Chapter 218 Departure to Celestria City

The following two days were a flurry of activity.

Wavehaven's Black Fox gang made a surprising announcement; the establishment of a new external liaison office, headed by none other than Trinity. Its purpose was to handle all of Black Fox's negotiations outside of Wavehaven.

Meanwhile, Creator employees worked tirelessly, compiling a list of children with specific blood types.

Two days later, the list was discreetly delivered to Wavehaven's Special Operations headquarters. Ten children, aged three to five, all with the rare Rh-negative blood type.

Trinity, leveraging her underworld contacts, established contact with a middleman for a human trafficking ring.

Everything was falling into place.

The plan was for her to pose as a buyer, infiltrate the trafficking ring, and ultimately lead them to Beserk. The Special Operations team suspected Beserk was merely a cog in a much larger machine. This meeting was just the first step in what promised to be a long and dangerous operation.

"That stubborn kid... wouldn't budge," Leonard sighed, running a hand through his hair. He looked at Trinity apologetically. "Looks like it's all up to you, Agent Trinity. Don't worry; I'll have two teams standing by, so be ready to move in at a moment's notice."

Trinity, radiant in her signature red dress, smiled reassuringly. "Please, Officer Reed, you gotta have some faith in me, I can handle it by myself." She winked playfully. "Besides, wouldn't want to scare him off, now would we? This first meeting is all about building trust."

Leonard could only nod, feeling uneasy.

Everything seemed to be going smoothly; almost too smoothly. Yet, he couldn't shake off the feeling that something was amiss.

Trinity was the perfect choice for this mission – a fresh face, a natural charmer, and a skilled operative. The plan was solid, and the bait was enticing.

However, the criminal organization he'd been tracking for almost a year... they were a different breed. Their counter-intelligence was top-notch and they had ruthless methods. Moreover, the whispers of a connection to an illegal human modification ring... it all painted a grim picture.

He was sending Trinity into the lion's den' he knew it.

As if reading his mind, Trinity laughed softly. "Don't worry yourself, Officer Reed. I've stared danger in the face before. It's all part of the job, isn't it? Protecting the innocent and bringing the guilty to justice."

She leaned forward, her eyes sparkling with determination. "Ten days; that's all I need to crack this case wide open. And then," she added, whispering, "I'll be back in Wavehaven, ready to pay my little brother a visit."

Little brother? Leonard choked back a cough. How deeply had she embedded herself in Wavehaven's underbelly in just a few days?

An hour later, the stage was set.

He escorted her to the basement of the Special Operations headquarters. A black sedan with civilian plates awaited, its driver a young officer in plainclothes.

Celestria City. That's where Trinity was headed for her meeting with Beserk.

As the car ascended to street level, bathed in the afternoon sun, Leonard felt some apprehension.

He watched as the car merged into traffic before squinting at a distant rooftop.

A lone figure stood there, silhouetted against the sky. He wore a white shirt and his right eye had a faint purple glint.

Elbert.

He had seen it all.

The figure met Leonard's gaze for a fleeting moment, silently acknowledging their shared concern before disappearing from view.

Leonard slowly smiled.

The kid... he may have refused to be directly involved, but he wasn't going to let Trinity face this alone.

A god he may be, but even gods had those they cared about.

He  only wished he could convince the kid to join his team. But some birds, especially those who soared above the clouds, were not meant to be caged.

Five hours later, Trinity stood outside the Sunshine Children's International Orphanage in Celestria City.

The orphanage was only a front for a human trafficking ring. She wasn't surprised by the irony.

She felt angry toward those who would prey on the weak.

"Well, well, look who we have here."

A voice, smooth and oily, startled her from her thoughts.

She turned to find a man standing behind her, his face half-hidden behind a pair of thick-rimmed glasses. He was tall and wiry, his smile failing to reach his cold, calculating eyes.

The contact.

He frowned, his gaze flickering to Elbert, who stood silently beside her. "We agreed you'd come alone. Who's this?"

Before Trinity could respond, the man waved a dismissive hand. "Ah, forget it. A woman like you... a little extra protection is understandable." His eyes lingered on Trinity, flickering in a predatory way.

Elbert chuckled, sending shivers down Trinity's spine. "Indeed. Shall we?"

Trinity, caught off guard, could only follow their lead.

Her mind raced.

'How did Elbert even find me? This wasn't part of the plan.'

She shot him a pleading look, but he simply smiled reassuringly, his purple eye glowing faintly in the dim light.

She smiled, hoping it didn't look as forced as it felt. "Don't mind him," she said to the contact, her voice laced with a playful charm. "He's harmless... mostly."

The contact chuckled, leading them deeper into the orphanage.

Her heart pounded against her ribs.

She was in too deep, and now Elbert was entangled in her web of deceit.

She had to find a way out, for both their sakes.
