Chapter 271 Enemy Attack
"I messed up big time! Of all times, those mercs had to stir up trouble now! They're always petty. This is straight-up payback!"
Jeffery was fuming and snatched the tablet.
Eyes bulging, he growled, "They got a death wish! Still pushing forward? They dare cross the border?"
Elbert stayed cool as a cucumber.
Just three days ago, Jeffery and the Apex Guardians had crossed the border to save Gary.
"Commander Jeffery, they got the nerve to send drones to spy on us. Looks like they want more than just crossing the border; they might be here to wipe us out!"
Elbert shook his head.
Red Brow, nearby, snapped his eyes open at the mention of 'cross the border.'
He was in agony, trembling all over, but still managed to grit out, "Damn it, border crossers gotta die! Let me at 'em!"
But Red Brow was wrapped in bandages, using all his strength just to fight the meds.
He tried with all his might but couldn't budge from his seat.
And it wasn't just him.
Even the other Apex Guardians, hearing about the border crossing, immediately widened their eyes!
They all struggled to get up.
But their modifications weren't done yet, and they were weaker than regular folks!
Still, a fierce fire burned in their eyes!
Elbert suddenly got it!
His gaze turned deadly serious!
1.3 miles away, that white line of mud and ash and that tiny boundary marker.
How much it meant to these border guardians!
Crossing the border meant invading the turf!
It was unforgivable!
Jeffery handed over the tablet, grabbed his gun, and cocked it!
"These mercs think they can waltz into Veridiania and shoot up my turf? Not on my watch! You guys focus on your mods! I'll lead the charge myself!"
Jeffery raised his arm, and the few logistics folks in the camp armed up and rushed out of the tent!
But how could Jeffery and a logistics team of less than a hundred stop thousands of mercs?
The Apex Guardians soldiers were livid!
Gritting their teeth, spitting in pain, they watched the tense situation but were helpless!
They cursed angrily. "Kill 'em! Bunch of bastards!"
A few bright flashes streaked across the sky, and several missiles flew in from a distance!
This time, there weren't just recon cameras but real rockets!
The enemy aimed to bomb the base!
Autumn stayed calm, kneeling on one knee, firing a heavy sniper rifle non-stop!
The missiles exploded in the air, none reaching the ground!
With Autumn alive, it was like an invisible shield protected the base!
Gary's face turned red. "This ain't gonna cut it! Elbert!"
At that moment, Elbert had already rolled up his sleeves!
His face was stern like the grim reaper!
"With me here, everyone can chill! Autumn, keep the skies clear! Summer, stay at the base and watch for sneak attacks!"
Elbert slowly walked into the open space!
"Elbert, don't screw up this time; the enemy's packing heavy firepower!" Jeffery grabbed a machine gun, looking like he was ready to go out in a blaze of glory, gearing up to charge with Elbert. "You don't need to jump in!"
Elbert's right eye glowed purple, his muscles tensed like coiled springs!
"Quit messing around, now's not the time to show off!" Jeffery yelled!
But then, with a boom, dust flew everywhere!
Elbert stomped the ground so hard it left a deep crater!
He shot up like a rocket!
That insane leap sent him a hundred feet into the air!
Then, the white blur leaped again, vanishing into the dense forest in a flash!
Jeffery stood there, rooted to the spot.
That guy was insanely strong.
In a heartbeat, Jeffery roared, "We can't just stand here, everyone else, charge with me!"
"Jeffery!" Gary waved frantically from the tent door, "You old fool, don't mess things up for Elbert!"
Three miles away.
The Apex Guardians' radar was spot on!
It was a merc team of 1,800!
They wore camo, carried submachine guns, and had grenades strapped to their waists!
Leading the way were 7 tanks and 4 armored vehicles, smashing through trees like they were twigs!
On a big-ass tank!
A dude with a scar across his face, arms crossed, looking fierce!
His body was covered in scales too!
A comms soldier ran up and climbed onto the tank.
"Captain Hill, we're less than half a mile from the Veridiania border! Are you sure you wanna cross this death line?" The comms soldier looked scared!
"Screw the death line! They killed my brothers! I'll grind them to dust!" Captain Hill grabbed a shoulder-mounted missile launcher from a nearby soldier and fired like a madman!
Four Stinger missiles launched wildly towards the camp!
Captain Hill yelled, "Veridiania, my ass! I'm crossing this border today! My brother left me a message, it's just a small camp! I'll blow it to pieces! I got the whole Lizard Mercenary Group here, 1,800 men! Enough to flatten them! Veridiania won't have time to send reinforcements! So what if I kill them all? They come for revenge? Can they find me? I don't belong to any country!"
With that, the scar-faced man waved his hands and shouted to the troops behind him, "Charge! Cross the Veridiania border and kill all Veridiania soldiers! I'll pay $100,000 for each head!"
The mercs behind him went nuts, raising their guns and roaring!
"But Captain Hill, the enemy seems to have missile interception weapons!" The comms soldier was still nervous, "Our missiles exploded in the air! The enemy's not just any team!"
"What do you mean, not just any team? Didn't you see the footage just now? It's just a camp of a few hundred people! You cowardly piece of crap!" The scar-faced man ignored him, his eyes already bloodshot!
