Chapter 88 The world has changed
Elbert left the coastline behind, stepping into the bustling streets of Wavehaven. His destination was clear: the FutureTech Group building, a place where his mission would unfold with urgency and anticipation.
As he navigated the crowded streets, his mind was preoccupied with thoughts of the upcoming confrontation.
Despite its high-level network security, the FutureTech Group couldn't withstand Robert's intrusion. Elbert had seen everything that transpired on the B4 floor.
"Robert, what can you find out about cyborgs?" Elbert inquired internally.
"There's very little information online, and not much from private servers either. Cyborgs are tightly held secrets among top powers. High-ranking military officials from various countries are racing to develop them to boost national combat power. Many top private research institutions are also working in secret, aiming to provide enhancements to major families and private militias. A few have made initial progress, with some cyborgs already integrated into society."
Elbert mused, "If this continues, won't the wealthy be able to use money to enhance their bodies?"
"That's correct," Robert confirmed.
Elbert's brow furrowed as he contemplated the implications of enhancement drugs and cyborgs.
He knew the fact that the world was changing rapidly, and technology, with its rapid pace of change, was at the forefront of this transformation, creating a sense of urgency and uncertainty.
As he walked, he observed the hurried crowd around him. Among them, there might be cyborgs with strength and speed far beyond that of ordinary humans, much like Jessica. However, for now, cyborgs remained the toys of the wealthy, and most people were completely unaware of their existence. They lived in a comfortable bubble, believing the world was the same as before—a place where strength and intelligence determined one's success.
But Elbert knew better.
In his eyes, technology was widening the gap between people. The rich would enhance themselves, becoming super intelligent and super strong, while the poor would struggle even more to keep up. The chasm between rich and poor would become nearly impossible to bridge.
"Robert, do you think there will be someone who can stop this?" Elbert asked.
"Of course!" Robert replied.
"Who will it be?" Elbert pressed.
Robert paused before answering firmly, "You."
Elbert felt the weight of this responsibility. "Robert, what level is Rex's enhancement?"
"His technology is outdated. It only optimizes the current human condition, using hormones like adrenaline to keep the body in a constant state of heightened performance. It's an external force-driven enhancement, not intrinsic."
Elbert nodded. "And compared to me?"
"You're entirely different. You've broken through human genetic limitations, entering a new phase of human evolution. If we were to quantify it, Rex's strength enhancement value is around 500%, while yours is about 2700%."
Elbert smiled lightly.
'Then, I don't need to worry about him,' thought Elbert.
He continued his stroll, his thoughts interrupted by Robert.
"Elbert, your progress has just begun. After breaking the genetic lock, there are still five stages: combat awareness, limit release, thought simulation, genetic recombination, and higher-dimensional life. But for now, let's focus on the present."
Elbert's phone rang. It was Alan.
Alan said, "Elbert, where are you? I need your help with an experiment."
"I'm in the Oceanview District. I'll be there soon," Elbert replied before hanging up.
Inside the FutureTech Group's B4 floor, Mr. Brown put down his phone, looking worried.
He said, "Elbert is on his way. We're ten kilometers from the Oceanview District; it will take him about an hour."
General Jeffery held his breath, wanting to complain but knowing they needed Elbert's help.
Leonard interjected, "Why do I feel like this guy knows everything?"
Mr. Brown sighed. "Jeffery, it's just a coincidence. M-069 project is top secret, and our lab is heavily encrypted."
He then gave an instruction.
"When Elbert arrives, go out and lead him in; otherwise, he won't even find the door. "
Ten minutes later, the elevator doors on the B4 floor opened. A young man with his hands behind his back walked out slowly. The power testing field's monitors alerted the team, and everyone instinctively turned to the surveillance feed. They were stunned to see Elbert.
As he walked down the corridor, the metal doors requiring identity verification opened automatically. Nearly ten access doors opened one by one without him even raising a hand as if welcoming an emperor. Mr. Brown's mouth dropped open in shock.
'How was this possible?' thought him.
While everyone watched in disbelief, the massive metal door of the testing field rumbled open without setting off any alarms. Elbert walked in, hands behind his back, smiling brightly. "Hello, everyone. Sorry to keep you waiting!"
