Chapter 89 Rex's Transformation
"Elbert, you..." Jeffery glanced at his watch in disbelief. "It's only been 10 minutes! How did you get here, Elbert? Isn’t it several miles away?"
Elbert smiled faintly. "I was worried you all might get anxious, so I picked up the pace a bit."
"You’re kidding!" Jeffery shook his head. "What do you mean by picking up the pace? Several miles in 5 minutes? And in the city? Even if you drove or rode a motorcycle, there's no way you could have made it!"
Jeffery waved his hand dismissively and said, c"You must have been nearby!"
"Jeffery, step aside!" Mr. Brown interjected. "It doesn’t matter where Elbert came from!"
He walked up to Elbert, his face lined with concern. "Elbert, tell me, how did you find the 4th basement level? How did you open those doors?"
Mr. Brown was in a state of utter panic.
He was proud of his $200 million security system, which was designed to be impenetrable, yet Elbert had strolled in as if it were nothing.
Elbert scratched his head, smiling. "It just so happens that I know a bit about computers. To avoid trouble, I casually cracked the security system."
Mr. Brown’s face turned cold.
"Alan, rest assured, your security system is still very advanced," Elbert added with a grin.
'Advanced? It looked to me like you didn’t even make any effort to trespass on my security system!' Alan thought to himself, his mouth twitching in frustration.
"Don't worry. I added a few firewalls to your security system earlier. This time, no one should be able to break it," Elbert continued, still smiling.
Mr. Brown was once again stunned, sneaking a guilty glance at Jeffery. "Since he is here, shall we proceed with the next part of our plan?" he asked.
Elbert turned his attention to the center of the area. "You all asked me to come here to defeat Rex, right?" he said casually, walking slowly toward the center.
Leonard clapped his hands and exclaimed. "See, I told you this guy knows everything. He is so good! Hacking? Fighting? What else he can’t do?"
"Leonard, stop!" Mr. Brown looked embarrassed.
He was still troubled by Elbert's casual cracking of his advanced security system in the secret lab.
'If he could do that, then what about my company's top secret? In Elbert’s eyes, it must be all laid bare! Elbert is terrifyingly strong! I must maintain a good relationship with him!' thought Alan.
"You want to defeat me? Dream on!" Rex laughed arrogantly, his gaze suddenly turning cold. "Father, esteemed elders, I have a proposal!"
Rex waved his hand. "I have just been enhanced by the drug, and I may not be able to control my strength well. In a match with Elbert, accidental injuries are inevitable. So, I propose we sign a liability waiver for any injuries or deaths!"
Mr. Brown frowned. "Rex, you must control yourself. No one is allowed to get hurt! As for the contract, it’s not necessary!"
"I agree; it must be signed," Elbert chuckled. "Just as Rex said, accidents can happen."
"Good lad, I like your spirit. Let's sign it!" Jeffery laughed heartily.
Under Mr. Brown’s stern gaze, the two signed the liability waiver. The moment the ink dried, Rex laughed again. "Father, Jeffery! I have another piece of good news to share!"
Mr. Brown’s face tightened, feeling something was wrong.
"Our Phase II drug has had an unexpected effect on me!" Rex announced. "In our experiments over the years, there has been one data point that has been overlooked. It was overlooked because it is extremely rare! Only one in a million!"
"That is the mutation of the test subject!" Dr. Isaac, who had been silent on the side, stepped forward with a proud expression. "Theoretically, our Phase II drug can enhance human strength by 300%. But if the test subject and the drug reach a highly subtle and perfectly matched state, the results of the experiment will be earth-shattering!"
He then added, "Fortunately, under my precise control, Mr. Ingram has undergone such a change! Now, Mr. Ingram’s physical stats are beyond imagination!"
Jeffery’s eyes instantly focused on Rex. "What level are we talking about?"
Rex suddenly flexed his arm.
His bones cracked! From a distance, it seemed his body even grew a bit taller!
Rex grinned. "These numbers are probably immeasurable! But I can feel it clearly. I am very strong now! Extremely strong! Far stronger than the data on the experiment sheet!"
Dr. Isaac said proudly, "According to the report, Mr. Ingram’s strength has been enhanced by about 500%! But in reality, based on my experience, Mr. Ingram’s stats are likely around 600%! Body strength reaching 400%, a single punch force of at least 1000 pounds! Almost three times that of the strongest human warriors! In both the realm of ordinary humans and modified humans, Rex is the strongest, bar none!"
'1000 pounds?' Jeffery broke into a cold sweat.
In his mind, a world-class boxing champion’s punch is 300 pounds; his ApexGuardians, as the ultimate human army, can reach about 400 pounds in a single punch, but 1000 pounds was way beyond his common sense.
Thinking of his warriors, each of them had gone through unimaginable hellish training to get where they were! They had achieved their current status through ten or twenty years of relentless hard work! And Rex, who seemed a bit spoiled in Jeffery’s eyes, achieved an unattainable height instantly with a small dose of the drug!
Jeffery momentarily doubted himself. He had longed for the experiment’s success, but now that it had succeeded, he felt a tinge of sadness.
'The power of technology is overwhelming and terrifying!' he exclaimed inwardly.
When Jeffery looked at Elbert again, a hint of sorrow flashed in his eyes.
In Jeffery’s eyes, Elbert could at least rival the ApexGuardians warriors!
'But what’s the use? In facing unimaginable technology and against a modified human like Rex, everything would be futile!' thought him.
