Chapter 259 I Don't Believe It

The old security door got kicked open with a bang!

A good-looking dude in a white shirt strolled in, grinning. "Why'd you leave 'em at the door?"

Left Shoulder was totally caught off guard!

In a panic, he tumbled off his chair and hit the floor!

That was when Elbert finally got a good look at the guy in front of him, and man, was he a sight!

Not a single hair on his head, but his noggin was like twice the size of a normal person's!

His fingers were all kinds of weird.

One was long and skinny, super flexible, and like twice as long as a regular finger!

The dude's face was pale and creepy.

At first glance, he looked like some malnourished, deformed kid!

Elbert squinted.

Left Shoulder’s appearance was a real shocker!

Robert Williams chimed in, "This guy's gotta be some kind of modified human! But he's a different breed, modified in the organs! His skull's been pumped up, and it looks like his brain got juiced with hormones, making it twice the size of a normal brain! His fingers got stretched out for easier computer work! This is wild. This guy's like a custom-made hacker!"

Elbert was kinda stunned. "They can use modification tech like this? That's just crazy!"

Left Shoulder was shaking and scooting back on the floor, pointing his long finger at Elbert. "Are you Paul Four? How'd you find me? This can't be happening!"

Elbert shrugged. "Abnormal power usage! Weird internet activity! Tons of takeout orders in a single apartment. And your Miluo function firewall took me a whole 3 minutes! Your hacking skills are the best I've seen, at least one-tenth of mine! Left Shoulder, you’re a real talent!"

Seeing Elbert getting closer, Left Shoulder was scared out of his mind!

"Paul Four! We hackers have our own code, you can't attack offline. If you got the guts, let's duel online!"

Elbert nodded. "Sure thing."

Saying that, Elbert walked over to Left Shoulder’s computer.

He calmly raised his hand and smashed it down hard!

With a loud crash, Left Shoulder’s computer desk crumbled!

Four computer screens shattered!

"Internet's down now. Let's chat about how you got modified."

Elbert found a chair and sat down slowly!

Left Shoulder’s face was even more terrified. "You’re a modified human!"

Elbert scratched his head. "I don’t even know how to explain it to you!"

Just then, a bunch of beeping sounds came from behind Left Shoulder’s huge head!

And Left Shoulder’s face stayed frozen in terror!

Robert Williams said, "He’s got electronic devices in his brain!"

But before Robert Williams could finish, Left Shoulder’s massive head exploded!

Looked like there was a micro-bomb in his brain, blowing a fist-sized hole in his skull!

Brain matter splattered all over the wall!

He died on the spot!

Elbert frowned!

The more he thought about it, the scarier it got!

How did the world get like this?

Elbert’s mind was racing!

It was clear as day!

In this brief moment, there was a huge conspiracy lurking!

"Robert Williams, dig into this!" Elbert odered.

"His real name’s Jared Hall, from Victoria, a vet, joined a secret military experiment three years ago. The experiment flopped, and he got dumped back into society! No info on the experiment process online! But I dug into Victoria’s official partner orgs, and the shadiest one is called Stellar Genetics Corporation! On the surface, it’s a high-tech pharma company, but there’s a 90% chance they’re into human modification research! As for the bomb in his brain. When someone senses danger, the hypothalamus releases a bunch of hormones, adrenaline, and endorphins. These hormones mix to create fear! When these hormones hit a certain level, they trigger the death fear level. In other words, the bomb figured Left Shoulder was in a fatal threat, and then it blew up."

Elbert rubbed his forehead.

Man, these confidentiality measures were brutal!

Straight up, weren't these modified humans from that organization just scaredy-cats waiting to drop dead?

Elbert took a deep breath, glanced at Left Shoulder, and bounced.

With Left Shoulder out of the picture, the hacker threat was toast.

But the world was already a hot mess!

The future looked like one big crisis waiting to happen!

He could only roll with the punches!

Elbert had just gotten back to Lab Graveyard.

Then, outta nowhere, there was a loud crash!

A dark figure fell from the roof of Lab Graveyard!

The dude's head went straight into the ground, legs sticking up in the air.

A metal bat followed, dropping from the sky and rolling to Elbert's feet.

Then, another slender figure floated down.

It was Summer.

The one who fell? Quentin.

Summer glared at Quentin and said to Elbert, "Bro, Quentin was up to no good. He was lurking on the rooftop skylight, planning to jump Dennis."

Elbert shook his head slightly.

He lifted Quentin with one hand.

Quentin's head popped out of the ground, and he grinned. "Paul Three, I just wanted to test your crew, starting with the little ones."

Elbert sighed softly. "Quentin, let me hit you with a riddle."

The upside-down Quentin smirked. "Shoot."

"If Dennis loses one hair, I'll break one of your legs. If he loses two hairs, I'll break one of your legs. If he loses three hairs, I'll break one of your legs. If he loses four hairs. Quentin, tell me, how many legs do you have?"

"I don't have that many legs."

Quentin was sweating bullets!

"Good that you know."

Elbert dropped Quentin and strolled into Lab Graveyard.

As soon as he walked in, he saw Melissa and Trinity looking worried. "Dennis is on a hunger strike."

Elbert pursed his lips and sighed.

'I gotta fend off hackers for the country and deal with kids at home. I'm wiped.'

Elbert walked up to the angry, pouting Dennis. "Who ticked you off?"

"Violent Bear! You said if I fixed the robot, you'd let me play on the assembly line." Dennis held up the newly repaired robot. "And I even upgraded it. Now it has 30 more moves than before! Plus, I listened to you in Riverside Town and spent a whole day playing professional fake smiles with you. What more do you want?"

Elbert scratched his head!

The assembly line was full of heavy machinery and high-precision gear!

It wasn't safe, so he had just made up an excuse!

And Dennis had some serious mechanical skills!

Elbert fiddled with the robot in his hand.

It was indeed fixed, and the circuit modules and joints were tweaked!

Robert Williams said, "This kid's got mad talent! This robot's repair is at least at a mechanical expert's level!"

Elbert sighed slightly. "Robert Williams, shut down the assembly line system and slap a password lock on it."

Robert Williams said, "But I was just about to make a radiation chamber to boost your body's evolution."

Elbert said, "Hold off on that."

Then Elbert put on a loving smile and said to Dennis, "I'm planning to find you a school. If you can score a hundred, I'll let you play on the assembly line."

"Violent Bear, I don't believe you."

Dennis pouted, dead set on resisting!

Just as Elbert was about to think of a way to handle the little rascal, the phone rang.

The caller was none other than General Jeffery, who hadn't hit him up in a while.

Elbert immediately felt something was off!

"Elbert, I'm sorry." Jeffery's tone was low, full of guilt, and a bit urgent. "Gary got nabbed by a group of mercenaries. They have a super-strong team of modified humans. Gary's status is currently unknown."

Gary got snatched at the border?

Elbert's expression darkened. "Give me the location!"

Three minutes later, Elbert's face was grim.

"Melissa, watch the kid!"

Elbert got up and bolted out the door!

"Summer! You're with me, and call Autumn! Quentin! Remember that riddle!"

LD000001 private helicopter approached from afar.

It was the first time Summer had seen Elbert so serious.

Without a word, she followed Elbert onto the private helicopter!

Their destination: the southern border of Veridiania.
