Chapter 314 Unfathomable
Elbert put the test tube back and pouted. "I've been wondering what's in this vial, but I can't figure it out. And honestly, the color is gross. It totally kills my appetite. No way I'm taking it!"
Elbert stood up, hands behind his back, looking all casual.
"I'm favoring you because you're from Veridiania, but you can't just do whatever you want!" Violet Moon frowned, clearly annoyed. "Do you think you can break all the rules?"
"Don't be like that," Elbert said, turning around with a grin. "I'm your student now, remember? As an instructor, you should cut me some slack. Who knows, I might surprise you! Also, I'm not staying here. When your team is ready, just call me. I promise I won't be late!"
With that, Elbert walked out, cool as a cucumber.
His laid-back attitude was all about keeping BioGen Innovations from knowing he was tight with Veridiania.
Violet Moon watched him go, feeling helpless.
This guy didn't care about being a hero; he was just so chill and carefree!
Violet Moon's frown deepened, but she decided to let it slide for now.
There was more training ahead!
If he turned out to be all talk and no action, she'd deal with him then.
She had a mission and couldn't afford to miss any potential talent!
Outside the testing grounds, a bunch of applicants waited nervously.
Suddenly, the number of qualified people on the big screen changed from 5 to 6!
Everyone's heart skipped a beat!
Since the standards went up, only one person had made it through!
It was that guy in the white shirt!
Everyone was shocked!
But soon, they all looked impressed.
The proof was right there; they had to accept it!
That guy passed the entrance test and could stay at BioGen Innovations. Even if he didn't become a hero, his future looked bright!
They all wished it was them!
Ten minutes later, Elbert walked out slowly.
Everyone watched him, eyes full of envy!
Seeing Elbert leave alone, no one dared to approach him.
They just watched from a distance.
No doubt, this guy's punch strength was a crazy 600 pounds!
That was some serious power!
He wasn't a superhero yet, but who'd mess with a man that strong?
Only the rich kid in the suit looked pissed.
The rich kid almost crumpled his number ticket! 'He actually passed the entrance test? Fine, very fine! This just makes it more interesting! I'll be waiting for you at the Hero Academy! I'll make you regret crossing me!'
Back at the Lab Graveyard, Elbert went straight to the lab bench.
The 'none' on his wrist dissolved like water, revealing a drop of blue liquid.
It was from the vial.
Elbert put the blue liquid on a slide and checked it out under a microscope.
There were weird, active cells in the liquid.
Robert Williams analyzed, "This is an active enzyme, a DNA hydrolase, which breaks the bonds holding DNA molecules together. Basically, it changes the DNA strands for later tweaking! This liquid also has some stuff to boost physical fitness, but not by much. But this DNA hydrolase is really odd! It looks like it's been artificially mutated. Once it gets into the human body, without any control, it could do all sorts of crazy things, like complete DNA mutation, killing the host, or turning them into a freak, a monster, and so on..."
Elbert frowned as he stared at the nasty hydrolase under the microscope.
BioGen Innovations was definitely up to something shady with this vial!
This mutated enzyme was a double-edged sword!
Sure, it could change DNA for body modifications, but it was also super risky!
Without special drugs to control it, things could go south real fast!
Elbert was sure this was BioGen Innovations' way of keeping their modified people in check!
It didn't matter how they controlled those Victoria heroes, but if they started using the Hero Academy to mess with Veridianias, that'd be a huge problem!
Elbert sighed.
Now that he knew, he couldn't just ignore it!
He dove back into his research.
Robert Williams quickly ran simulations, trying to find a way to neutralize the enzyme.
By the time his research started showing results, it was already five in the afternoon.
When Elbert drove to the city, he saw a bunch of luxury cars parked outside Hero Elementary School.
Dennis, noticeably shorter than the others, walked out slowly, surrounded by a group of older kids treating him with respect.
Elbert smiled to himself. Looked like the kid was fitting in just fine!
That evening, two beautiful women sat on the balcony of a high-end residence in Wavehaven, overlooking the city lights, each lost in thought.
If Elbert saw this, he'd be shocked!
One of the women, in a floral dress with a sweet, delicate face, was Seraphine from Hero Elementary School!
The other was Violet Moon, the instructor at BioGen Innovations Hero Academy, whose real name was Sofia!
"Sis," Seraphine said, sipping her juice, "We had a weird kid in class today. He's three years younger than the others! But he scored 148 on the entrance IQ test! Total genius! I've never seen such a high score, and he's so young. What really blew my mind is that he got all the older kids to respect him and call him boss in just one day. I couldn't stop them!"
Sofia smiled slightly, "They're just playing around!"
Then, a hint of frustration crossed Sofia's face. "Speaking of which, we had a strange guy at our testing base today too! I can't quite figure him out. He seems incredibly strong but also super stubborn!"
Sofia took a sip of her wine, "What's most annoying is that he doesn't follow any of the base's rules! I even recommended him to my superiors. I hope he doesn't make me look bad!"
Seraphine giggled and massaged Sofia's shoulders, "Sofia, you're amazing. You'll definitely get him to follow the rules! But I'm different. I deal with little kids. I can't hit them or scold them! By the way, that 4-year-old student's dad is really handsome! If he weren't already married, I might pursue him!"
Sofia shook her head with a smile, "Don't worry, my student is also very handsome. I'll introduce him to you sometime!"
"Really? A big hero?" Seraphine's eyes sparkled, "Sofia, you better keep your word!"
