Chapter 185 Mad Soldier?
The clock at Luminous Nights Club struck eight. It was an hour when the establishment should've been shrouded in post-party silence. Instead, a tense crowd of over a hundred had gathered outside, their faces angry and helpless.
These were the Black Fox gang members, and their headquarters had been infiltrated.
Silence fell over the crowd as a figure approached, hands clasped casually behind his back.
"Mr. Paul!"
The assembled gang members looked relieved. Their leader had arrived.
"Mr. Paul, it's bad," a young man exclaimed, rushing toward Elbert. "Raven, second-in-command of the Dragon Pride Syndicate, is here. He's brought an expert, and..."
Elbert nodded, his gaze drifting toward the fifth floor. Shadows flickered in the windows, hinting at the chaos unfolding within.
"I'll handle it," he replied, giving his shoulder a reassuring pat.
"But Mr. Paul..." the young man hesitated, his brow furrowed with worry. "You need to be careful. Raven only brought one other person, but she... she's different."
He swallowed hard, whispering, "She fought her way up to the fifth floor alone, taking down over a hundred of our guys. One move, and that's all it took to send them flying. The boss is trapped in his office, and..."
His voice trailed off, the unspoken fear hanging heavy in the air.
"Tell the others to stand down," Elbert instructed, his voice calm despite the tension around. "I don't want any unnecessary trouble."
He turned and strode into the club, leaving the anxious gang members behind.
The hallway and stairwell were packed with Black Fox members, their faces grim.
"Mr. Paul!"
"Mr. Paul!"
A ripple of greetings followed Elbert as he ascended the stairs, the crowd parting to create a path. Their leader's arrival had brought a glimmer of hope to their predicament.
The sounds of a struggle echoed from the fifth floor – furniture crashing, the muffled thud of bodies colliding, and a few occasional screams.
Elbert shook his head, smiling wryly. There were hundreds of men, yet they were powerless to a single office breach.
"Mr. Paul, be careful," a voice whispered urgently as he passed. "She's using some strange techniques. You might even say she's on par with you."
Elbert merely nodded, his expression unreadable.
"Mr. Paul is here!" a voice boomed as they reached the fifth floor.
The announcement had an immediate effect. The agitated crowd surrounding the office door fell silent, anticipation replacing their earlier anxiety.
Elbert stepped into the office, looking around the scene.
Raven was a large man with a face that spoke of countless indulgences, and he was sitting on Black Fox's chair. He looked like a ruthless gang leader from every inch, but his eyes were uneasy.
And then Elbert saw her.
Standing a few feet from Raven was a girl, no more than seventeen or eighteen. She was small, almost frail, with short hair that obscured most of her face. Dressed in a simple black T-shirt and cargo pants, she looked utterly unremarkable except for her terrifying aura.
Black Fox gang members lay scattered around her like fallen dominoes. Her right hand was casually gripping their leader's neck, lifting him off the ground as if he weighed no more than a rag doll.
Black Fox's face was turning purple, his legs kicking wildly in a desperate attempt to break free.
Melissa stood off to the side, her expression calm and composed. To the untrained eye, she was just another one of Black Fox's entourage. But she knew better. Mr. Elbert, the man who seemed to know everything, always arrived precisely when he was needed.
Seeing them in such a dangerous situation, Elbert sighed.
The girl, startled by the sound, turned toward him. Her grip on Black Fox's neck loosened, leaving him crumpled to the floor and gasping for air.
Her face, though partially hidden by her hair, held delicate features. If not for her cold eyes, she could have passed for an ordinary college student.
"Finally!" Raven yelled, throwing back his head and slapping his massive belly. "The big fish has arrived!"
Elbert ignored him, walking calmly toward the sofa and taking a seat. Melissa silently moved to stand beside him.
"Mr. Paul, is it?" Raven sneered, leaning back in his chair as if he was in charge. "Quite the entrance, taking out my men like that. You think you're invincible?"
He slammed his fist on the desk, his expression turning vicious. "Well, think again! I brought along a little surprise for you, Paul Two. A real expert; not some street thug."
He jabbed a finger toward the girl. "Let's see you fight her! Like how you beat up 600 men at once!"
He puffed out his chest, his voice disdainful. "This is Mad Soldier! On the battlefield, she moves like a ghost, taking down entire armies and assassinating enemy leaders without breaking a sweat. Your little fighting skills are nothing to her!"
Elbert remained silent, his gaze fixed on Raven.
"What's wrong?" Raven taunted, his voice rising. "Scared now? Where's all that arrogance from the blindfolded Street God of War? I think you're nothing but a coward!"
He spat on the ground. "You think taking down a few of my men makes you king of the underworld? I've got ten times- twenty times their number! But you, you're lucky I even bothered to show up. Luckily, I brought Mad Soldier to deal with you personally."
He chuckled cruelly. "At least you won't die a meaningless death."
Raven pulled out a cigar, his pudgy fingers fumbling with the lighter.
"So what if this is your precious Black Fox gang headquarters?" he continued, his voice thick with cigar smoke. "So what if I'm sitting in your chair? So what if you have two hundred men waiting outside?"
He exhaled some smoke, his eyes malicious. "With Mad Soldier at my side, I'm untouchable. I can crush anyone at anytime I want."
He pointed a gold-ringed finger at the surrounding Black Fox members. "If I wanted to, you'd all be on your knees begging for mercy right now. I've been playing with the lot of you; my boss hasn't even had to lift a finger!"
The Black Fox members shifted uncomfortably, their fists clenching in silent fury. They were outmatched, unable to get close to the terrifying Mad Soldier. And their leader, their seemingly invincible Paul Two, remained seated without moving.
'Could it be that even he is no match for this Mad Soldier?' they questioned themselves.
"I'll give you two choices," Raven announced, standing up. He looked furious, his voice low and dangerous. "Release my brother. Then, you and your pathetic Black Fox gang will swear allegiance to the Dragon Pride Syndicate. Also, as punishment for injuring my men, you will lose a finger, Paul Two. Right here, right now."
He paused, letting the threat hang in the air.
"Or..." he continued, his voice amused. "The Black Fox gang ceases to exist. As for you, Paul Two... Mad Soldier will break you; limb by limb before feeding the leftovers to the fishes."
Elbert sighed, his shoulders slumping as if a great weight had settled upon them. "Spring," he said, his voice barely a whisper. "Come here."
'Spring?'
Confusion rippled through the room. Who was he talking to?
Even Raven seemed taken aback.
Mad Soldier, twitched at the sound of her name. Without a word, she turned and walked toward Elbert, stopping behind the sofa.
Elbert massaged his temples, his voice weary. "Spring, we've talked about this. 'Mad Soldier' is a dreadful name; you need something more... approachable."
"Yes, Sir," she mumbled, her gaze fixed on the floor.
