Chapter 262 The Mutant

Beyond the southern edge of Veridiania, it looked like just another sleepy village from afar.

But nah, most of the houses were totally deserted!

Armed guards in full gear, all looking mean as hell, were patrolling non-stop!

This place? It was the mercenaries' crib!

These folks were straight-up killers and arsonists, all about that cash! Just a bunch of rogue international crooks.

Inside a beat-up wooden shack, an old dude in a white tank top and flip-flops was sitting there, drunk and red-faced.

Empty bottles of all kinds of booze, including Veridiania's finest, were scattered all around him!

"Yummy!"

Gary leaned back in a creaky chair, downing another shot of liquor.

This guy? Yeah, that was the kidnapped Gary!

"Lizard Freak. I've been stuck in Jeffery's camp for over two months, and they got this no-drinking rule that's driving me nuts. What other booze you got in your stash? Hook me up?"

Gary, all tipsy and hazy, said to a big, scowling mercenary next to him.

The guard turned his head, showing off a face straight out of a nightmare.

His skin was all dry and covered in snake-like scales, lips purple, and eyes yellow!

He was gripping his gun tight, nails sharp like claws!

In a low, growly voice, he said, "Don't call me Lizard Freak, I'm human. Name's Hawthorne Chamberlain, also known as Death Claw, with a 3 million dollar bounty on my head! You're almost out of booze, thanks to you. When you gonna start working?"

Gary smacked his lips and said, "Let's chat after another drink."

Suddenly, the rickety door got kicked open!

In walked a dude in a leather jacket, also covered in scales!

Even his forehead had got these little bumps, like they were gonna turn into horns or something!

He looked more like a monster than a man!

He scanned the room, eyes cold as ice!

He strode over to Gary.

His gnarly face got real close to Gary's, teeth grinding. "You better not be messing with us! Not only are you still breathing, but we've also given you everything you asked for. You got three days to whip up that cyborg serum! Or else..."

Gary chuckled and reached out. "Chill, I need to rest up to work right, capisce?"

"You're wasting my time!" Leather-armored Lizardman suddenly lunged, his scaly hand with sharp nails aiming for Gary's neck!

Gary tilted his head back, face saying, "Bring it on!"

Leather-armored Lizardman's hand stopped short!

He gritted his teeth, making a nasty grinding sound!

"You old bastard!"

His eyes flashed with rage, but he pulled back and waved his hand behind him!

Then, a bunch of mercenaries in protective suits dragged in a guy by his hair.

They tossed him into the room, right onto the floor!

The guy had gold-rimmed glasses and a beat-up, blood-stained white coat.

He looked like some kind of professor or doctor.

But right now, his face was all yellowish, lips pale, and eyes sunken!

He was struggling to breathe.

Leather-armored Lizardman walked up and yanked his hair.

The guy coughed a few times, lost a couple of teeth, and spat out blood.

Leather-armored Lizardman said coldly, "Take a good look. If you don't play ball with our research, this is what's coming for you."

Leather-armored Lizardman extended his sharp claws and crushed the guy's head!

The headless body slumped backward!

Gary shut his eyes in pain, muttering, "He's been with you for a while, huh? With all that radiation, death's probably a mercy."

Leather-armored Lizardman sneered. "Typical military doc, figuring out our base's secrets in no time? Better cooperate with our research, or you'll end up like him!"

Gary lowered his head, rummaging through the bottles, looking for any leftover booze.

Finally, he found a bit and slowly poured it on the ground. "Rest in peace, old friend."

"Old man, remember, you got three days! Or I'll crush your skull."

Leather-armored Lizardman roared!

Gary chuckled. "Three days? Too bad I only gave myself two hours. After that, someone will show up and stop me from drinking!"

"Rescue?"

Leather-armored Lizardman laughed maniacally, "Every professor has said that! And what happened? None of the rescue teams ever came back! Our village is surrounded by the bones of rescuers. In the end, even your country will ditch you! No one can beat my Lizard Mercenary Corps! All our soldiers are B+ cyborgs! No matter who comes to save you, I'll tear them apart! Old man! Forget about that. Think about how to help with the research and save your own skin."

Looking at the ferocious and terrifying Leather-armored Lizardman, Gary still smirked. "Then let me tell you a scary fact, my kid's coming to save me!"

"Old man! If you weren't useful, I'd snap your neck right now! Remember, you got three days, or you'll be a headless corpse! Hawthorne, keep an eye on him!"

Leather-armored Lizardman roared a few times and slammed the door as he left!

Watching the body being dragged out of the room, Gary mourned, then felt bored.

He suddenly noticed the metal flask on the guard's waist.

His eyes lit up. "Lizard Freak, you got booze."

The guard suddenly clutched his waist, exclaiming, "This is mine!"

Gary licked his lips. "Lizard Freak, let's make a deal! If you give me the booze, I promise my kid will spare your life."

The guard instantly bared his fangs. "Old man, are you nuts?"
