Chapter 35 Admit Your Mistake
Suddenly, a fierce battle anthem echoed in the ears of Black Fox's group. In an instant, it felt as if the wind howled across a desolate wilderness. Thousands of troops seemed to be charging heroically, with a general standing atop a pile of bones. His crimson cape fluttered in the wind, with a blood-red sunset ominously flickering behind him.
The man suddenly turned his head, and a majestic aura burst forth. Though his name was unknown, his heroic spirit soared to the heavens.
Black Fox's group trembled all over, their bodies seemingly inclined to kneel and worship. Then, the battle anthem stopped abruptly. They shook their heads vigorously, finding themselves back in the familiar office. Only the unconscious strongman, Jack, on the floor, reminded everyone that a demon god was leisurely sitting there.
Elbert, the young man in the white shirt, was turned slightly away from the three. He took a deep drag on his cigarette, exhaled slowly, and gazed out the window. This otherwise ordinary action made everyone present break out in goosebumps. At this moment, no one dared to underestimate him. For some reason, every casual move of his carried an irresistible momentum. He seemed like a contemporary hero.
"You guys be the judge," Elbert said, breaking the deathly silence of the room.
Black Fox's group instantly panicked. They watched as Elbert exhaled another smoke ring and continued, "Someone in the black market actually put up 5 million to put a bounty on my head. Someone as kind-hearted and harmless as me?"
Black Fox's throat instantly went dry. He wanted to speak but was too terrified to do so. Elbert slowly turned his head, revealing a wicked smile. "Black Fox, right? tell me, is this fair?"
'You tell me the fairness? 'Black Fox thought. 'You single-handedly took down my entire Luminous Nights Club and even punched through my bulletproof door. You scared me shitless, and you're talking to me about fairness?'
"Sir, perhaps there's been a misunderstanding between us. I'm just..."
Black Fox was about to make excuses but suddenly remembered Elbert was a surveillance expert. He wiped his cold sweat and gritted his teeth. "Alright, sir, I do deal in black market business, but we have no personal grudges against you..."
"Shut up." Elbert flicked the ash off his cigarette and said lightly. "There's no place for you to speak here; I'm asking Black Fox."
'What?' Black Fox, who was about to speak, suddenly choked up, cold sweat streaming down. Otis, beside him, was also dumbfounded and stammered, "Sir, the one sitting in front of you is our Black Fox."
Elbert smiled faintly. "The underground boss of the Wavehaven is extraordinary. Not someone as useless as him. However, Black Fox, I have a short temper; I only give you 10 seconds to come over and apologize."
The scene instantly fell silent. Time seemed to stand still. Sitting behind the desk, the real 'Black Fox' clearly heard Elbert's words but did not move.
A soft sigh was heard. It was a woman's sigh, as soft as an orchid, mixed with helplessness, reluctance, and submission.
The beautiful woman standing quietly behind 'Black Fox' slowly stepped forward. She gracefully approached Elbert, gritted her teeth, and bowed 90 degrees. "I apologize to you, sir."
Having worked in the Black Fox gang for six years and already a senior figure, Otis was completely stunned.
'Isn't this woman named Melissa, Black Fox's personal maid? How did she become Black Fox?'
'This is impossible.' Otis's mind went blank.
"Admitting your mistake is a good start." Elbert smiled playfully. "Your tactics are indeed brilliant. No one would have thought that the real underground boss of the Wavehaven, Black Fox, is actually the maid beside 'Black Fox.'"
Melissa's face turned extremely sullen. She had maintained her fake identity for six years, manipulating everything from behind the scenes. The strongman was just a puppet she used to divert attention, avoid enemies, and hide her true identity. But what confused her was that the stranger in front of her easily saw through all these meticulous arrangements without any warning.
Elbert chuckled. "I have all the information about your entire Black Fox gang, every casino, every bar, every business. Your underlings are no match for me, whether now or in the future. You have no chance of defeating me. Most importantly, Miss, I also know your true identity, which would scare anyone to death."
Melissa's expression froze. She looked at Elbert in horror, unable to remain calm.
'Who is this man? How does he know everything? My identity. Exposing the Black Fox identity is one thing. Does this person know even more? Could he know about my father and my family?' Deep fear filled her heart.
'My father must never find out about these things I did.' she thought.
"Sir, please spare me." The woman didn't dare hesitate, bowing again, not rising. Her body trembled as she said, "Sir, we can immediately revoke the bounty on you and bring your enemy to you at your disposal as quickly as possible. Moreover, from now on, my Black Fox gang will only listen to you, and I'm willing to be your lifelong servant. Just please, don't expose me."
Elbert chuckled again. This was exactly what he wanted. Elbert's initial plan was not just to remove the bounty on his head. He first gathered all the information about Black Fox, using phone threats to intimidate him from the start. Then, Elbert personally arrived. Single-handedly taking on the entire Black Fox gang, once again intimidating through force.
What Elbert wanted was to completely subdue this underground gang in the Wavehaven, to use them for himself, and to eliminate all future threats in one go.
Elbert lit another cigarette and said softly, "Do you know who put up the 5 million bounty on my head?"
The real Black Fox boss, Melissa, suddenly realized why this person seemed familiar. She nodded slightly. "Yes, the person's name is Willard Ramirez, a vice president at the FutureTech Group."
'Willard Ramirez? Shouldn't it be Rex?' Elbert was momentarily stunned.
Sensing Elbert's confusion, Robert started a search in his database. He quickly found out that Willard was indeed a vice president at the FutureTech Group and one of the people setting up the formation for Lori.
Elbert immediately understood; it seemed Rex wasn't stupid and used others as scapegoats.
"Did you also receive a task to kidnap the FutureTech Group's Lori?" Elbert asked again.
Melissa's eyes flashed with panic, and she nodded. "Yes, it was also commissioned by Willard."
"Do you need me to bring Willard here immediately?" Melissa asked softly.
"No. Spread the word in the underworld, and I want to buy Willard's teeth, one for a million, one per day." Elbert's eyes narrowed. The half-burnt cigarette in his hand emitted smoke, but his words were chilling.
Even the mighty underground boss of the Wavehaven, Melissa Clark, was stunned.
'One tooth for a million. One per day. Wouldn't that make countless people want to knock out Willard's teeth? The scariest part—one tooth per day. A mouthful of teeth could be knocked out over 20 times. Wouldn't Willard be living in constant fear of being attacked every day? How desperate would that be?'
But what Elbert was thinking about was not Willard's misery. It was about how Rex would react when he found out that his hired hitman failed and that his subordinate was being hunted, losing a tooth every day.
'What kind of expression would he have?' he thought with an evil smile.
When Melissa looked at Elbert again, she saw a kind of indescribable ferocity in his faint smile—terrifying, ruthless, even demonic, sending chills down her spine.
She knew she must never anger him again, or she would die without a trace.
Melissa's body trembled uncontrollably, and she said softly, "Sir, would you like to meet some of the leaders of our gang?"
Elbert shook his head. "First of all, you keep your position. And I just want to be the man behind the scenes quietly. If there's anything in the future, I'll contact you."
"Secondly, my name should never be mentioned in the gang again."
Then, Elbert stood up and slowly walked towards the door, saying over his shoulder, "In the future, you can call me by my alias—Paul White"
