Chapter 356 Capture
Three hours later...
Alaric sat in his office, rubbing his temples vigorously. Handling accusations and condemnations from six major countries was no easy task! The era of cyborgs was already tense. If not handled properly, it could lead to outright conflict! This time, Veridiania was in the wrong, and the other countries were taking advantage of it! Alaric used both hard and soft tactics to barely hold them off. He managed to buy a little breathing room! The six countries trying to track Elbert were stopped by Alaric. But now, four Dragon Might cyborgs were guarding the Lab Graveyard!
Alaric exhaled slightly, picked up the phone, and dialed a number.
"Leonard, bring your officers and come with me to arrest a few people."
"Alaric, with your Dragon Might around, do you really need me for such a small task?"
"This time is different. They killed the top candidates from six countries, but they are also national assets. I'm trying to protect them by temporarily detaining them at your place, so I don't leave any loose ends."
Leonard, on the other end of the line, was slightly taken aback. "This is no small matter! We'll meet up right away!"
Twenty minutes later...
Leonard arrived at the agreed location with Alaric. Leonard stared at the massive white building in front of him, completely stunned! His mouth hung open, and he even forgot to drink his water, his eyes wide with shock!
"Alaric, don't tell me the people you want to arrest live here."
Alaric nodded slightly. "That's right. My team tracked them here and has been keeping watch. He can't escape."
Leonard's expression was extremely complicated. "Do you even know who he is?"
"He's a civilian with decent potential, no background, who got into BioGen Innovations Hero Academy on his own merit. That's all I know. I've sent people to investigate further."
Alaric took a step forward. "By the way, he might have some connection to your friend, Ronnie."
That's it?
Leonard pursed his lips. After a moment of thought, he guessed the situation. Elbert probably couldn't hold back and took out the international team. That shouldn't be, though? Elbert wasn't usually so reckless! But no matter what, this time was different! The international team might be annoying, but they weren't criminals! Damn it. This is going to be tough! I'm not a miracle worker; there are things even I can't handle!
Leonard looked at the back of Alaric, the two-star general of Veridiania. He was just the commander of the Wavehaven Police Department's special operations team! Alaric outranked him by four levels in the War Department! Leonard furrowed his brow and followed closely. Behind him, including Violet Moon, four stern-looking young people from Veridiania followed. These were Dragon Might members, with B-level strength!
"Alaric," Leonard spoke as they walked, "Have your people hold back for now."
"Don't worry," Alaric sighed slightly, "He's one of our Veridiania citizens. I won't use force."
"I know," Leonard hesitated. "I'm just afraid he'll end up with more blood on his hands."
"Leonard!"
"Do you think this is the time for jokes?" Alaric's tone was low and serious.
Leonard sighed, keeping his thoughts to himself. When? Right when you're about to arrest Elbert! And you're making me do it? You might as well ask me to sacrifice myself on the spot!
Alaric boldly pushed open the door to the Lab Graveyard, and Leonard's heart skipped a beat. I've never even been in here!
The group was stunned by the scene inside. Towering shelves stretched endlessly, filled with all sorts of equipment and gadgets. Leonard panicked, wondering if divine retribution would strike him down on the spot.
The sound of their shoes echoed in the Lab Graveyard as they walked past rows of shelves, marveling at the sight. At first, they saw a small boy sitting on a bed surrounded by shelves. Next to him sat a three-meter-tall mechanical Big Dog, exuding an intimidating presence. The boy and the dog stared coldly at the group.
Leonard's hand trembled, almost dropping his thermos. Then, they saw another space. A large bed with a black and white umbrella leaning against it. A pale boy in white lay sleeping on the bed. A girl in black with empty eyes sat by the bed. Three figures stood to the side.
Leonard pursed his lips. One of them was Summer with a mechanical arm! He didn't recognize the other two girls. One had a stern expression, and the other carried a huge black box on her back. The Gary Four? Could one of them be injured? A chill ran down Leonard's spine. This was serious!
The four Dragon Might members behind him felt their hair stand on end under the children's gaze.
"Mr. Kingsley, these people are quite strong!" Alaric frowned and whispered, "Call for more backup. If he resists arrest, we'll have to use force!"
Turning past another shelf, they finally reached the core of the Lab Graveyard. At a massive workbench, a figure in white was hunched over, constantly working on a computer. The room was eerily quiet.
One of the Dragon Might members pulled out a device and scanned the figure. "Mr. Kingsley, this person shows no signs of being a cyborg."
Violet Moon's cold eyes narrowed. "Of course not. He's just a student from the Veridiania group!"
Alaric breathed a slight sigh of relief. He had been full of confidence, but since entering this room, he felt an inexplicable caution. He whispered, "Kid, we need to handle this. Come with me to the station, and I'll find a way to smooth things over for you."
Elbert didn't turn around or speak.
"Even Ronnie can't protect you now against the international community!" Alaric frowned. "I know your friends are strong, but haven't you noticed? The FIC has surrounded this place. If you don't come with me, it'll be even more dangerous if you're taken internationally."
"FIC?" Elbert smiled inexplicably.
Alaric frowned. Was this young man so defiant? He was about to lose his temper, but Leonard stepped forward and held out a hand to stop Alaric.
"Elbert, others may not understand you, but I do! You often kill people!"
