Chapter 180 A sudden downpour
Five minutes later, Midnight ended the call. He said with a fierce look, "You're the ones who challenged us, so don't be afraid to show up later!"
"Enough of your games!" Black Fox snarled, kicking Midnight to the ground. He gestured to his men, who roughly dragged the whimpering gangster away.
"Then I should tell you, Boss says you won't make it out of this!"
Midnight's laughter echoed through the room, laced with malice.
The air crackled with tension. This confrontation, Paul Two orchestrated was about to explode. He had instructed Black Fox to invite not only Brother Seven, but also leaders from various other gangs – turning this into a public display of power.
Black Fox, however, felt uneasy. He understood the implications of a gang challenge. This wasn't a brawl; it was a declaration of war. A fight to the finish, with the loser surrendering their territory and slinking away in defeat. The presence of spectators? They were witnesses to the victor claiming their spoils.
"Mr. Paul," Black Fox began, his voice apprehensive, "I understand your plan. We cripple the Dragon Pride Syndicate in one decisive blow and cement our dominance, but..."
"But?" Elbert raised an eyebrow, silencing him.
"Their numbers, sir. They outnumber us three to one, and their leader, Vortex, is a force to be reckoned with. I fear..."
Elbert cut him off with a wave of his hand. "You misunderstand. I don't just want to win; I want to obliterate their spirits and shatter the Dragon Pride Syndicate completely."
"But... how?" Black Fox stared at him, bewildered.
Melissa, standing silently beside them, felt chills down her spine. She prayed for a swift resolution, dreading the potential carnage.
Around midnight, with a downpour.
The abandoned Wavehaven North Suburb Stadium, desolate and echoing, became the battleground.
On one side, two hundred Black Fox members stood in the pouring rain, gripping makeshift weapons. Melissa held a black umbrella over Elbert, who sat calmly on a folding chair with a cigarette in his lips. Midnight, stripped to his underwear and bound, knelt at his feet.
The sound of approaching footsteps grew louder, heralding the arrival of the Dragon Pride Syndicate. Six hundred men swarmed onto the field, a sea of muscle and menace wielding weapons each. They formed ranks opposite the Black Fox, their leader stepping forward.
"Release Midnight," he yelled, his voice amplified by six hundred roars behind him. "And maybe, just maybe, we'll let you live to regret this day!"
Black Fox felt a surge of anger. Vortex and Raven were conspicuously absent. They were truly arrogant. "Where are Vortex and Raven?" he spat. "Too cowardly to face us yourselves?"
Elbert, however, merely smiled, taking another drag from his cigarette.
On the sidelines, beneath a canopy of black umbrellas, the invited gang leaders of Wavehaven watched with bated breath. This was a spectacle unseen in over a decade, a clash that promised to redraw the city's underworld.
Among them, Brother Seven and his lieutenants observed the unfolding drama.
His face was worried. The Dragon Pride Syndicate was a force of nature, their aggression undeniable. In contrast, the Black Fox, outnumbered and with many sporting fresh injuries, looked like a battered, defeated force. He closed his eyes, foreboding washing over him. It seemed they were destined for destruction tonight.
"Mr. Seven," Brother Five whispered, straining to see the young man seated under the umbrella. "I hear this new Black Fox boss, Paul Two, is a capable fighter."
"Don't fool yourself," Brother Seven sighed, his voice heavy with experience. "Six hundred men, armed and enraged? Even if he's a prodigy, capable of taking on a hundred men, what difference does it make? He's one man against an army."
Brother Three nodded grimly. "Vortex's absence is an insult, a statement. They don't even consider Paul Two or the Black Foxes a threat."
Sighs of resignation passed through the group.
"Black Fox," Elbert's voice cut through the air, calm amidst the storm. "If I fall, you know what to do."
Black Fox chuckled with no humor. "Don't joke, Mr. Paul. I'm no match for you. If you go down, I doubt I'll even be able to stand."
"What? Wait!" his blood ran cold as he grasped Elbert's words. "Mr. Paul, what do you mean 'if you fall'? You're not..."
Elbert smiled faintly, pulling a black cloth from his pocket. "Let's just say... none of you will need to lift a finger tonight."
He began to slowly tie the cloth over his eyes.
"Sir?" Melissa's voice trembled.
'Was he truly going to blind himself?' While she wanted to interrupt, his outstretched hand stopped her, offering no room for argument.
Numbly, she took the black cloth and secured it over his eyes. "Sir, I..."
"Don't worry," Elbert's voice was soft, yet it echoed across the hushed stadium. "I'll go easy on them."
Melissa's breath hitched.
'The confidence in his voice, the sheer audacity of his statement... Did he truly believe this army before him posed no threat?' she felt both worried and excited.
After getting blindfolded, Elbert stood up.
And then, he walked into the rain.
Silence descended. The Black Fox gang watched, speechless as he approached the Dragon Pride Syndicate while blindfolded.
Was it madness? Suicide?
But as Elbert moved, powerful aura seemed to emanate from him; strong energy that even the driving rain couldn't diminish.
