Chapter 419 UFO
Elbert nodded, retracing his steps before taking a leap and entering the UFO. Suddenly, a burst of white mist enveloped the craft, breaking the sound barrier in an instant and vanishing into the sky!
People stared up, stunned into silence. What just happened was beyond anyone's imagination!
Sterling was trembling. "Hey, can you get me back home? I need to chill out. Maybe this nightmare will just go away!"
Inside the UFO.
Robert's image flickered around the cockpit. "Whoa, this thing is huge!"
He switched between lounging on the control panel, clinging to the ceiling, and sprawling on the floor.
Elbert let out a small sigh, taking in the scene. The mysteries of the Mayan civilization were etched in his mind.
The whole design of the UFO was perfectly suited for humans! The cockpit, cargo hold, and control panel were all made for human use. And the operating system? It was all 3D graphics, no text, super easy for humans to get!
Elbert was starting to think this might be some advanced Earth tech. But the current control method used a genetic controller, letting Elbert off the hook while Robert managed the UFO through the network.
Still, Robert had locked many of the UFO's modules. Its algorithms and operational techniques were way ahead of human aircraft! Weapon systems, flight logs, stealth systems, and space jump functions were all still off-limits. It was gonna take time to figure it all out.
The inside of the UFO was spotless. No mess, no info, no clues.
In the cargo hold, there were stacks of lead containers filled with molybdenum. These weren't original to the UFO; they were made by Victoria52 District.
Elbert decided to take advantage of the situation. He grabbed everything, thinking it might be useful as fuel or absorbed by the UFO. He thought to himself, borrowing a couple of things, but he was a man of principle and planned to return them when he could.
Then, a piece of information popped up in Elbert's view.
Galaxy District. Located in Lumaria. On April 26, 1986, at 1:23 AM, the Galaxy District nuclear power plant exploded! The biggest nuclear disaster in human history!
A set of data showed the terrifying impact of the accident:
800 years: Experts say it'll take 800 years to clean up the aftermath of the Galaxy District nuclear leak, while the radiation under the reactor core will naturally decay over millions of years.
270,000 people: 270,000 people got cancer because of the Galaxy District nuclear leak, with 93,000 deaths.
340,000 people: After the nuclear leak, 110,000 people were evacuated from Galaxy District, and over the years, 230,000 more were relocated from heavily polluted areas, totaling over 340,000 evacuees.
Next, a map appeared in Elbert's view, centered around the Galaxy District nuclear power plant's No. 4 reactor, divided into three zones.
The first red circle covered 350 square miles, with nearly 1,000 villages evacuated. Now, only wild animals roamed, and it was dubbed a ghost town.
The second red circle spanned a 30-mile radius around the accident site, known as the deadly no-man's land. Even 30 years later, the air was still thick with isotopes of uranium, plutonium, iodine-131, cesium, and strontium-90. The average person's lifetime radiation exposure is 0.1 roentgen, 400 roentgens can be lethal, and in this deadly zone, radiation levels had long surpassed 15,000 roentgens!
The third red circle covered 40,000 square feet near the No. 4 reactor. After the explosion, Lumaria's government sent 70,000 brave soldiers to construct a massive concrete structure here, burying the reactor to contain the radiation. Sadly, nearly all of those soldiers were killed or injured by the radiation. This place became known as the "Sarcophagus."
800 pounds of highly radioactive uranium and graphite mixture were left there, and to this day, no one dared to approach!
Elbert squinted his eyes. The Sarcophagus was his next destination. If he could absorb it all, his DNA modification would be greatly enhanced. But this journey was fraught with danger. Rumor had it that in the deadly no-man's land and the Sarcophagus, there were many radiation-mutated creatures—terrifying and bizarre, beyond imagination. Many research teams ventured there and never returned, not even bringing back any information. Whether it was heaven or hell, only exploration would reveal!
Robert's voice chimed in, "Elbert, I've got good news and bad news. Which one do you want first?"
Elbert chuckled, "Hit me with the good news."
"The good news is, with the help of Celestial Pioneer, we can cover 4,600 miles and reach Galaxy District in just 40 minutes!"
Elbert was taken aback, "Celestial Pioneer?"
"Yeah, that's the name I just gave the big UFO."
Elbert shook his head with a grin. "That's not really good news. I might be heading to my doom in 40 minutes."
"Haha!"
Robert continued, "The bad news is, I haven't fully figured out Celestial Pioneer, and radioactive materials release nuclear electromagnetic pulses, which are high-energy electromagnetic waves that generate instant high voltage and high current, potentially damaging the electronic instruments on the ship. This is also why robots can't enter Galaxy District. So, Celestial Pioneer can only take you to the outskirts."
Elbert pursed his lips, "Robert, I feel like I'm walking into a death trap."
"Elbert, you gotta remember, the bigger the risk, the bigger the reward!"
Meanwhile, in a city below the UFO, a few young guys were using binoculars to spy on the girls' dormitory across the street. Suddenly, one of the binoculars swung up to the sky!
The guy behind the lens jumped, "Holy crap, a UFO!"
"Where? Where?"
"It's gone!"
"You're messing with us, right?"
"I'm serious, there was a UFO up there just now!"
"Quit lying, take this punch!"
