Chapter 39 A Dramatic Scene
The underground casino atmosphere was tense and silent. Everyone was waiting for a dramatic scene to unfold. Mary and Susan were pacing anxiously. Bryan's face was twisted with rage. And at the center of it all, the young man in the white shirt seemed to be asleep.
Suddenly, the sound of chaotic footsteps echoed through the hall. From a distance, the guards outside the door shouted in unison, "Mr. Patterson."
The casino manager had already bowed in greeting to the second-in-command of the Black Fox gang, Mr. Patterson.
Otis, dressed in a suit with a half-smoked cigar in his mouth, followed by 20 henchmen wielding clubs, entered the casino hall with an imposing presence. Everyone gasped. This was the demeanor of a true boss.
"Manager, where's my nephew?" Otis scanned the scene arrogantly and asked.
"Uncle. You're finally here." Bryan ran happily to Otis, instantly putting on a pitiful face. "I was bullied so badly. The guy who bullied me and scammed my money is over there."
"Everyone, move aside." Otis angrily stubbed out his cigar and shouted, "I want to see who dares to mess with my..."
The latter half of the sentence was forcibly swallowed by Otis. At that moment, Otis made a strange sound, like he had a feather stuck in his throat. When everyone made their way, Otis clearly saw the young man in the white shirt leaning back in his chair with his eyes closed.
"Mr. Paul."
Otis stood there as if struck by lightning, unable to move.
"Uncle, don't just stand there; beat him." Bryan was jumping around, acting all high and mighty.
But at this moment, Otis's mind was buzzing. His ears started ringing. Bryan's earnest shouts were completely inaudible to him. Even the 20 fierce henchmen behind him began to tremble. They quickly realized this man was the guy who had just beaten them up.
'He wasn't human; he was a demon.' they thought with fear expressions.
"Uncle, go get him. Don't worry; I'll take all the consequences," Bryan shouted while grabbing a machete from one of the thugs, ready to charge.
"Get lost. I'm not your uncle." Otis swung his arm and knocked Bryan to the ground. "Guys, get him, beat Bryan to a pulp." With Otis's angry shout, the 20 henchmen behind him sprang into action. They charged at Bryan, wishing they could kill him on the spot. It seemed like only by doing so could they save their own lives.
"Uncle, what's wrong with you? I'm Bryan. Ouch..."
"I don't know you." The next five minutes were brutal. Twenty men pummeling Bryan. In the distance, Mary was very puzzled. Why were they fighting among themselves? The audience was also confused. Only the casino manager's expression shifted, and he seemed to understand something.
Ten minutes later, Otis dragged the swollen and dazed Bryan to Elbert. But he only dared to stand silently, not daring to speak.
Elbert slowly stretched and opened his eyes slightly, "Finished?"
"Yes, sir, it's done."
"Then I'll be on my way. I have to drive someone later." Elbert slowly got up.
"Drive?" Otis's mouth twitched slightly, but he didn't dare to ask more. He respectfully said, "Sir, the money this kid lost to you, I'll take it back to Luminous Nights Club. You can come and get it anytime."
"Got it." Elbert put a cigarette in his mouth, and Otis immediately stepped forward to light it. "After a nap, I feel much better. Girls, shall we go?" Elbert stretched his muscles and calmly started walking.
"Okay." Mary and Susan responded obediently, following closely behind.
No one noticed that Otis's back was already soaked with sweat. It was like he had taken a trip through hell. This was the second time today.
Everyone in the casino was puzzled. What just happened? They only heard Otis trembling, saying to the unconscious Bryan, "Of all people, why did you mess with him? He is now the underground boss of all of the Wavehaven, Paul White."
The crowd was in an uproar. From this moment on, the name Paul White was deeply imprinted in everyone's mind. It wouldn't be long before the name Paul White would spread through all the underground circles of Wavehaven and even the entire Veridiania.
By the roadside, Iron Six had been waiting by the car for a long time. Elbert had notified him to come and take the two girls back. Mary and Susan stood behind Elbert, feeling awkward. After thinking for a long time, they didn't know how to start.
"Elbert, thank you for helping us out."
Elbert smirked, "There's no need to thank me. I did it because I have my own principles. The reason I stayed here is that I didn't want to see the Brown Family fall apart."
"You..." Mary was a bit upset again but held back, thinking of Elbert's actions earlier.
"So, Elbert, you're not poor? How much money do you have?" Susan couldn't help but ask.
Elbert considered this question for a moment, then quickly thought of how Robert helped him make money on the stock market.
Robert Williams had stopped trading in the futures market and moved to the stock market, as anyone familiar with the stock market would know. Recently, a mysterious retail investor with massive trades and accurate predictions was making a killing. According to outside estimates, this person was handling funds in the billion-dollar range, and this person was none other than Elbert.
"My money is still a bit short compared to the Brown Family. To buy the entire FutureTech Group, it might take another two or three months."
Looking at the serious Elbert, Mary was speechless again.
"What was with those gangsters earlier?" Susan asked.
Elbert grinned. "Just a friend I had some misunderstandings with before."
'Forget it.' The two girls were exhausted and didn't want to argue with Elbert anymore.
"Elbert, we're sorry." Finally, after two minutes, the two girls said what had been on their minds. "We know now that you're not a bad person. You didn't take our father's money. You're not a man who relies on women. We misunderstood you."
Mary and Susan lowered their heads, their eyes a bit red.
"We hid your $500,000 and tried to frame you, wanting our father to kick you out."
Elbert frowned upon hearing this. "You hid my $500,000? Is that true?"
"We didn't mean to. We were too scared, afraid someone would hurt us again. Don't worry. We'll go home tonight and confess everything to our sister."
The two girls shrank back in fear.
Elbert couldn't help but laugh. "I don't care about such things. How the Brown Family sees me doesn't matter; I just do the right things."
Elbert's phone rang, and it was Lori calling.
"Elbert, where are you? It's almost the end of the day. Aren't you coming back to the office?"
Elbert didn't know how to respond for a moment.
"I've been away from my post for too long. Let's go." Elbert turned to leave, waving to the two girls as he walked away.
Watching Elbert's departing figure, Mary sighed, "Elbert is actually not bad. He just likes to brag too much. One moment, he wants to buy the FutureTech Group, the next, he's friends with the mob boss."
On the side, Iron Six's mouth couldn't help but twitch.
'Mr. Elbert is much more than that. Have you ever heard of the internationally renowned ApexGuardians special forces team?' he thought.
