Chapter 360 Heart-Piercing
Deep in the mountains surrounding Wavehaven, an old military training ground lay abandoned.
Amidst the lush green trees and towering peaks, there was a clearing the size of two football fields.
Two groups stood in a tense standoff.
On one side, led by Alaric, were over a dozen members of Veridiania's Dragon Might. Among them were twelve B+ grade enhanced individuals, including Violet Moon. This was the best Dragon Might could muster on short notice.
On the other side stood the alliance of six major nations, spearheaded by BioGen Innovations. BioGen Innovations' CEO Bertrand and key figures from the six nations' enhancement programs were all present. The six nations had fully allied with BioGen Innovations, demanding C-grade technology and uniting to pressure Veridiania.
At the forefront of BioGen Innovations' group were three figures in hooded cloaks. Their large hoods obscured their faces, and they stood silently, exuding a cold aura. C-grade!
Behind these three were over a dozen B+ grade enhanced individuals from the six allied nations. This battle was ostensibly a contest of enhancement technology. In reality, it was a show of force by the six nations.
Leonard stood with his Wavehaven special operations team on Veridiania's side. After all, this contest was taking place on Wavehaven's turf. The special ops team had to maintain order. Naturally, this was not something the general public could know about or witness.
Elbert was also present. He sat on a half-collapsed stone wall behind Veridiania's group, quietly observing.
Bertrand's eyes narrowed when he saw Elbert, his teeth grinding. He shouted, "Mr. Kingsley, Elbert is a wanted criminal, and yet you openly protect him here. This is too much!"
Dragon Might's leader, Alaric, clenched his fists in secret. He had no confidence in this standoff. Not only were they facing the enhanced individuals from the six nations, but BioGen Innovations' three C-grades were also beyond his ability to contend with. The difference between B-grade and C-grade was like night and day. But he couldn't afford to lose face now. He had to muster his courage.
Alaric puffed out his chest and shouted, "Until an international tribunal intervenes, Veridiania will handle its own affairs. You have no right to interfere! Not only can he watch the battle, but I could also send him on vacation if I wanted, and you couldn't do a thing about it!"
Bertrand extended his right hand, missing two fingers, then quickly retracted it with a sneer. "Fine, protect him all you want. But you won't be able to protect him for long! Mr. Kingsley, I suggest you open your eyes and take a good look! This is the era of enhanced individuals! What right does Veridiania have to protect him? Dragon Might? Veridiania's enhancement program? A mere dozen B+ grade enhanced individuals? Ridiculous! You call yourselves a major power?"
An old man with a rat-like face, Arcturus, chuckled darkly. "Mr. Kingsley, to be honest, these three C+ experts here are not even half of what my esteemed partner, Mr. Bertrand, has."
"But unfortunately, just these three C-grade experts are enough to flatten Veridiania!"
Mocking laughter erupted from the crowd of the six nations.
Alaric's fists tightened even more.
These bastards!
Alaric was seething inside.
Their words were harsh!
But they were also true.
Veridiania's enhancement technology was indeed lagging behind.
These three C-grades were truly formidable.
Unconsciously, Alaric's face turned red.
His heart raced!
He was 69 years old now.
His heart wasn't in good shape.
Violet Moon, noticing Alaric's condition, signaled to a guard.
The guard quickly pulled out a small bottle of pills.
Violet Moon said worriedly, "Mr. Kingsley, please calm down and take your medicine. Don't worry, we won't disgrace Dragon Might, even if it costs us our lives!"
Alaric gritted his teeth and waved her off gently. "Don't worry, I won't die in front of them. If I have to die, I'll find a secluded place. They won't get the satisfaction of seeing me fall!"
From a distance, Elbert shook his head slightly.
What was the leadership thinking?
Why hide the existence of the Apex Guardians?
Dragon Might was a shadow of its former self!
Alaric's voice trembled, "Bertrand, just wait. Our Veridiania experts are on their way! Soon, you'll be begging for mercy!"
Bertrand shook his head slightly. "On their way? I'm looking forward to it! I'm really looking forward to seeing what experts Veridiania has left."
"Hopefully, you have a C+ grade enhanced individual from some botched experiment!"
"Like Black Clothes or something!"
"Otherwise, this battle will be too boring!"
Someone from the six-nation alliance laughed, "A C-grade from the whole country? What if Veridiania doesn't have that kind of luck?"
"They don't have that kind of luck!"
"They'll probably try to hold out with a bunch of B-grades!"
Bertrand waved his hand arrogantly. "Mr. Kingsley, don't worry. No matter how many you bring, I promise we'll only use our three C+ grades! We don't want to be accused of bullying you!"
Alaric's body trembled again.
But he forced himself to suppress his emotions.
Bertrand's gaze then pierced through the crowd, landing on Elbert.
"Kid, I have to say, Veridiania is very united."
"You're just a trainee, yet you get this kind of protection!"
"But in reality, you're nothing. You're not worthy of facing me!"
"The one who killed our six-nation alliance trainee and injured Arc is someone else!"
"Arc is still in a coma!"
"But here you are, flaunting yourself!"
"And you claim to have your own way?"
"You only dare to hide behind Dragon Might!"
"Now, do you dare step out and face me?"
Bertrand's face twisted with a sinister look.
"You should be grateful!"
Elbert smiled slightly. "Today, you'll only see Veridiania's way. My way, you can't handle!"
"Killing you is too easy. I want to break your spirit!"
"Here's a tip: cherish the little time you have left!"
Bertrand laughed maniacally. "I kind of like you, kid. You're arrogantly mysterious!"
But just as he finished speaking, a roaring sound came from the distant sky!
