Chapter 40 The Turbulent Bank

"Elbert, where did you go?"

"Miss Brown just went out and couldn't find the driver." Carol stood in the doorway with her hands on her hips, a frown on her face. "So, Miss Brown punished you by making you take me on a date tonight."

"Get lost." Elbert smiled helplessly, bypassed Carol, and walked straight into Lori's office.

"Elbert, leaving your post during work hours will cost you this month's bonus," Lori said, sitting behind her desk. Her expression was cold as she gently wiped her hands.

On the coat rack beside her hung a white lab coat stained with blood, still slightly swaying.

"Miss Brown, did you just go out and kill someone?" Elbert joked.

Luckily, he knew Lori's true identity. Otherwise, the scene before him could easily lead someone to mistake her for an office serial killer.

"I just went to Gary Collins' place and performed a few surgeries," Lori said, gently putting down the wet wipe in her hand. Elbert noticed her hands trembling slightly from the extreme mental tension and fatigue.

Elbert was slightly taken aback. 'This girl is actually quite kind-hearted.'

"Elbert, take a look at this list." Lori pushed a document across the desk. Elbert glanced at it. The list was filled with medical supplies, including regular disinfectants, medications, and some commonly used medical instruments.

"I just made this list. These items are what Gary's hospital urgently needs," Lori said, her eyes slightly downcast. "Since Gary doesn't think much of our company, I'll donate these items to him in my personal capacity."

Lori continued. "But Gary doesn't seem to like me very much. Elbert, find some time to deliver these things to him tomorrow."

So that was how it was. Elbert nodded in realization. He couldn't help but think more highly of Lori.

"You don't understand Gary; his stance is actually very unstable." Elbert scratched his head and laughed. "Next time you go, just bring him a few bottles of good liquor, and he might even recognize you as his daughter."

Then, Elbert added to the end of the list: Whiskey, 3 cases.

Lori was taken aback. She vaguely remembered that the first thing Gary said to Elbert when they met last time was: "Young Elbert, why didn't you bring me any liquor?"

'Could it be that Gary is an old man who loves to drink?' she thought.

Lori made a note of it in her notebook. She instructed Carol to prepare the items on the list. Lori swiftly packed her personal bag and said, "Elbert, accompany me to the bank."

"Why are we going to the bank?"

"Obviously, to withdraw money."

"You're such a big shot, and you still need to withdraw money in person?"

"Why bother others if I can do it myself?"

She replied and left with Elbert.

Near the FutureTech Group office building, in front of Wavehaven Trading Company.

5:20 PM. Inside a van.

An elderly man sat in the back, a faint smile on his lips as he watched a row of surveillance screens. These screens displayed the surveillance footage from the bank across the street. The elderly man was at least over 70 years old, with grey hair and eyebrows. But he sat upright, exuding an extraordinary presence, his body strong like a man in his thirties or forties.

"Chief, there's 10 minutes left. Once the bank officially closes and the civilians leave, we can start our exercise," said a towering man standing behind him respectfully. His skin was dark, his muscles bulging, and his arm as thick as an average person's thigh. Standing in the 6.5-feet-high van, his head almost touched the roof.

The elderly man smiled slightly, looking very relaxed. "Leonard Reed, that old guy, is still so competitive at his age. Instead of focusing on his Super Police Unit, he insists on competing with my soldiers?"

"And he had to come up with this lousy idea of simulating a bank robbery?"

The towering man behind him couldn't help but shake his head, "Chief, with all due respect, Leonard's soldiers are no match for our team members."

"Of course, I know that." The strong elderly man smiled proudly. "But Leonard and I have been comrades for decades. So I have to pay some respect to him."

"As soon as I received his call, I set off immediately."

"For his sake, I only brought a few newly selected recruits this time so Leonard wouldn't lose too badly."

The elderly man said, chuckling mischievously like an old rascal. The towering man also shook his head slightly. Indeed, this time, they only brought a few new recruits who hadn't undergone training. The new recruits were far less capable than the official team members. But they were no slouches. They were personally selected by the Chief, top experts from various domestic teams. Each of them could take on a hundred enemies, battle-hardened. They are commonly known as the kings of soldiers.

The strong elderly man, who called these elite warriors "useless," was from Veridiania's most secretive special operations unit—ApexGuardians & VanguardSentinels.

He was the Chief of ApexGuardians, Jeffery Gray. The towering man was the only official member of ApexGuardians who accompanied Jeffery to Wavehaven and was the captain of ApexGuardians Team A—codename Grizzly. The "rookies" they mentioned were the carefully selected, one-in-a-million ApexGuardians recruits.

Grizzly pointed to a few positions on the screen where several "civilians" were either sitting or standing. "Chief, the six rookies are in position. Once the bank closes, Leonard's soldiers will also be in place. The rookies will disguise themselves as robbers and spring into action. If our soldiers manage to take the money, we win. If our people get stopped, they win."

Grizzly paused and added, "We've communicated with the bank, and there will be no casualties. You can rest assured."

"Good." Jeffery nodded slightly, a look of anticipation on his face. This kind of exercise was a first for him. His soldiers changed into plain clothes, disguised as bank customers. While the opponent's special forces were unaware, going to the bank to conduct business as arranged by their superiors. One side was the ApexGuardians rookies pretending to be robbers. The other side was the Wavehaven Super Police Unit encountering a bank robbery by chance.

Head-to-head. It seemed like a coincidence, but it was a deliberately arranged combat exercise.

"Leonard is overconfident. He will lose for sure." Jeffery leaned back in his chair and laughed. "Grizzly, let's sit back and enjoy the show."
