Chapter 309 Going to School
"Wavehaven Elementary, the only fancy private school in the city center. It's got a classy vibe and is super safe," Elbert said, pointing at the screen.
"No way! Violent Bear, you're so harsh. Fine, I'll just cause a ruckus and get kicked out," Dennis grumbled.
Elbert smirked, "Well, let me tell you something. Three minutes ago, my company, Witness, invested in that school. We now own 38% of the shares, making us the biggest shareholder. So, no one's gonna expel you."
Dennis looked crushed.
Suddenly, Elbert's phone rang.
"Elbert, how's my precious grandson?" his mom asked.
Elbert glanced at the teary-eyed Dennis and nodded, "He's doing great. He'll make friends soon."
"Good to hear. By the way, did you know BioGen Innovations set up a hero academy in Wavehaven?" his mom added.
"What?" Elbert was caught off guard. He'd been busy with a business plan and hadn't heard the news.
Was BioGen Innovations' selection plan for modified humans already underway?
Elbert's mind raced with information. Sure enough, BioGen Innovations' 'Hero Training Program' kicked off yesterday, and they had a base in Wavehaven. They were picking people with unique traits from all walks of life. If selected, they could train at the academy and potentially undergo 'human evolution modification.'
"Elbert, I've got a secret to share!" his mom's excited voice came through, making Elbert uneasy.
"Our family isn't ordinary! Your missing dad was a famous genetic expert in Veridiania!" she exclaimed.
Elbert was stunned. His mom had never mentioned this, not even his dad's name.
As a kid, Elbert often asked about his dad, but as he grew older, he stopped, not wanting to bring up painful memories for his mother. Over time, the idea of a father faded from his mind.
Elbert's brow furrowed. After a moment's hesitation, he asked Robert Williams to dig up info on his dad from their family records.
Time seemed to slow down as Elbert waited, like a chained box about to be opened.
Information started to appear:
[Mother: Eleanor.]
[Father: Reid Perry.]
[Internationally renowned genetic expert, brain neuroscience expert!]
[In 1998, Reid made a groundbreaking discovery, claiming to have found the secrets of the human brain and could project the brain's world into images. But before Reid could go public with his research, he vanished without a trace!]
Seeing this info, Elbert felt a mix of emotions. He'd never met his dad, so there was no real connection, but he still felt incredibly overwhelmed.
"Elbert," Eleanor's voice came through again, "Can you take the test for that hero academy and become a hero? I told Stella my son is amazing, but she didn't believe me. I made a bet with her. I don't want you to undergo any experiments, but you can get a certification to prove it to them. Because I think you're the best."
Elbert sighed, "Mom, I'm not really cut out for that. I'm way stronger than them."
Dennis, who had been eavesdropping, snorted. He seemed to be thinking, 'I'm way stronger than you can imagine, too, but you didn't believe it!'
Elbert sighed again, "Mom..."
"Elbert, listen. Your dad left a message before he disappeared. He said you are his most perfect creation. You're not ordinary. Now that there's an opportunity, show it to others," Eleanor's tone became calm and meaningful.
Elbert was stunned. He noticed a piece of info: [From 1999 to 2004, Reid was a scientific advisor for the genetics department at VictoriaBioGen Innovations.]
Seeing this, Elbert's expression turned serious. After a moment, he said, "Mom, I promise you, I'll go to BioGen Innovations!"
"I'm glad to hear that. Just get the champion and bring honor to our family," Eleanor said.
Elbert sighed deeply, "Okay, I got it."
After hanging up, info about BioGen Innovations Hero Academy popped up. It was converted from an old university in Wavehaven. They were recruiting externally. Applicants had to pass an entrance test, then they'd be assigned to different groups. They'd undergo physical training and assessments, with unqualified individuals getting eliminated.
In the end, only 3% would get the chance for modification. Then they'd sign with BioGen Innovations and become reserve heroes for 1-4 months.
BioGen Innovations claimed this was to select the strongest bodies and ensure success rates of modification.
Elbert's face darkened. Wasn't this just like school, with classes, exams, and rankings? Eleanor used a variety of means to convince him, and he hadn't looked into it carefully.
Like other modification institutions, BioGen Innovations' core data was offline. To find out the truth, he had to infiltrate the enemy.
Dennis sneered, "Violent Bear, you asked for it. Congrats, you'll soon find a group of friends."
Elbert's forehead veins bulged, "Come here!"
