Chapter 288 Who Am I
The guy in the mirror grinned, giving off this weirdly familiar vibe that was almost too subtle to notice.
But the whole thing was so freaky, even someone as tough as Elbert felt a shiver run down his spine and took a step back.
He couldn't help but remember what Dawn had said about someone spotting a figure in the mine.
At the next moment, the figure in the mirror stepped forward, and the smooth, mirror-like surface of the liquid metal started to show his face and body.
But he didn't seem threatening, just gave Elbert a slight nod with his hands behind his back.
Seeing this figure that looked almost exactly like him, Elbert felt a strange, indescribable feeling.
The guy in the mirror had this slight smile frozen on his face, his skin wasn't flesh-colored but made of dark liquid metal. Yet, his eyes showed this weird trust!
Then the guy in the mirror waved his arm, and the whole vibe in the cave changed big time.
The mirror melted instantly, turning back into liquid metal, like a basin of clear water splashing all over the ground, and the guy in the mirror vanished in a flash.
Right after that, there was a loud noise from deep in the cave, and Elbert could sense countless ripples flashing through the layers of soil.
It was like tons of liquid metal were flowing through various cracks, summoned by some invisible force, converging fast. And the point of convergence was a few feet in front of Elbert, hanging in mid-air.
It was an insanely magnificent scene!
It was like there was a vortex there, constantly sucking in the liquid metal from the mine like rivers flowing into the sea.
The ground shook because so much liquid metal was being pulled from the soil, making it hollow, and the cave was on the verge of collapsing.
Cracks appeared in the ceiling, and dust and rubble kept falling!
Amidst the dust, Elbert frowned and watched, standing still! And Robert Williams was also going through some weird changes.
From Elbert's perspective, countless numbers and symbols flashed by quickly, like a blue storm, covering the sky.
"Robert Williams, what's going on?" Elbert was shocked, "This is unbelievable, it's so strange!"
Robert Williams exclaimed, "That figure just now was real! The moment he left, it was so strange!"
"At that time, there were strange magnetic fields flashing around, containing immense energy. It was the gravity generated by a high-mass object. There was a slight spatial collapse. There were even overlaps of several dimensional spaces. It was like the effect of a black hole, only scaled down by several trillion times," Robert Williams explained.
He paused for a second and continued, "It's hard for me to calculate the real data right now, I can only boldly estimate that he came from another time and crossed back, breaking through the fifth dimension."
"Elbert, that's mind-blowing!" Robert Williams added.
But Elbert's expression was inexplicably serious, and he said in a low voice, "Maybe you won't believe it, but I have a strange feeling..."
Robert Williams was confused, "What?"
Elbert's eyes lit up, "I feel like that was me!"
Robert Williams was just as shocked, "Oh my god! You're messing with my head!"
Elbert couldn't really explain it either. But the feeling he had was incredibly strong and clear.
Robert Williams reminded him, "Elbert! According to my calculations, this cave is gonna collapse in 10 minutes, and you'll be buried under all this rubble!"
"It'll be the deepest grave in history!" Robert Williams exclaimed.
But Elbert stayed calm, keeping his eyes on the vortex in front of him.
The vortex was sucking in all the underground liquid metal at an insane speed and capacity.
Elbert didn't know where the feeling came from, but he said in a deep voice, "Robert Williams, I feel like this is something 'I' left for me!"
Ten minutes later, the vortex started to slow down. It seemed like it had sucked up all the liquid metal underground.
In the end, it condensed into a pendant the size of a water droplet.
Robert Williams was amazed, "It absorbed at least hundreds of pounds of liquid metal! Its mass must be off the charts!"
"It's impossible to guess what kind of energy could compress it this much," Robert Williams said.
Elbert tried to sense it with his metal-controlling ability but found that its internal density was insanely high and completely unmovable.
Out of nowhere, Elbert reached out to grab the water droplet.
Robert Williams shouted, "Elbert, its power is too great, be careful not to break your bones!"
It seemed to create a ripple. The pendant fell into Elbert's hand, and he felt a strange heaviness, but it wasn't unmanageable.
Robert Williams said, "Looks like I really need an upgrade. With my current AI level, I can't understand these things at all!"
Elbert held the pendant in his hand, then looked down. Under the faint light, a string of numbers slowly appeared on the surface of the pendant, '864:59:59.'
Then, the last set of numbers on top began to count down.
"This is a countdown! 864 hours! 36 days!" Robert Williams exclaimed!
Elbert frowned, deep in thought, 'It seems like something's gonna happen in 36 days! 'I' must be reminding me of something! But what could it be?'
Just as Elbert was lost in thought, the cave completely collapsed!
Five minutes earlier, Dawn, the villagers, and a group of men in black were waiting at the entrance of the cave.
Suddenly, there was a rumbling vibration under their feet, puting everyone on edge.
What was happening underground?
Dawn looked anxious, and the commander of the Evalia battle unit frowned.
The next moment, the ground shook even more violently. A fine crack appeared in the distance, snaking and widening! Dust was faintly emerging from the crack.
Dawn was the most anxious, "This is really bad, the mine is collapsing, we need to notify Mr. Perry!"
After saying this, Dawn lifted her skirt and was about to enter the cave when her father stopped her, "You fool, it's too dangerous down there right now, what are you thinking?"
Dawn's father pushed her aside and took a few steps forward. "Let me handle this!"
