Chapter 477 Accident
"You, a mere human, think you can threaten the ruler of Victoria? Today, I'll blow you to pieces!"
As the pilot spoke, the quantum cannon of the Osiris mech began to gather energy beams. Waves of heat radiated outward.
Sterling was shocked and shouted, "Elliott! Are you nuts? I'm still here!"
To his surprise, Elbert nodded in agreement.
Robert's voice echoed in his mind, "Confirmed! The Apocalypse Association's satellite just sent a signal. This pilot named Elliott has a control device implanted in his brain by the Apocalypse Association!"
Elbert's curiosity grew. The Apocalypse Association was like an invisible web, secretly controlling everything. What was their purpose in bringing the Osiris mech into the world?
"Robert, I can't wait to meet the president of the Apocalypse Association," Elbert said, looking up at the Osiris mech.
The Osiris mech's weapon was fully charged, ready to unleash a terrifying blast. The leaders of various nations grew tense. Such a spectacular scene was a rare sight in a lifetime—mech versus the king of cyborgs. Could Osiris really obliterate Paul Five?
Sterling had already jumped from the command cabin to the ladder, frantically running towards the deck. If that cannon fired, Paul Five's fate was uncertain, but Sterling would definitely be vaporized.
In this moment of extreme tension, the chest of the Osiris mech suddenly emitted a pneumatic sound. A piece of armor on its chest quickly rose and slid to the side, revealing the cockpit. Sunlight hit the pilot's face, leaving him stunned and confused.
The pilot's seat slid out on a track and ejected him into the air. He traced a perfect arc, parachute deploying, and landed in the sea. Unable to swim, he quickly sank.
Witnessing this, the spectators blinked hard and shook their heads in disbelief. What was happening? Wasn't the cannon supposed to fire? Why did the pilot eject?
The Osiris mech, now without further instructions from its pilot, powered down completely, standing motionless on the deck like a statue. Elbert continued to watch the spot where the pilot had sunk. As the pilot flew through the air, Elbert clearly saw his figure—a deformed man with a head twice the size of a normal person and arms and fingers extending past his knees.
Elbert had seen such a figure before, resembling the former hacker Left Shoulder. Left Shoulder, with his unique body, had become a top hacker but was a failed experiment of BioGen Innovations, exiled to society. This pilot must be a successful product, using his oversized brain and fingers to control advanced mechs. BioGen Innovations' technology came from the hidden Apocalypse Association, making everything clear.
Left Shoulder had a control device in his brain and died in an explosion. Now, this mech pilot, controlled by a device, ignored Sterling's orders and activated the Osiris mech. All signs pointed to the Apocalypse Association, which had complete control over such advanced technology.
"Apocalypse Association," Elbert murmured, surprised by the layers of their intricate plan.
A cough broke the silence. Elbert turned to see Sterling standing before him, one hand behind his back, the other covering his mouth to get Elbert's attention.
"Mr. Paul Five, as you can see, this is our nation's top military secret, the Osiris mech. I arranged for it to be displayed for your review," Sterling said, forcing a smile.
Elbert sighed lightly. Sterling, known as the international clown, could still offer such a flimsy explanation in this absurd situation. The Osiris pilot had clearly lost control and tried to kill him. Fortunately, Elbert had previously installed an ejection program in the Osiris mech when he 'borrowed' the Celestial Pioneer.
Looking at the helpless Sterling, Elbert felt speechless. Despite being the ruler of Victoria, Sterling was just a pawn in the Apocalypse Association's game.
"This mech is impressive," Elbert nodded slightly. "I almost got killed by it."
Sterling was stunned, expecting a storm of anger that never came. He didn't want to pursue the matter? Sterling's smile was more painful than a cry. In that instant, he realized that Paul Five could control the GUK-16 drone, so it was no surprise that the Osiris mech ejected under the same network.
Sterling looked up at the Osiris mech, eyes full of sorrow. This billion-dollar mech was nothing more than a toy to Elbert.
"I don't want to disrupt international peace. Victoria needs a ruler like you," Elbert said, walking away from the Osiris mech and stepping onto the sea surface, heading back to Phantom Island.
The next moment, Sterling's communicator buzzed with urgency.
"Sterling, you developed such technology!"
"What energy does your mech use?"
"We're allies; you can't keep this to yourself. We need to discuss this mech's technology!"
"With cyborgs rampant, we should jointly develop mechs!"
"What did you say to Paul Five? What just happened?"
"If the ejection system hadn't malfunctioned, could your mech have killed Paul Five?"
Malfunction? Sterling smiled bitterly. He took a deep breath and ordered the fleet to retreat. He glanced at Phantom Island with a complex expression and whispered into the communicator, "Paul Five and I have mutual respect. I don't intend to trouble him. Besides, he just said he almost got killed by my mech."
In the international fleet, Joshua, who had remained silent, touched the bandage on the back of his head. He spoke in a low voice on the public channel, "I've always said that nations should upgrade their military technology."
"Of course," Joshua's face darkened slightly, "if you want the most advanced robot technology, I have it and will share it freely."
