Chapter 431 Yulia Village

The massive vines in front of them had grown so dense that they formed an impenetrable barrier, rooted firmly in the ground and converging in the sky. Elbert's curiosity about this small village only deepened. It was undoubtedly a mysterious place, with no information available about it online.

Wendy approached the vines, and to Elbert's surprise, they began to tremble slightly. Then, something extraordinary happened. The vines started to wriggle and slowly retract, creating an opening just large enough for one person to pass through.

Elbert was astonished. He had seen Venus flytraps and pitcher plants move, but he never expected such enormous vines to be capable of movement, let alone obey human commands.

Robert explained, "These vines have mutated. They can sense the radiation from nearby living beings, just like the two-headed rats. Wendy has radiation on her, so the plants are reacting in a submissive manner."

Elbert nodded slightly, finding the place increasingly fascinating. Wendy stepped through the vines, holding the opening open for Elbert. "Please, come in!" she called.

Elbert nodded again, appreciating Wendy's thoughtfulness in ensuring he could pass through the vine gate. He stepped forward, and the giant vines, sensing a terrifying amount of radiation, immediately retracted their branches and leaves, creating a fifteen-foot-high opening that startled everyone.

Mike, the burly and peculiar man, widened his eyes in surprise, making a puzzled sound. Wendy was also taken aback but quickly bowed to Elbert. "The village chief was right; you are no ordinary person!"

Elbert hadn't expected this reaction either. He chuckled awkwardly and slowly walked in. Mike followed closely behind, but as he stepped through the vines, they sensed no radiation source and suddenly began to close. In the process, they trapped Quentin, who was genetically modified and had no radiation, leaving his body inside but his head stuck outside.

"Don't close the door!" Quentin shouted, kicking his legs as he was stuck in the vine wall.

"Oh, sorry!" Wendy rushed over to free Quentin. Elbert sighed and rubbed his forehead. The group continued forward, passing through a tall grass field until the scene before them opened up.

In the flickering firelight, a village came into view, with dozens of wooden houses topped with thatched roofs. People stood along the village paths, seemingly there to welcome them.

Elbert was increasingly puzzled. As they approached, he was struck by the sight of the villagers. None of them looked normal. Some had legs like elephant trunks, with feet too large to fit into shoes. Others had one eye as large as a cow's, while the other was completely shut. Some had withered limbs, and others had enormous tumors on their heads. Despite their grotesque appearances, they stood quietly, looking at Elbert with hopeful eyes.

"Hey, everyone!" Quentin greeted them cheerfully, still under the influence of his hallucinations. He saw the villagers as kind and welcoming, regardless of their appearances, and was genuinely happy.

Elbert felt a mix of emotions. These were the consequences of nuclear radiation. They should have been normal children and simple villagers. The advancement of human technology and nuclear power—was it right or wrong?

Suddenly, a relatively normal-looking villager approached, holding a basket. He smiled at Elbert. "These are for you. The village chief said that your arrival means our hardships will soon end."

Elbert was taken aback. He looked down at the basket, which contained blue wild fruits. However, the fruits were grotesquely deformed, fused together in a monstrous cluster. He then noticed the villager's hands, which had multiple deformed fingers growing from each normal finger.

Despite the villager's sincere smile, Elbert felt a shiver down his spine. He accepted the basket and nodded slightly. "You must help us. Thank you!" the villager said, "Please end our current way of life soon. You are our savior."

As they walked through the village, more villagers approached, adding various strange foods to Elbert's basket. Elbert smiled in response, while Quentin drooled at the sight of the food. However, Elbert didn't let him eat any of it, unsure of what the fruits actually were.

In just a short distance of about three hundred feet, nearly a hundred villagers came out to greet them, each one looking like a monster. The flickering torches created a nightmarish atmosphere that would terrify any ordinary person. But Elbert was no ordinary person. He maintained a polite smile, controlling his emotions.

The villagers were moved. These two were indeed different from outsiders; they didn't mind their appearances at all. "Look at that guy in the black clothes," one villager said. "He's so happy, always smiling. He's grateful for our welcome!"

The villagers were even more touched by Quentin's enthusiastic gestures. The group reached the largest thatched house in the village. Inside, a high wooden platform was draped with grass curtains. Wendy and Mike entered and immediately knelt before the platform. "Greetings, Prophet!"

Wendy then turned to Elbert. "This is our village chief."

"Welcome, young people from the outside," a commanding voice echoed from behind the grass curtain, resonating with the surrounding air.

Elbert felt a sense of reverence. The next moment, a cane emerged from behind the curtain, lifting it to reveal the village chief. He was an elderly man with an enormous head, likely over three feet in circumference, shaped like an oval with a forehead occupying 70% of the area. He was completely bald, and his body below the chest had withered into a lump of flesh.

Robert whispered, "He can't move, but his brain capacity is astonishing!"

Elbert's eyebrows twitched. Even though he had prepared himself, the sight still startled him. "I can see the future," the village chief began, his voice still strong and authoritative. "Young man, you can end our suffering. I can also sense that you wish to reach the stone coffin, but..."

The chief's voice suddenly stopped. He felt an itch on his head and turned to see Quentin, the young man in the black tracksuit, had somehow climbed onto the platform. Quentin was touching the chief's bald head, drooling. "What a big egg," he muttered.
