Chapter 285 Miracle? Science
All the villagers made their way to Elbert's fields from every direction, bowing down. Tears of excitement filled their eyes; they just couldn't hold back their emotions anymore.
City folks would never get it.
For these farmers, who'd battled hunger and cold their whole lives, seeing plants sprout was more thrilling than striking it rich. It meant hope.
The villagers got up, looking at Elbert like he was some kind of legend. They knelt and shuffled over to the altar, bowing before him.
The village chief, tears streaming down his face, said with a shaky voice, "Mr. Perry, you're a saint. With just a wave of your hand, plants sprout. It's a miracle!"
Master Debussy was floored, his mind racing!
This wasn't scientific! Seeds couldn't sprout this fast!
The village chief led the villagers in non-stop bowing, "Mr. Perry, you're incredibly powerful. Please help us!"
"Boss, please, you gotta help us!" the villagers begged.
Elbert slowly stood up, looking at the growing sprouts in the fields. He calmly said, "Dawn, you explain to everyone."
Still holding a water bottle and playing the assistant role, Dawn was caught off guard, "Me? Mr. Perry, I..."
Elbert turned back with a smile, looking at the flustered girl, "Yes, you."
The villagers followed Elbert's gaze to Dawn. They were puzzled. 'Could Dawn have some kind of miraculous powers too?' they wondered.
Dawn bit her lip, struggling for a moment.
Suddenly, a hint of determination flashed in her eyes! It seemed she had found her courage.
She took a deep breath, set the water bottle on the table, walked a few steps to the platform, and faced the villagers, "Everyone, this isn't a miracle! It's not magic! It's science! It's the power of knowledge!"
She pointed to the light brown soil in the distance, "The reason we can't grow crops here is because the soil has iron elements and is acidic! There are no evil spirits at work!"
"For crops, acidity is like poison! And Mr. Perry, he spent all night yesterday using lime to make alkaline fertilizer!" As Dawn spoke, she wiped the paint off her face, "He used drones to spread the fertilizer on the ground, detoxifying the soil!"
Even though the villagers didn't get the whole acidity and alkalinity thing, Dawn's way of explaining was super clear.
The words poison and detoxify hit home for the villagers.
They stared at Dawn, like they didn't even recognize this girl who'd lived in the village for over 20 years!
"As for sprouting, it needs water," Dawn said, looking at Elbert with a puzzled expression.
Elbert nodded gently, "Early this morning, I used a machine to channel underground water. The soil might look dry on the surface, but it's been thoroughly irrigated underneath!"
Dawn suddenly got it. She nodded excitedly and said loudly, "Mr. Perry found the water source. His fertilizer can speed up the sprouting of seeds."
"Normal soybean seeds can sprout in 4-6 hours under good conditions," she explained.
"Mr. Perry fertilized and watered in the morning, and now it's been 4 hours. The seeds had already sprouted, but the rain just now washed them out. This is precise control of the land through science," she said.
Dawn got more and more excited as she spoke, pulling off the crown on her head and standing tall.
"I hope the villagers won't be stubborn anymore, won't place their hope in deities. Only scientific knowledge is our way out," she shouted excitedly.
Elbert added, "Miss Dawn has studied hard and understands all the principles. She helped me in the process!"
The villagers were enlightened, deeply shocked.
They stared at the now confident Dawn, who seemed like a savior.
Dawn's father, Eamon, who had been sitting in the distance, was stunned. "Is this spirited girl my daughter? When did she learn so much? When did she become like a saint?"
Eamon looked at the distant soybean sprouts. Although weak, they were full of life, and he couldn't argue with any of this.
Unconsciously, hot tears streamed down his cheeks. He instinctively dropped to his knees, bowing respectfully in the direction of his daughter.
And Dawn wiped the paint off her face, threw away the crown, and returned to her true self.
This symbolized her farewell to superstition and return to herself.
"I am very fortunate to have Mr. Perry's help. I learned the real way to change the farmland. I believe that in Luxor, no one will go hungry anymore!" Dawn took a step forward and stood tall.
Under the scorching sun, she radiated an invisible light.
An intense sense of reverence rose in the villagers' hearts. They were extremely excited and shouted in unison, "Thank you, Mr. Perry, for your blessing! Thank you, Dawn, for your blessing!"
Eamon kept his forehead pressed tightly to the ground, his body trembling.
The ground slowly became wet with his tears; he was crying uncontrollably.
