiled slightly, "Alright, we'll keep it appropriate then!"
Alvin was very pleased and nodded firmly. Then, Alvin grabbed his phone from the table, got up, and left. As he walked quickly, he couldn't help but laugh, "Elbert, I'm off to the meeting. This place is yours to clean! Oh, I forgot to tell you, the reunion is tomorrow!"
As he shouted this, Alvin had already gotten into a cab! As for the Lamborghini Elbert gave him, he said it was too flashy and too loud, so he didn't drive it.
Ten minutes later, Elbert was reluctantly cleaning SpicySombrero Dogs. It was a bit of a difficult work for Elbert, but compared to Hannah's help during his difficult times, this was nothing to him.
Elbert's phone suddenly rang.
A familiar yet unfamiliar number popped up.
It was from Emily.
Elbert answered. The other end was still that gentle voice with a hint of fragility, "Elbert, how have you been lately?"
"Not bad. What do you need?" Elbert's tone was very calm, with no intention of catching up.
The other end hesitated, "I do have something. My dad wants to meet you, and my mom too. They're in a hurry and want to see you now."
"Okay, I'm at SpicySombrero Dogs, you know, the place next to the school." Elbert didn't ask anything. He still felt a bit guilty towards Emily. If it's a small favor, he might as well help to ease that guilt!
The other end was silent for a moment, then said softly, "We'll be there soon, thank you."
Twenty minutes later, a Mercedes sedan sped over and stopped right in front of SpicySombrero Dogs! Emily, wearing a floral dress, was the first to get out! Then her father, Benjamin Thompson! After that, a slightly plump, dignified-looking middle-aged woman got out of the back seat.
Elbert squinted slightly. The whole family showed up!
"Elbert, long time no see!" Benjamin walked up excitedly, shaking Elbert's hand warmly. Behind him, Emily's mother, Cynthia Baker, slowly walked into the small shop. She waved her hand, looking disgusted. Lastly, there was Emily, who had been keeping her head down.
"I haven't seen you in years, Elbert. How did you end up..." Cynthia looked at Elbert holding a broom; she felt a bit helpless!
It seemed she wanted to mock him initially, but for some reason, she swallowed the rest of her words and forced a smile.
Elbert then turned to look at Benjamin in front of him, the smile pretending to be sincere. Alright.
'Could it be that their son-in-law Alex told them about my impressive net worth? Maybe not! Emily's father was an executive at a large publicly traded company. He wouldn't be worried about money!' Elbert wondered. 'Moreover, from Cynthia's disdainful expression, just like before, she clearly looks down on me! Probably, Alex didn't tell them anything about me!'
After pondering a while, Elbert smiled slightly. "What brings you all to see me?"
Cynthia, covering her nose, said, "Elbert, what we need to discuss is quite important. I think we should go to a better café and sit down to talk!" Then she glanced at the kitchen and added, "By the way, you should ask your boss for some time off!"
