Chapter 283 Borrowing a Day

Even though the area was huge, most of it was just desert, red soil, and salty-alkali dirt.

Luxor Village sat right on that red soil.

If a seasoned geologist showed up, they'd probably figure out there was a ton of iron or aluminum ore underground.

That was why the soil was red and acidic!

With the messed-up pH levels, plants had a hard time growing.

Sure, iron ore was worth a lot. But Elbert wanted to keep it under wraps to avoid messing up the local ecosystem and displacing the villagers.

Elbert looked at Dawn and said gently, "Dawn, you gotta have more confidence in yourself."

Dawn was thrilled. It was the first time her knowledge got some recognition.

But then, she felt a bit down. What good was it to know the reason? The village was still poor and backward, with no way to fix it.

Elbert tossed the soil back to the ground, dusted off his hands, and turned with a slight smile.

He told the village chief, "I need a warehouse, a bunch of iron barrels, and water."

The village chief looked puzzled but nodded and went to make arrangements.

Late at night, in a big cowshed, the cows were shooed out by the village chief. Two candles were lit, and the stuff was all set up.

Elbert and Dawn, just the two of them, were in the room.

Of course, Elbert was just waiting with his eyes closed while Dawn was a bit confused and sleepy.

Finally, there was a noise outside the door.

An old, beat-up Mercedes-Benz pulled up, with white smoke billowing from the engine. It was the driver who had brought Elbert earlier.

"Boss, I got everything you asked for. But my car's toast. You did say you'd get me a new one," he said.

The driver wiped the sweat off his forehead, huffing and puffing as he unloaded bag after bag of goods.

Elbert checked the goods one by one and smiled, "Of course!"

Dawn perked up. Looking at the white bags, she exclaimed, "Lime! Ammonium bicarbonate! Calcium-magnesium phosphate alkaline fertilizer!"

The driver grinned, "Yep, you know your stuff. I had to scour all over Starglow City to get these!"

Dawn's breathing quickened as she realized, "Mr. Perry, you want to neutralize the soil's acidity and fertilize it to speed up plant growth."

Elbert nodded slightly, "Dawn, tonight I'll prep the fertilizer. Watch closely!"

After unloading the car, Elbert got to work. Mixing, diluting, constantly prepping barrels of liquid.

Dawn was super excited. It was like discovering a new world.

She bounced around helping and even brought a notebook to jot down Elbert's every move.

Every now and then, Dawn would gasp, "That bag of lime must weigh at least 110 pounds! How can Mr. Perry lift it with just two fingers?"

Outside the cowshed, at a far corner of the wall, Dawn's dad, Eamon Sinclair, was leaning against it, watching the dimly lit cowshed and gritting his teeth.

"Damn it! Dawn! Damn Veridiania man! He took my daughter! How will I face anyone now?" he kept cursing in his head.

He wanted to storm in and beat up Elbert so many times. But remembering how Elbert handled that ruler, he figured he'd just end up getting his own butt kicked.

So, Eamon watched from the wall all night.

Luckily, the cowshed was simple enough that he could see the Veridiania man didn't lay a hand on his daughter.

By dawn, the sky was already light. Elbert and Dawn looked at the ten big barrels of solution in front of them, feeling pretty satisfied!

Dawn wasn't tired at all. She said animatedly, "Mr. Perry, I'll go find the village chief now and get the villagers to help with the fertilizing!"

Elbert shook his head slightly, "98 acres of land, fertilizing would take 10 days. How can that be called a miracle?"

Dawn was puzzled, "Then what will you do?"

Elbert looked off into the distance, "Wait a little longer, our tools are coming!"

An hour ago, in Evalia's neighboring country, Andrastan, at the Air Radar Command Center, the commander, who was enjoying his morning tea, suddenly got an urgent message.

Their drone command system had been hacked.

Four agricultural spraying drones under research had been taken over by unknown orders. They automatically refueled and took off.

The commander dropped his cup and rushed to the control room.

He saw his planes crossing the border, heading towards the edge of Evalia.

"My God! Someone's taken my planes!" The commander shouted in panic, ordering all technical personnel to fix the situation fast!

The tech team was in despair, "Commander, the other side's tech is advanced. Our system's been hijacked. We can't do anything!"

The commander was furious, slamming the table, "Nonsense! We spent billions on this system. How can it be so fragile? I'm telling you, there's no other possibility. You must get those planes back. Those are our billion-dollar research results. Not a single one can be lost!"

While the commander was fuming, the communicator reported again, "Sir, as per your instructions, we have two ground drilling machines suspended with unmanned transport aircraft, ready to take off at any time!"

"What? Damn it, I didn't give such an order. Take them down immediately!" The commander already sensed something was wrong and shouted urgently.

"Sir, the unmanned transport aircraft have already taken off automatically!" The communicator reported again in a desperate voice.

The commander was sweating, "Get me the Air Force Command, send out fighter jets to track them and contact the diplomats immediately, protest to the Evalia government!"

"Who is so bold to steal my planes?" he asked himself.
